    Brilliant!
    I was sixteen and in work when this was aired, couldn't tape it and never really heard it again, life got in the way.
    Many thanks for the trip down Nostalgia Avenue.

      I let my tapes from the radio go as an adolescent, so when I saw they'd released them on tape I bought them to hear them again.

    OH man, thanks for the upload! My dad bought me these as a kid, on cassette no less! lol was obsessed with the movies and these were equally incredible. Excellent voice acting, production, and the world feels very lived in, as they say. Great to grow up on. Time to get stoned and dive into the nostalgia pool! :)

    I was 13 and in junior high school when this weekly radio series came out in 1981. What an excellent radio show! Mark Hamill does an excellent job here along with the other actors. Disney will never be able to make anything that comes close to this.

      Sadly, they took this out of canon and made this part of Legends, likely because of their alternate version of capturing the plans in _Rogue One._

    These were before I was born. I have never heard any of them till now and wow!! Amazing! And Brock Peters makes an awesome Darth Vader! I only knew him from his movie and tv appearances on star trek. He's a really versatile actor!! Bravo Mr. Peters!!!! RIP too.

    I loved this when I was 13, then I loved it even more when NPR ran it again when I was 14. I was irritated when my audio cassettes that I recorded this on ran out and I had to flip them over or switch them out and I missed 20 seconds seconds of the broadcast each time. I was using Scotch or Maxell cassettes, if I recall. Wow.. 40 years have gone by quickly.

    • @sandal_thong
      @sandal_thong ปีที่แล้ว

      I had them on tape too as a recording, but they were long enough to capture an episode for each tape. To replace them I bought the official ones on tape. It was upsetting that they had an even number and split one of them on two sides.

    Thanks for uploading this version, I like Nigel's edit but wanted to hear the opening and closing end cards that he removed in editing. Wish they did more Star Wars movies like this, like even an extended version of the Sequel trilogy could be cool.

      I saw Empire Strikes Back first, then saw Star Wars re-release in the theater. But having tapes of this let me listen to it repeatedly before VHS rentals. It was gratifying to see deleted scenes of Biggs many years later. I didn't like Threepio, probably because I learned from this he betrayed Artoo.

      @@maverick744 I think Threepio did redeem himself by expressing remorse when he thought they were dying in the trash compactor. But his heroic actions were few and far between.

      @@sandal_thong I agree but also forgot getting his top blasted off in New Hope during Deathstar battle..”I’ll gladly donate any of my circuits” one of most iconic lines.. as well when they when captured by the Jawas.. I have a feeling Empire was your fav? Lord knows it was mine. My front yard was “Hoth” durning the coldest of winters.. literally had my whole collection involved. This is exactly why I make the argument that my era made better movies.. hero’s never died and endings were always happy and not full of despair…the disappointment I had after waiting 30 years all to find out the Republic went bankrupt, Han and Leah divorced, the Falcon lost, Han broke and smuggling again then being Ben Kenobed by his son.. another yet depressing non inspiring disaster created by Hollywood which didn’t follow Jedi’s story.. they should of called it “No Hope”..I have my 3 master pieces and will just stick to them..

    Thanks so much for uploading this. First heard it when I was 13. Just loved it. So much more than the movies. I never turned into one of those Star Wars fanatics. But this production provided so much more backstory and I thoroughly appreciated it. Great stuff! One thing, though. I don't think it made much sense for Leah to take the tantavy (sp?) instead of her father. As Vader already surmised, he already knew that Leah was turning up in all sorts of places where there was rebel activity. No doubt, leah's cover would have been blown rather quickly.

    • @sandal_thong
      @sandal_thong 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Perhaps she thought it would protect her father and Alderaan, but you know what happened. I learned many years later they made an Empire Strikes Back radio show, but it didn't have Lando's meeting with Vader, the only extra scene I would like to see, and one they still didn't put in Solo, I'm told.

      the radio drama follows George Lucas' original script for the film, with some added context / scenes to fill the runtime. there is a written version of the radio drama's script that I own which you can find online. as for a novelization of A New Hope, the ones that I have found online do not include much of the earlier scenes from the radio drama. hope that helped!
