Pointing out a missed lethal at 24:52. Underworld Breach with Lightning Bolt is REALLY strong reach. Could've played Breach for RU, leaving you 4 untapped red sources, and then bolted 4 times for 12 damage, and swung in the air for 8 more (cause delirium on the DRC). I think you got caught up too much with answering the board and didnt consider the burn plan
Yeah the DRC bit was wrong here, but it was super lethal regardless.. Casting 4 Bolts does that to a life-total. Even with everything that was played before here.. Bolt face from hand + attack with Arcanist was still lethal.
I was never a fan of these midrangey/control izzet decks. But watching it from this side of things has given me a lot more respect for it. I’m blown away by how much card selection this modern deck has. Maybe I’m misevaluating since I’m still kinda new to legacy, but this seems every bit as consistent as legacy delver. This was a great league and a great video! Looking forward to what’s coming up next 😁😁😁
Your biggest issue with Dreadhorde in legacy was that the blue deck has efficient cantrips that warp the entire game, and an otherwise balanced creature got banned instead of blue decks taking a hit. The URx shell is identical, and the only thing that changes is which efficient threats they choose. It doesn't matter what threat they run, they are always the best deck.
For whatcits worth...Game 3 with breach out you had enough to cast 3 bolts (not to include the drc triggers), DHA to cast a 4th ledger shredder should have pitched something to get a counter but even with 2 power plus subtlety it was exactly 17 :P 18 if bird got an extra counter. But you worked through it anyway, good work
I miss being able to say "you didn't play around simian, simian, manamorphose, counterspell;" the only thing I miss about spirit guide being out of the format, I can't joke about potential outs :(
I was your round four opponent, got pretty lucky game two that you never saw the ei or bolt. I'm still on the fence about the arcanists. Its insane when it does it's thing but definitely misses having a second premium cantrip.

at 22:50 you discard explosives to ledger shredder. I was envisioning that, with the saga out, the game plan would become to otawara the pithing needle and use both explosives to take care of constructs + the other one drops (that aren't needle). what do you think of that?
1:05:17 Yeah it's unclear to me why you didn't elect to triple block DHA when you had the chance. You said it did it's thing but the trigger is before blocks and any deck running it isn't likely to be short on payoffs
Ponder is the best at finding a specific card, but it’s worse than preordain if you see one card you want and 2 you don’t. Preordain gives complete control over every card.

How can DRC swing when it came into play that turn?
DRC has summoning sickness, but there was still 3 red mana for bolt dealing 9 + 5 flying damage with another bolt from DHA trigger to deal exactly 17.
Dha could also just cast the bolt in the end

It was on summoning sickness, however 5 in the air + 3 bolts = 14 and then the attack trigger on DHA would indeed make 17 exactly lethal

While this archetype is my least favorite to play, that round 2 against storm was really cool to watch

Game 2 of Round 4, couldn't you have discarded Ragavan instead of the land to keep shredder alive and also develop lethal?
