As someone that learned to DJ using vinyl and the transitioned to CDs and now midi-controller I find that a lot of the fx and trick buttons are superfluous and unnecessary unless you are performing at a DJ competition. If you are playing out in a club in London or Ibiza, good track selection is what the crowd want/like/will remember most, especially if you playing (soulful/deep/afro/vocal/tribal) house music
All I want is something that can Scratch and do it WELL. I do not care about all that Techno / EDM crud. I just wanna scratch. And the best thing that helps scratching is Motorized Perpetual Momentum on the Platters. But most DJ Controller Manufacturers don't wanna put motors in their Jog Wheels.
Looks way better and more useful than the FLX6 with the pro gear CFX selector and channel assign. I also think Pioneer should have gone with those soft-magnets (like those for fridge) instead of a sticker for Serato layout.

Ah! The encircled part is the Groove Circuit. Honestly, at first, I had to ask what it was for or WHO it was for. Ugly truth is that it's still got the feel of a very mid-range controller, despite the price. Moonswatch vs Moonwatch debacle essentially. Which of the 2 controllers do you think you could recommend for me to try.
Will the DDJ-GRV6 be a good choice as home equipment, thanks to which I will feel comfortable playing in a club? I mean a full-size jog, hot cue like in the CDJ 3000, an effector like in the DJM A9 and creating a playlist in rekordbox and putting it on a pendrive to connect in the club. Assuming that this is the maximum budget I have, will this be the best option? The only thing I am afraid of is the comfort of playing with such short pitch faders (I have been playing on turntables for 20 years). I am less interested in these groove gadgets. Is it worth paying extra and buying this equipment instead of the FLX6? Apparently the difference in quality is big. Can you survive playing with such short pitch faders? Best regards.
Oh, believe me, this is totally worth the price jump from the FLX6. It feels far more premium and solid. And if you ask me, the short pitch faders aren't too relevant, especially if you've already been playing on turntables. I found myself just getting used to both haha

@7:06 i really wish you reviewers would explain balanced signals better. If the end users understood why it’s so resilient to interference they would use it more often.
Quick rundown if you don’t know, there are three conductors; the first one carries the signal, the second one carries an inversion of the signal, and the third is the ground. Once the signal reaches the destination, the second signal is reinverted and summed to the first signal. This makes the signal twice as loud but also, any interference that occurs down the line is canceled out by its inversion. If you’ve ever attempted to make an a cappella before stems existed, there’s a technique called the knockout technique that you might be familiar with. This is the same process of equal and opposite waves destroying each other. Anyway, this technology has been used by the telephone industry which explains how they can carry signals for miles down thin wires with very little noise added to the line and this is also why you want to use a balance signal for cable runs above 20 feet.
Thanks for explaining the technical aspect of it! TBH, it all boils down to pacing, and many videos explain the differences between balanced and unbalanced signals already on TH-cam, so I don't feel like its necessary to include in every review. The concept itself deserves its own video
@@djcarlo actually I was watching a Mojax video on the same controller and he started explaining how balanced uses three conductors but that was it. Whats your favorite controller so far? I really enjoy my FLX 10. I really wish the STEMS on rekordbox would improve though. I personally wouldn't really recommend a controller that doesn't have XLR for gigs unless you have your own setup. Then again i'm sure most audio engineers would have TRS to XLR connectors laying around. But they might not be around when you need them.
The DDJ 1000 is probably still my GOAT, but the FLX10 does an amazing job going toe to toe with it. As for the outputs, these ones are way easier to work with than RCAs with the sound system guys haha
@djcarlo, I'm very disappointed, I would have preferred that alphateta comes out like on the DDJ-FLX10, stems technology isn't like the DDJ-FLX10, I'm just waiting for that to change my DDJ-FLX6 controller, I think I'll wait! I use rekordbox!
HELLO DEAR DJ CARLO ❤❤❤, Q) NO. 1 IS GRV-6 COMES WITH REKORDBOX "SUBSCRIBTION PLAN" OR ITS INCLUDED PAID VERSION ??? Q) NO. 2 IS GRV-6 GOOD FOR WEDDING PARTY, CORPORATE EVENT AND SMALL CLUBS ??? IS IT SOUND GOOD ENOUGH ???
