    About the MUTES...
    As the fx are in the chain of sound, mutung the track will result in muting whole track engine...
    1) mute tracks with AMP VOL or XVOL parameters (check AMP page while holding scene button)
    As that will mute the sample sound, before reaching fx slots ..
    2) Use "play free" with ONE2 trigger
    This will enable starting and stoping each one of tracks sequencer... Tracks will be played in a way as ableton plays clips, check manual on this topic
    As non of these options "MUTE" the track engine, will get "non cut efx" at the end...

    • @IhorMedia

    Hey there Ihor! I enjoyed this alot. I may have an Octatrack tip for you: function+arrows in the slot list allows you to move to through the next/previous samples in the audio folder without having to go browsing. I thought this might have been useful while you were looking for a fresher bassline around the 23 min mark. Keep up the good work.

    Stellar work on the tune! Also, I really like your trick with using exponential LFOs to emphasize the transients.
    Re: the mutes thing, it's also my single biggest gripe about the Octatrack. I've got a handful of less-than ideal workarounds:
    1. Someone else mentioned this: XVols on scenes. Not very improvisational, but it's there in a pinch.
    2. Manually muting the volumes in the amp page (obviously this doesn't work for more than one track at a time).
    3. Put reverb on a "return" track - patch the cue out back into one of the inputs and use a thru machine. In the personalize menu, you can turn on "cue mutes tracks." I've been using this for transitions and it works so-so (but also eats up an entire track just for reverb or delay).

    You always have some great ideas! I really liked the way you used 'exp trig distortion' LFO - I want to go home and try it!
    Mutes: As well as muting by volume change, you could also set up a track (with the fx) and a neighbour (with the lead, for instance) and just mute the neighbour so the lead tails still ring out. I haven't tried it but I guess it will work.

    You can use a scene with xvol to zero for muting individual tracks with reverb or delay tails. You probably won’t be using all 16 scenes per bank, right? It’s not ideal I know, but sometimes it works just fine. As long as you don’t need other cross faded duties in that part of the performance.

    • @IhorMedia
      @IhorMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Good point. I think it requires a little bit more preparation to do that. Maybe just setting a few scenes that mute some specific set of tracks. Not ideal, but I think it will do.

    на октатреке к сожалению нет другого варианта мьютить треки. На окте они использовали алгоритм audio mute, а на дигитакте и дигитоне там другой алгоритм - trig mute, где мьютишь только сами триги, а все хвосты эффектов остаются. Но диги машины это уже гораздо более поздние устройства

    • @IhorMedia
      @IhorMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice 1 Ihor. You're clearly an Elektron aficionado and the Octatrack sounds great in your hands 11 years after it's release. But if I was forced to guess, I'd say you didn't start with Elektron, and there were other hardware samplers before. I'd go further and guess you used to use an MPC. I have an MPC2000xl in storage that I'm planning to reunite with after many years of separation, and I'd love to see your workflow to get me back on the right track and to get my work, you know, to flow. Once I get the bloody thing out of storage, obvs... You still have an MPC? Or is my guess just way off?

    • @IhorMedia
      @IhorMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jim! I am not entirely sure when I started exactly... If making rhythmic loops on my fathers tape machine counts - then it was more than 25 years ago. There was Music 2000 on Play Station a some point! I played guitar for some long part of my life. Then, not much time ago I rediscovered the world of electronic music with all the amazing modern technology around it. I've been messing in the DAW for a while and got quite some knowledge. But it did not click up until I got my first Elektron box.
      So. I've never owned an MPC. But I pretty much know what it is! And I know why people love it. Maybe one day...
      Thanks for your comment. Your guess wasn't too off. But it was like a complement for me. I am not THAT experienced as I appear I guess haha
