  • Britain woke up to major flooding in the Midlands region, aerial footage showed on Friday (January 5) as the country was battered by heavy rain overnight.
Nottinghamshire County declared a major incident on Thursday (January 4) due to the rising water levels along the river Trent following Storm Henk, which passed through on Tuesday (January 3). Some residential areas had to be evacuated, the Environment Agency said.
Caroline Douglass, the Environment Agency’s flood director, was quoted by the British newspaper The Guardian as saying the river Trent was at “some of the highest levels we’ve seen in 24 years”.
The Environment Agency said flooding was possible across parts of the Midlands and South and East of England on Friday and "ongoing flooding from rivers is also probable along parts of the River Severn and River Trent for the next five days."

    Real truths missed:
Building on ancient flood lands has helped create this.
And councils, not clearing/cleaning their drains like they used too (to save money).
I wonder, if these two things are ever mentioned in the news media?

Not exactly a new road though is it? Probably 70’s, there isn’t money to clear drains

They also stopped dredging the rivers! My local council is allowing new houses to be built on land that partly floods each year. I wouldnt like to be in the houses next to these new builds, as covering the land with houses and roads means MORE surface water. Sometimes I think people in charge of our tax money are just useless - to be polite!

And unprecedented levels of population growth, ie immigration, and us being told in every programme mainstream media produces that more building is desperately needed!!!

Drains left uncleared by every council.....so there is no where for rainwater to run

I cant see any "devastating flooding"! Just a few flooded fields and an underpass. Most of the rain yesterday fell down south

Only because we design our towns and roads with backwards thinking ,Mother Nature will always be changing and it’s been getting wetter and wetter for 40 years now , roads need run offs and storm drains, and towns need reservoirs it will fix many problems

Yes, climate change is making both events more likely. A warmer atmosphere can hold more water vapour, so the time it takes the air to saturate between rainfall events increases. However, when the air does saturate, it has considerably more water in it, so rainfall amount is greater. This means that a warming atmosphere from greenhouse gas emissions results in BOTH increased flooding (through intense rainfall events), and droughts. It’s only going to get worse 😢

When are the authorities going to realise water management is a priority. It is only going to become worse. Wake up, get advice from the water masters, the Dutch, and do what needs to be done. Keep all drainages open, clear, and clean, for starters.

Perhaps you should ask why the English Fire Brigades does not have Statutory obligations to attend flooding... As such they don't receive FUNDING for equipment, training etc, nor do they need to attend anyone stuck in cars or houses... @DailyMailUK why aren't you asking Govt why they aren't providing this cover for Fire Brigades or UK people?