Fair point! But I don't think Traktor has drum sequences. Also, they've been very slow in bringing in new and innovative controllers. My biggest personal frustration with them 😅
They are slow but steady…. I am impressed by the Traktor software… really by the one key effects and we can create infinite effects… I use my laptop keyboard for effects which I have created. I will put a video soon…
My late Christmas present for me,, also just ✔️ done my first DJ in a nightclub 2 weeks ago. .got another DJ gig Tomorrow..after 4 years of DJ practicing.
@djcarlo no complaints 👌, did ok, it was a small crowd, they danced well, back to the same nightclub again...4 years of DJ training paid off , thanks for watching your vids, I hoped to get more DJ gear.
Well at least it has balanced out puts. Although you could cop an ns4fx and serato pro for almost half the price and still have a reasonably familiar "layout"
In some countries where the dollar is really strong against the local currency, controllers like FLX 4 even DDJ 400 are still at almost six figures in price. ATM I can't even imagine buying an Opus Quad, XDJ or GRV let alone CDJs. I'm missing out it seems.
Hmm, this could be pretty cool for live production sets. Thinking of combining Push 3, TR-8S and this controller where you can mix in stems from other tracks along with live production and pre-made clips.
@@djcarlowell, I'm an experienced DJ but I gave up around 5 years ago, I'm back producing tracks so i just want a set up to check mixes etc on the off chance I may play in clubs again. I don't own a laptop so would have to Hook the GRV up to my studio PC which would take up more room, kinda like the plug and play idea of the Denon's, though I have proper speakers I could use instead of the built in ones.
Why do they make a dj console thats not gonna work its main attraction in serato, if they wanna capture a good sales of their unit they should integrate it both in serato and rekordbox
I love my Rane Four - but would love something like the Groove Circuit for easier/lazier quick mixing - is there a peripheral piece of kit that I could put in the chain that would do something similar to the Groove Circuit?
SALUT.Wait for S4 mk4 or just buy mk3? I wonder if mk4 will come out soon. It would be terrible to get mk3 right before mk4 comes out. What would you do in my situation?
Nice controller however I’ve never liked the CDJ layout. Specifically the performance pads location. Reaching over the jog wheels feels unnatural. And why XLR outputs?
Thank you for the excellent review as always DJ Carlo! I'm considering upgrading my current NS6II (which is still a great controller) and I'm debating between the GRV6 and the Rev5. I feel like there are more opportunities for creativity with the GRV6 but would it be worth it to splurge a bit more for the REV5? Thanks in advance.
Theyre both awesome, but if you're not much of a scratch DJ, the GRV6 may be better suited for your needs. However, the REV5 has XLR outputs, which are much better in terms of sound quality output
Well, the GRV6 has upgrades, like Groove Circuit, and a layout more included to emulate AT's current line up of CDJs. I don't recall missing any features between the 800 GRV6
Personally, I'd go for the FLX10 for the XLR outputs, hardware FX, and stems buttons. The GRV6 is a little more niche, but if you like doing quick drum cuts, this is perfect for on-the-fly mashups
Hey Carlo! I appreciate the well put together video! Really helps to understand all the functions and quirks! I’ve been thinking about upgrading to a 4 channel controller (I currently have an FLX4), I was just wondering if you’d recommend the GRV6 controller for an upgrade or should I just splurge on the FLX10?? I know the GRV6 doesn’t have XLR functions but is it still possible to run DJ sets with it? That’s really what’s holding me back from buying a grv6, I really like the style and functions I must say! I really appreciate all the great videos you put out!
Fair point! Though the DDJ 800 is getting older now. I still hope they release an updated version of it! They haven't released anything in the 8 range yet
Great vid as always! Do you need to subscribe for the Groove Circuit feature? Or does this unit just unlock the feature? I noticed that Groove Circuit is an available feature for the their Core sub. Just wondering. Thanks.
