funnily enough, I disagree. I think elemental mage has been good off and on for years, its just that the rest of the game is so hostile that it makes alot of "good" decks just "bad". too many power imbalances and power outliers in the collection, man...
@@DavidSmith-cr7mbI disagree, if a deck only sees play a bit after darkmoon faire because of grand finale and never comes back again then it isn’t good. The deck was playable in a single expansion years ago.
@@nicholaswardroup8434 I mean printing two cards and pyros isn’t necessarily pushing the archetype, rather giving it cards, they never really focused on it too much or printed good cards for it until elemental allies and that one 0 mana spell.
I don’t tend to be an aggro player, but I am of the opinion that a surplus of efficient draw is healthy for the wild format (where it is limited to aggro decks). The most important reason for this is that it forces decks to be proactive. A control deck can’t just sit back and play removal, they need to take the board to actually secure agency against the deck. It resists the tendency of the format to be less about pressure, something that combo and the style of aggro that pirates represents encourages in its fragility.
so about overflow surger. i think its really good. while there have been times where it griefed my elemental chains, i think that the board pressure it applies is worth it, mainly because removal and aoes are very uncommon in wild. i started the list running saruun at first, but found they were too often a really heavy brick and that relying on draw order to pull of a shitty garotte impression, which wasnt worth it. while surger was originally included because of its synergy with saruun, i was so impressed with its preformance, especially against priests, that i decided to keep it for the final build. hope everyone enjoys it before it gets caught in the standard nerf crossfire
This expansion is another one that feels like a wild expansion. Standart didn't change one bit, it still has the same decks as ever and Starships are played merely for fun. Verily, Wild has gotten alot more playable, HW, Libram, Elementals, even Draeneis have seen some play, and it's kinda weird because Wild is meant to be the powerhouse mode, yet none of the cards that improved Wild see play in Standart and that definetly says something abouy what's going on.
I agree overflow surger is generally mediocre, but against decks that only have a few board clears, dropping a surger immediately after having your board cleared feels pretty good. Of course building boards is what the deck is already really good at, but surger costs only one card, so, that's something.
Honestly its been a pain in the ass for me, not even with a control deck i can beat them. All it takes is having 2 lamplighters in hand to do 26 from hand.
"Who ever could have guessed that playing a card every turn is really fun?" Dude I get it, I feel like you're just discovering what I loved about Elemental Shaman years ago and why this deck has caught my eye, because it reminds me of it. I was always surprised it didn't take off more like Elemental Mage has. Maybe it just wasn't as obvious, and I feel like it didn't REALLY hit its stride until Grumble, World Shaker came out, and the 2 mana spells that drew and copied a card or buffed an elemental & added a copy to your hand, but once they did it would just snowball completely out of control. Like you said, you never felt like you were trudging along playing cards over 5 mana (even though you were) because the tempo and value you got from your big cards (Servant of Kalimos, Fire Elemental, Kalimos, Grumble), was so high it felt like playing multiple cards in one. Servant was insane, often getting you more Kalimos and Grumbles; and being able to play your Fire Elementals and Kalimos again for 1 mana was just ridiculous. It probably would struggle in today's climate but for its time it felt very competent. You could always come back on the board and you never really ran out of cards.
I saw your post with this list when I was at Diamond 8 and got to legend 8 hours ago. I play only on mobile so no decktracker, but I think the score was 25-5 (My multiplier in diamond was just x1). Thanks a lot, I really like this zoo style tribal decks (My first ever legend was in March 2018 with murloc paladin)
"It's almost like playing tempo is cool, maybe that's just me maybe I'm the weirdo" You've like perfectly summed up how I feel whenever I see a post complaining about aggro. Like damn I'm sorry I like playing cards at the start of the game, and not at the end of the game.
way that i see it, aggro is always about just playing the most on curve, while combo decks sometimes have to play on curve and fight for board or sometimes set-up combo. But I don't think aggro is a bad archetype to have in card games, I just don't enjoy playing it.
I've been most excited for elemental mage throughout card reveal and it didn't disappoint. Got to legend in standard in first two days using both Saruun and Mes'Adune for otk backup combos and it was hella fun. Its been unplayable pretty much only against infinite armor warriors and starship hunters/deathknights because of damned Yelling Yodeler.
Woah. 1680 dust. That’s only slightly higher than a legendary. F2P players rejoice. Edit: Yeah, not a single legendary. I don’t even think there’s a single epic. Also the editing is fine. Pokemon B/W OST goes hard.
Tbh combo decks are very rewarding and i understand why people like it. Ending the life of an opponent with an otk feels so good. Control decks in other hand....i consider it the most boring cause your main goal is not letting the oponent playing the game, board clear, disruption board clear, disruption and the mirror match of control are fucking long.
I think the 5 cost that replicates should summon a base copy, not an actual copy, it wouldn’t kill the deck, making it a strong tempo deck instead of an otk that’s low roll is a tempo deck (in standard it might be a little too good)
btw when you play a new deck bro, they frontload your bad matchups, idk why, but you WILL have a tough matchup first-game everytime. sometimes its just game after game of unwinnables. I PERSONALLY believe its rigging to predict and control player behaviors but Im just a snow schizo fro minneso
Wild not really lamp lighter hurts but the deck still just builds a full board on turn 3 then another with increased stats then another again and again with one of the best removal spells in the entire game
I enjoy this kind of videos. Also, I really like Elemental decks in general, and Elemental Mage in particular. I've been trying to make the deck work in standard during Titans and Showdown, and it's been the sole reason I haven't quit during that time. I really hate Overflow Surger, though. The card feels underwhelming, polarizing, and worst of all, BORING. Its braindead synergy with Saruun in standard isn't fun, it feels forced and unnecessarily pushing Saruun to be an OTK card instead of just providing extra burn damage. If it weren't for Overflow Surger, Saruun could have been 5 mana, (maybe even 4, but that's a stretch). Either way, that would have been infinitely more fun than anything Overflow Surger has to offer.
Power creep and keywords are nuts in Hearthstone, I honestly don't even know wtf is going on anymore. Played a few games of standard ranked and had a combination of getting wrecked by ele mage and not knowing what starships are so went back to battlegrounds LOL. I miss the old days of Hearthstone.
I really like elemental mage but at the same time like i just got back into the game a couple months ago and elemental mage is what i ended up on in standard and is more or less what i ended up on. I might just stick to battlegrounds for a while.
I haven't played a single match this expansion. Does elemental mage feel like a strong deck, or a total BS deck? It sounds fun but I don't want to play BS
Doesn't seem that strong in my opinion. The games are in lower ranks which makes the deck seem better than it is Edit: ok nvm, i tried it at diamond 5 and it's definitely strong, probably the best aggro deck like Flare said.
