All I can say is THANK You! Not yelling just SO doggone happy to FINALLY get a simple easy to follow vid. I've been playing around with pc to make unique earrings, but haven't found anything as easy as this to follow. The artist is exceptionally easy to follow. Thank you thank you thank you.
I love this!! I was wondering something. A while back I discovered a new way to to do stop-animation using a polymer clay, by slicing it into thin sections, then taking a picture of each slice.. what happened was I got actual fluid-like motion on film!! I only did this once and I plan on doing it again..
@lpsfriends The point of refrigerating your cane (not freezing) is to make it just a little bit more firm while working with it. Certain techniques require the polymer clay to be very soft while other techniques are easier if the clay is just a little bit more firm. You would place the cane in the refridgerator just long enough for it to reach the consistency that works for you. Since every refrigerator is a different temperature there is no set time for this.
Thank you for the tutorial as well as the link to purchase the machine. I have been searching for weeks for a nice one that works well at a nice price with no luck. This machine has a very nice price, not expensive at all and I can't wait to receive it, as I am a beginner at polymer clay and want to begin asap!! =)
I just wanted to say that I enjoyed your simple caning techniques, you seem to make them very easy to follow (sorry to say) unlike some that I have come across I shall follow you and look forward to more awesome tips thanx
thank you for the video I have been looking for something like this, I always wondered how the complicated ones are made and you made it so easy to understand how they are made.
Jessica H - The long blades that are used in the demonstration are available in the Super Slicer tool set, found here: www.dickblick.com/products/sculpey-clay-tools/. The demonstrator is using the blades without the handle that is included in the kit. If you would like additional assistance, please feel welcome to contact our Product Information team at 1-800-933-2542
mightyaphroditie The quantity really depends on how much cane you want to make, but to help you get a little better understanding, the “core” tube she starts with is 2/3 to a full 2oz block of clay. The rolled out portion is a smaller quantity, closer to a quarter or less of the initial block. For any additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com.
A long time ago, I got this book on how to make designs with Sculpey clay. I liked the marbleized ones the most. I even made sushi beads at one time, too
I use sculpey and sculpey iii. And you don't need a special oven, but many polymer clay artists who are baking things every day will use a sepate one from the one they cook food in :) hope it helps haha
@TheBigguy500 Many of the Sculpey products bake at 275°F (130°C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) of thickness. You can find all the Sculpey products and read the details for each at: dickblick . com / brands / sculpey / or contact our Product Information team who can help with any questions at: info @ dickblick . com.
Thank you for the video, it's a great for those of us who are rookies. I am interested in the pendant you showed us and would like to know how the gold veining was done. It's beautiful.
NG B The veining is achieved by rolling out a sheet of the gold clay and then adding it to the lace cane. You can also add Pearl-Ex Pigment to a layer or dusted on the edge of the cane to create a similar look (available on our website at dickblick.com). If you have more questions, feel free to contact our Product Information Department at 800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com .
@xXAnimeBriXx I am not certain of the exact brand of pasta machine used here but it looks very similar to the Amaco Pasta Machine that we carry on our Blick website. You can see it by going to dickblick . com/ products / amaco-pasta- machine /.
Hello, lovely instructions and very clear, however, I was wondering how much of the clay block have you used for any of these projects? No one ever talks about how much of the block of the clay to use, they just jump to "here I have a rolled out piece already"!! thank you for your reply in advance.
I know this is old, but for future readers, just use how much you think you'll want for your beads. Sculpey doesn't shrink, so estimate the amount by how many (and what size) beads you want. Too much is better than too little. You can always use some excess, but if you have too little you'll have to make another cane (with waaay more excess).
@Oscar307975 That is a good question! The name sounds funny, I know, but Dick Blick is actually the name of the person who founded the company back in 1911. He started by selling a few items through a catalog and shipping from his home. Over the past 100 years the company has developed into the premier supplier of art materials in the U.S. All the materials you see in our videos (we have over 60,000 items in our assortment) are all available on our website at dick blick. com.
After your done making it how long do you keep it in the freezer and after u have taken it out and used it and have some left do u keep in the the freezer/fridge for until u need it or just keep it somewhere and freeze it when u need it?
@PeaceLoveDuctTape100 All the tools and products in this video are from Blick Art Materials. The cutting tool used here is called a Super Slicer. Please go to the Blick website and enter item number 34208-1002 for more information or to purchase.
i noticed the glitter lines in the animal print pendant. How did you add that. Also, did you place the cut cane over a dome or is it a solid cane pendant? How did you attach the pendant since you didnt use the hole on the pendant. Did you use a bail and cover it with the antique color bead. Im a perfectionist, can you tell?
Before baking , is the clay texture strong enough if i make a round ball and leave it on a table , would a flat surface begin to mold at the bottom when using sculpey?
@peace2570 For an extra lustrous finish, there is a product called Sculpey Glaze that we sell at Blick. You can find it on our website dickblick . com / products / sculpey-glaze.
I noticed with the leaf cane That it has the shape of a strawberry slice. If you changed the color and pattern slightly it would work for making cake or dessert charms too
What I was wondering is this.. could I use a deli-slicer (dedicated to polymer clay of course) to cut this clay in to SUPER thin slices?? Has that been tried? I already envision COUNTLESS possibilities doing this. But I'm not sure if the cuts would be clean enough.. and deli-slicers are pretty expensive.. =(
You can cut the slices once they are baked and use them for nail art.(If you google "nail cane slices" there will be pictures of what you can d with them. It is a waste of clay for those who don't sell the canes or use them for nail art but the are very useful. :)
i am a beginner and i would like to make earrings and key chains by using clay but i don't know which one to use. can u tell me which sculpey clay product is best for the beginner? thanks :)
Hello, there! Thank you so much for your tutorial. I have a quick question on baking the clay in a home oven. Is it ok? I've seen other videos where some are questioning the safety of it. Kindly advise. Thank you.
Jewelz Weston When used as directed, polymer clays do not give off toxic chemicals in the curing process, and can be safely baked in a home oven. You may wish to purchase an oven thermometer to use to ensure an accurate temperature for baking. For any additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!
Hello guys, i'm new here and i would like to ask you some questions.. They may seem stupid to you but as i said i'm new. So as i've seen in other videos whenyou mix 2 colours from the clay they become another , i mean you dont see them separetly but totally different colour is formed? Also for baking them do you need a sprecial oven? And would you recommend a clay brand . Thank you :)
@ Jody D There is a wide assortment of polymer clay tools available on our site dickblick.com If you have any questions about tools or polymer clay, feel free to contact our Product Information team at info@dickblick.com or call us at (800)933-2542.
The long blades that were used in the demonstration were in the Super Slicer tool set. The demonstrator is using the blades without the handle that is included in the kit, but you can get Sculpey blades in a set with handles that make them easier and safer to use: www.dickblick.com/products/sculpey-tools-clay-blades/
This is fantastic! Thank you for sharing! I have a question, how did you make the cane at the very beginning? 0:17 sec into the video. That one is very neat! I would like to try it. Please help! Thanks!
@iloveMusic4408 All you would have to do for that is take long strips of what ever colour you are using (in this case white and black) and lay them length ways down the "jelly roll"
AbbyLayneLife Yes, it is worth the money if you find that the Craftsmart is crumbly and difficult to work with. Sculpey III is going to be a soft, easy to use clay that is available in a whole range of colors. Sculpey Premo is slightly harder but still softer than Fimo. Both the Premo and Fimo would be considered professional level clays and are good for achieving finer detail. If you would like to discuss further options, please feel free to contact Product Information at 800-933-2542 or email us at info@dickblick.com.

