  • Multiple systems could deliver 3 to 4 inches of rain to the Triangle by this time next week, including a Saturday soaking that could bring snow to the North Carolina mountains and freezing rain to parts of our area. As a result, Saturday is a WRAL Weather Alert Day.
We'll have to deal with some bitterly cold mornings before weekend rain arrives. It will be frosty at the bus stop Friday morning, with lows in the mid 20s for earlier risers. White flag shelters will be open overnight for people seeking shelter from the winter chill. Highs will reach 50 degrees on Thursday, one of the mildest days of the week. Friday will be colder but clear, with a high in the 40s, before a soaking rain arrives for Saturday. After a dry, chilly Friday, conditions will be very wet for Saturday.
An all-day rain has prompted WRAL meteorologists to call Saturday a WRAL Weather Alert Day. Areas north of Durham might see brief freezing rain Saturday morning, but not enough to cause power outages. No wintry weather is forecast for the Triangle -- just rain.