@@djcarlo Yea one would think but I'm just being careful to not jump the gun. Afterall, after my purchase of the PLX-CRSS12's I found out I needed a DVS purchase through their core sub to use with RB. I already had one with Serato so I now just use Serato or it works fine with VDJ and DJPro also. Thanks.
@@djcarlo It just okay. I was actually looking forward something between FLX6 and FLX10 which this controller fit for it and I like it. However I feel they could have done better with the out put and also add screen on the jog just to monitor the time of the playing track and the wavefront which will be make more appealing.
@@paasolo8202 100% if it had better inputs (for other decks) and outputs and jog displays I would almost buy it. The last problem with this is the pitch slider, the unit has lovely big jogs and tiny pitch sliders like the FL4, which makes it an instant no on this kind of unit for me!
Will the drum banks be available for download without this controller? I’m thinking of using the same function on the sampler on the flx 10 combined with stems.
Hey DJCarlo, Could you please share why someone might choose the FLX10 over the upcoming GRV6? I understand that the GRV6 is missing certain inputs, so the sound card is probably more basic, right? Is there anything else that differentiates the two that I should consider before making a decision?
Yes on that front. Get the FLX10 if you want a more robust and long term controller, if you’ve a budget, if you don’t need these drum modes, if you want xlrs, if you want better build quality and if you want better quality everything (jogs, faders, etc.). If I had 2k to burn, I’m choosing the FLX 10. But if I’m on a tight budget and just want a solid controller, then I’ll get the grv6. Best long term decision is the flx10!
@@djcarlo I wanna level up from my ddj-rb, because of the annoying small pitchdaders which makes it most of the time impossible to beatmatch without sync. Shall I get a flx4, this one or wait a little longer for new stuff from alpha T
Depends what you're looking for! If you like playing with the drums and making live remixes, this one may be your key. The FLX10 would be your choice for more straightforward mixing
Im thinking to get this one as it will be my first gear, but I'm not sure if this'll be a wise choice or to get the flx10. What would you recommend? Also been told to get the xdj az as to go professional.
I'd actually recommend the FLX10 if you're looking for getting your first controller. The Groove Circuit feature may be too advanced, unless you're looking at utilizing that a lot in your sets 🥳
Does anybody know how I can get my board to light up and start up? I can’t get it to work with serato, even though I got both of the master 1 and master 2 audio outputs hooked up.

@@djcarlo Thank you..
I use rekordbox!
yeah~! best to keep waiting then! but the FLX-10 is such a great controller! Stems will only get better as tech does!
HELLO DEAR DJ CARLO ❤❤❤,
Q) NO. 1
IS GRV-6 COMES WITH REKORDBOX "SUBSCRIBTION PLAN" OR ITS INCLUDED PAID VERSION ???
Q) NO. 2
IS GRV-6 GOOD FOR WEDDING PARTY, CORPORATE EVENT AND SMALL CLUBS ???
IS IT SOUND GOOD ENOUGH ???
1) I believe Rekordbox is unlocked with the GRV6
2) The sound is balanced, and pretty good!
does it come with amen break though 🤣
Haha, it could! I know there are still assets they'll be releasing that I don't have access to
If effects available is important to you, just go with traktor.
Fair point! But I don't think Traktor has drum sequences. Also, they've been very slow in bringing in new and innovative controllers. My biggest personal frustration with them 😅
Depends on what kind of DJ you want to become. If you want to be a club dj then only play on pioneer gear
They are slow but steady…. I am impressed by the Traktor software… really by the one key effects and we can create infinite effects… I use my laptop keyboard for effects which I have created. I will put a video soon…
What do you recommand buy GRV 6 or FLX-10 ? Because GRV seems better than FLX10 , but what i like on FLX 10 is , you can adjust the jog
The FLX10 generally has more features, but it doesn't have the dedicated Groove Circuit buttons
How about AlphaTheta improve their stem separation engine and then bring controller like GRV6? Their stems IMO are the worst on the market right now.
