The Valley Railroad has long been a mainstay of steam operations in Connecticut for over 50 years, with a total fleet of three operational steam locomotives. During the summer months, the railroad operates daily service (rain or shine) between Essex Station and just north of Hadlyme, offering a leisurely 12 mile round trip, with an option to disembark at Deep River for a Riverboat cruise along the Connecticut River. In this video, former Aberdeen & Rockfish 1920 ALCO-built 2-8-2 "Mikado" #40 is at the head of the excursions, often recognized as the "flagship" engine of the historic operation. It would be really cool! But years ago a flood washed out the tracks between Hadlyme and Haddam. Therefore trains can’t run all the way to Middletown. But if I’m not wrong the FVRR is planing to restore the tracks so trains can run farther north
