Material that I used:
Note: I used the sleeves of an old jacket to cover the hat. It wasn't enough fabric to cover the bottom part of the brim so I used felt. Also, I didn't have enough fabric to cover the interior lining of the hat and to make the band that goes around it but you can add it.😉
* 2 Poster Boards
* Hot glue Sticks
* White glue
* Newspaper and/or Paper towels
* Aluminum Foil
* Brown Fabric (I recycled an old jacket made of faux Suede)
* Felt
* Acrylic Paint - Black (Diluted with water)
Tools:
* Glue gun
* Scissors
* Utility knife

I used this tutorial to make a human sized sorting hat for my daughter’s Halloween costume (adjustments had to be made of course) and it turned out amazing- she got so many compliments!❤ it did take me a looong time though, as the hat ended up being about 1.5 m high from top to bottom 😂

Thanks!😊 I recycled the sleeves of an old jacket. They were long sleeves. I’m not sure how much fabric it was. If the width of the fabric is 48 inches I would estimate that 28” long would be enough to cover the entire hat, including the bottom of the brim and straps. Hope it helps!😊

Beautiful job! What did you use to add colour details at the end of the project?
Thank you!😊 I used black acrylic paint but it was very diluted with water to create the light shadow effect.
I have done the project. Thank you very much for the great idea. One of my mistakes was that I applied at the beginning, too much hot glue. So it was partly no longer possible to get the resulting folds smooth. But I had used real suede, also from an old jacket. Of course, suede is hardly stretchable. The hat looked really nice before I covered it with the leather. Especially in the mouth area it looks scary :-)) Maybe I'll put a second layer just around the face. I hope the contours will still be recognisable then. 😀
Knowing me and not wanting to make a mess, I changed one thing. Instead of papier-mâché, I used 1 layer of masking tape and my craft cardboard had a weight of 300g/m².
Perhaps you can add a little notice to the video so that this mistake doesn´t happen to others.

Hi. I would like to make this but I'm not sure where I can find poster boards that u used. Can you tell where did u buy them. And I love that hat it's the most realistic one that I have ever seen.
You can find them at dollar stores, craft stores. Other names for poster board: Bristol board, paperboard.
