They did try a redemption arc for Sabretooth after AoA, but he got back to his wicked ways (as he should). But yeah, AoA Sabretooth was amazing (especially his connection with Blink, making them the AoA version of Wolverine and Jubilee).

Age of Apocalypse was what got me into Marvel Comics. Not to say I wasn't familiar with the X-Men since I watched the 90's cartoon, and Spider-Man and his amazing friends years before. But I think Gambit and the X-ternals was the first one I actually read, and then I had to read them all.

It seems pretty silly that he cannot regenerate his hand if he can literally regenerate his entire body after having it burned away. I don't care too much for this adamantium poisoning retcon to be honest, but I get it from a plot perspective. However, it makes even less sense in light of the events that follow after he loses the adamantium coating on his bones and is then given it back by Apocalypse later. Why can't Apocalypse make better adamantium that isn't poisonous?
I'm surprised you didn't mention the resurgence of AoA during Uncanny X-Force or the Xiles books. You kinda did but some of those are pretty significant events.

Abyss has a 616 counterpart and he made his first appearance in Cable and later we learn that he is Nightcrawler's half brother.