This is so helpful. There are many vids on how to make complex things, but I'm still struggling with the basics, so thanks!
wow, i just discovered a completely new world ! cant wait to learn more about this wonderful art
Oh my goodness! How simple did you make that "leaf cane" look! Thank you - this is a great tutorial! I will be looking forward to watching more ~M x

@antijelly In the demo, the artist is using Sculpey III but you can use Premo or any other the other colored clays.
The artist is working on a Sculpey Clay Mat. These can be purchased on the Blick website by following the link in the video description. Thanks

OMG! they look almost like factary made!! you have such good techniques! I like really fail at making the canes.
I don't even know what this is or why it was in my suggested videos but I'm intrigued

this by far the most helpful video on making canes!
@SHUKZ13 Sculpey III and Premo Sculpey come in a wide range of colors and are great for caning and making charms.
You made that leaf cane so much easier than what I have been doing. Thanks again!
I find the polymer clay videos really interesting and informative, because I've been thinking about getting into using it myself. Thank you. c:
Love the tutorials. How and when do you make the holes in the beads.
This is the first video that I have watched by you and
I LOVE IT!!!
IKR it's so relaxing 🤗🤗🤗
@allypink99 You can use a hand roller - anything from a lucite roller to a rolling pin or dowel will work!
@shooaholic We are happy to hear this video was useful! Thanks!
thank you for the video I have been looking for something like this, I always wondered how the complicated ones are made and you made it so easy to understand how they are made.
Thank you for kind explanation. I want to try it. Also I think my children-3, 5 years old- can try with your explanation. Thanks.
How to buff the beads and what tools to use, where is the best place to buy them? Thanks a lot!
@lilmizzpRnB Yes - once your piece is created, follow the baking directions. This is harden the clay and make it durable and long lasting.
Thanks. Easy and pretty. The leaves are wonderful.

@cookies12312 slice the clay first before you bake it. Once it is baked it is very hard.
@lizzygomuroxz It is Sculpey III

ceebelle We carry the Amaco Pasta Machine. You can find it in the polymer clay tools section of our website: goo.gl/2uFthj
Do you cut it before or after you bake it?
Can you use other types of clay too?
how u make dough into thin sheets

@BlickVideos wher do you buy them?

Great job. Many thanks
can someone please tell me how hard polymer clay is once dry? is there any other methods to make it harder like baking?
could you use mod podge as a glace?
wow thanks for this awesome video, it has some awesome tips :)
This is really cute... I think I'm obsessed.
It looks so easy for u
After you bake your clay, you can quench it. You put it in ice cold water after you take it out the oven. It makes it extra hard.
How do you do the checkerboard?
I really need one of those roller things
where did u get the blade?