I'm waiting on this one too lol
Meanwhile all my hours spent re-drumming tracks quietly cries itself to sleep
Hahahahaha, well, at least this will help make it easier!
My late Christmas present for me,, also just ✔️ done my first DJ in a nightclub 2 weeks ago. .got another DJ gig Tomorrow..after 4 years of DJ practicing.
That's awesome! How'd it go?
@djcarlo no complaints 👌, did ok, it was a small crowd, they danced well, back to the same nightclub again...4 years of DJ training paid off , thanks for watching your vids, I hoped to get more DJ gear.
@djcarlo my 3rd DJ set i had a Huge crowd..just before thus Christmas 🎄
time 9:27 what are those tiny bar type screens????
Wait, what are you referring to? The time stamp is the end of the video 😅
@@djcarlo on top of the controller there are 2 bar type screens showing waveform and track information.
is getting a 1000srt still worth it in 2024? i’m tryna see if i can get a good deal on a used one or if i should just get the flx10
I still stand by it! Though I love the dedicated stem buttons on the FLX10 too
I still stand by it! Though I love the dedicated stem buttons on the FLX10 too
Well at least it has balanced out puts. Although you could cop an ns4fx and serato pro for almost half the price and still have a reasonably familiar "layout"
That’s true! But those are rare to find nowadays..
What would you suggest for Dj's that spin House, Tech House, and Trance? An all-in-one controller a bit higher end than the GRV6?
Actually, this *could* be up your alley, since it focuses on grooving and the beats. Otherwise, a strong standalone works wonders
Hmmmmmm. Another possible controller option. The price point isn't too bad.
Perfectly set at the mid range! Go for it!
In some countries where the dollar is really strong against the local currency, controllers like FLX 4 even DDJ 400 are still at almost six figures in price.
ATM I can't even imagine buying an Opus Quad, XDJ or GRV let alone CDJs. I'm missing out it seems.
Yowza, what country are you from? Inflation really hits hard unfortunately
Hmm, this could be pretty cool for live production sets. Thinking of combining Push 3, TR-8S and this controller where you can mix in stems from other tracks along with live production and pre-made clips.
I think it's totally possible, and I feel like that's how AlphaTheta envisioned this being used haha
@@davefellows ddj xp2
@@Madness915eptx yeah, saw that, looks pretty cool
Denon Live 4 or this ?
Hmmmm, they’re quite different. Are you looking for a system with speakers, or do you like fast mixing with tricks?
@@djcarlowell, I'm an experienced DJ but I gave up around 5 years ago, I'm back producing tracks so i just want a set up to check mixes etc on the off chance I may play in clubs again. I don't own a laptop so would have to Hook the GRV up to my studio PC which would take up more room, kinda like the plug and play idea of the Denon's, though I have proper speakers I could use instead of the built in ones.
Why do they make a dj console thats not gonna work its main attraction in serato, if they wanna capture a good sales of their unit they should integrate it both in serato and rekordbox
I think it's more of Serato's move to integrate a Groove Circuit-like feature. So far, it doesn't have it yet
@@djcarlo thanks idol..
I love my Rane Four - but would love something like the Groove Circuit for easier/lazier quick mixing - is there a peripheral piece of kit that I could put in the chain that would do something similar to the Groove Circuit?
Well, groove circuit appears to be a rekordbox thing, so that wont work with the Rane Four from the get go unfortunately
SALUT.Wait for S4 mk4 or just buy mk3? I wonder if mk4 will come out soon. It would be terrible to get mk3 right before mk4 comes out. What would you do in my situation?
I honestly don't know because NI likes releasing new equipment like once a decade haha
i want to buy a controller, i doubt between the DDJ GRV6 and the FLX10.
What would you guys recomand? Since the FLX10 is almsot twice as expensive.
If you feel like you're going to make good use of Groove Circuit, then this is the one!
In terms of functions or djing experience, how does it compare to the FLX10?
Feels incredibly similiar but the FLX-10 has better build quality!
Wait so you get the groove circuit drum swap function only on recordbox dj? Can you drum swap on serato???
Unfortunately, yes. It's a Rekordbox exclusive for now. When using Serato, the Groove Circuit portion turns into a Stems suite
@@djcarlo Well that sucks. Thank you for the reply.
this or ddj 800? what would yall recommend?
Probably this, as the technology is much newer
bro what the best dj software of 2024 i saying virtualdj is the best love here your views on it
I don't really have an opinion on VDJ as I don't use them, but I heard they're great!
Nice controller however I’ve never liked the CDJ layout. Specifically the performance pads location. Reaching over the jog wheels feels unnatural. And why XLR outputs?
My guess, they didn't have enough space for XLRs. I'll take the PLs over just RCAs though!
Between the ddj 800 and the GRV6 what would you choose? I have the ddj 800 but if i buy the GRV6 will i miss something?
Well, the GRV6 has upgrades, like Groove Circuit, and a layout more included to emulate AT's current line up of CDJs. I don't recall missing any features between the 800 GRV6
In case anyone is looking for the background track - I think it's WHEN A FIRE STARTS TO BURN (ManilaJunkie & Marco Pedro Remix)
Wow, you got it!
It's a gorgeous controller. I want it based on that alone.
It is! Some people say it looks ugly, but I disagree!
Hi I would like to know which controller you would recommend between DDJ-GRV6 or the DDJ-FLX10 and also why, Thank you.
Personally, I'd go for the FLX10 for the XLR outputs, hardware FX, and stems buttons. The GRV6 is a little more niche, but if you like doing quick drum cuts, this is perfect for on-the-fly mashups
@@djcarlothank you for responding I will think about that
Oh absolutely! The outputs are actually what most set ups use for their booth monitors, so it should work just as well with normal monitors!
Get a Roland dj-505 instead Cheaper with XLR outputs and DVS function for turntables or Cdj's
Fair advice! Though I feel like Rekordbox users will need this one
i wanna buy it but i also wanna do gigs with it is that posibal?
Of course! Having TRS outputs will be highly beneficial in that case
helloo, today i want to upgrade my dj controller from flx4 to:
ddj 800
or the grv6?
what do you think?
I'd opt for the GRV6 between those two. Keep yourself more future proof!
That was my question also ,,,, thank you so much ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
If you want to use it with XLR then a trs-to-xlr adapter could work, right? Would that affect the sound quality?
You could, but it might affect the sound as it's not a direct XLR connection. It's like running a 320kbps mp3 file through a program to make it WAV
I got one of these a bit back, and id say its an amazing piece of kit. Did a tech mix and it felt super smooth to use
Oh, when? This just came out last month haha
Less than a week after it's release lol. Been waiting on something like this for a while so I jumped the opportunity when I had it
But still i think Between a GRV6 and ddj 800 i still would it choice the DDJ 800 cause it has the colour effects the grv6 doesn't have.
Fair point! Though the DDJ 800 is getting older now. I still hope they release an updated version of it! They haven't released anything in the 8 range yet
@@djcarlo Dj Carlo you know Serato bout to release it out real soon 😂. That’s the only reason I haven’t sold my Ddj yet
What about the roland dj808? They did it better like 10years ago
True! But the difference is, as far as I know, is that the drum samples can be continuously downloaded and updated for the GRV6
I've been using dj studio to do mashups but after the update its acting up. Have people been seeing this issue?
Oh yikes! What's happening?
What better DDJ REV5 OR DDJ GRV6?
I personally don't think they're comparable as they have different target markets
Thank my idol @@djcarlo
this or the FLX10?
I prefer the FLX10 for my personal style of mixing, but this is great for on-the-fly remixing!
I bought this controller but when I plug it in my laptop, the mixer lights blink red and that's it, any advice?
Hmmm, are you running the latest version of Rekordbox or Serato? You may need to update the drivers as well
Where do you place this in comparison to the DDJ 800? This or the 800?
Hmmm, I cant directly compare them. They're somewhat different overall
This Controller needs full Recordbox Plan or all goes nice with Free Plan?
Great vid as always! Do you need to subscribe for the Groove Circuit feature? Or does this unit just unlock the feature? I noticed that Groove Circuit is an available feature for the their Core sub. Just wondering. Thanks.
I think it'll be unlocked by this unit. It wouldn't make sense for it not to be available haha
Thanks.
Are the Jog wheels mechanical?
Nope! Just standard ones
Looking bettet than FLX 6 but a little dissaponted, i don't know why. I will figure it out.
Maybe it's just not what you're looking for in a controller
@@djcarlo It just okay.
I was actually looking forward something between FLX6 and FLX10 which this controller fit for it and I like it.
However I feel they could have done better with the out put and also add screen on the jog just to monitor the time of the playing track and the wavefront which will be make more appealing.
@@paasolo8202 100% if it had better inputs (for other decks) and outputs and jog displays I would almost buy it. The last problem with this is the pitch slider, the unit has lovely big jogs and tiny pitch sliders like the FL4, which makes it an instant no on this kind of unit for me!
@@kimchi_b 💯 right.
Will the drum banks be available for download without this controller? I’m thinking of using the same function on the sampler on the flx 10 combined with stems.
I think so, but I wouldn't know how you'd be able to trigger them. There's not enough buttons on other controllers
@@djcarlo Thanks
GRV 6 or XDJ-RR?
GRV6 for sure nowadays
Hey! Which one would you choose between the GRV6 and the DDJ800?
Probably the GRV6, as the DDJ 800 is getting a little older now
im using the flx-4 and was debating on the flx-10 would that be a better choice or this?
If you're going to be using the Groove Circuit feature, this is it!
is this better or ddj-1000?
I’d say it’s not really a fair comparison, as they both have different sets of features. The FLX10 would be the successor to the 1000
The pitchfader😢 how is it performing?
I wonder how good it will perform with a android tablet attachment
Pitch fader looks good so far! No problems on my end
@@djcarlo I wanna level up from my ddj-rb, because of the annoying small pitchdaders which makes it most of the time impossible to beatmatch without sync. Shall I get a flx4, this one or wait a little longer for new stuff from alpha T
FLX10 or this?
Depends what you're looking for! If you like playing with the drums and making live remixes, this one may be your key. The FLX10 would be your choice for more straightforward mixing
NO FX on Mic, right?
Yes none of
Waiting for DDJ 800 upgraded version
I don't see it on the radar though. I feel like they lumped it together with the FLX10
@@djcarlo what would be the advantages or differences between flx 10 and grv6? Even though flx10 is older controller
Does anybody know how I can get my board to light up and start up? I can’t get it to work with serato, even though I got both of the master 1 and master 2 audio outputs hooked up.
Are you running the latest version of Serato, and have you installed all the drivers?
@ Yeah, I’ve downloaded the recent update. I’m also pretty sure all of the drivers are up to date as well. Which specific ones do I need downloaded?
What about the flx 10?
What about it?
I just bought an FLX10 should I cancel my order and get this? Thoughts?
Tbh, if you have the FLX10 on the way, keep that one first! That's already on a higher tier than the GRV6
@@djcarlo Great thank you!

Hold on to your hat for that one! Lots of buzz around the AZ
When will it come to India bro?
That....I can't answer. You'll need to talk to your local music and DJ stores for that
Can i connect a phone to this at all?
Yup! It's compatible with Rekordbox Mobile for Android and iOS. I think I mentioned that in the video
Where to download the sample drums pack
You'll need to wait for AlphaTheta's announcement! It should be on their website
Hi carlo does it has scratch bank and sample? 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'm not sure about scratch bank, but sample yes, as it needs Rekordbox DJ to work.

How is the mic input?
Same as the Master Outs! 1/4" TRS
I am torn between selling my rev 5 to get the grv 6. Can someone tell me if I’m making the right decision 😂😮💨😭
You’re not. Better to upgrade to a FLX10 or 1000 or Rev7!
Hey Dj Carlos, I just want to know if the GRV6 is compatible with rekordbox 6 or you will need to update to rekordbox 7?
Probably yes, but I don't think it'll have groove circuit on it if you run on RB 6
