    Outstanding tying video. Beautiful looking fly. Mine never turn out looking that good, but I'm going to give that tail-splitting trick a try. Thanks much

    Tried your tip of tyjng them off my dry fly when i couldnt tell what they were rising to and landed a few gorgeous cutts! amazing that the bigger fish will feed on such tiny flies. Thanks for the video!

    Well, that's very good question. It's kind of all of the above with possible exception of a dry fly as they don't float very well without a good bit of floatant. I almost always fish them behind a dry in a tandem rig and let them sink. It's a remarkably effective pattern especially when nothing else seems to work.

    You can also see how Rim Chung ties his RS2. As the tightlinevideo suggests, it's not an easy fly to tie... at least not the way Rim does it.
    Tying in the tail is particularly tricky and takes a lot of practice. However, after 20+ years of using this fly, I can attest to the RS2's efficacy,
    so it's worth learning to tie it.
    Rim came up with a similar fly ( Avatar ) a number of years ago, which is similar to the RS2, but skips the tail and is tied on a curved hook.
    The Avatar is also extremely effective. We typically fish a two fly rig in Colorado: an RS2 and an Avatar.

    Love it! However I had better luck when I shortened the tail about half.

    It is a nymph.Could be a Mayfly emerger or sunk Trico Spinner, if black.

    Great videos Tim! How would you fish the RS2? Is it dead drifted deep or is fish higher in the water column? Or as a dropper?

    • @tightlinevideo
      @tightlinevideo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      All of the above. My favorite though is down deep, trailed off the back of a weighted nymph.

      Micro-Fibbets, you can also find them called Mayfly Tails.

    Is this still an RS2 using CDC for the stub wing?

    • @tightlinevideo
      @tightlinevideo  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it is, but I guess Mr Chung would be the final authority. The CDC doesn't change the look or function of the fly and I have a feeling he might have used it if it was available.

    could one use antron yarn instead of the cdc for a more subsurface emerger?

    • @trentonsendziak2906
      @trentonsendziak2906 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nickolas P yes you can. I just slit the Antron in half so I don’t have to much. It works very good for rs2.Hoped that helped

    Is this a dry fly, emerger, or nymph?

    • @HydraTU

      I'm sure its a dry fly

    • @dusanivanovic7043
      @dusanivanovic7043 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think its an emerger or nymph, depending on how you fish it? e.g. Fish it as a dropper with a heavier nymph as your point fly? Or you can fish it under a dry, and have it trailing your dry?

    • @unionse7en
      @unionse7en 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HydraTU no, emerger, sub surface or in the film

    • @willdykema
      @willdykema 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      its all three actually, you can put it behind a nymph and fish it low, unweighted just beneath the surface (most popular method) or even floated as the second dry in a double dry setup (because its impossible to see). It imitates almost any emerging mayfly and midge larvae as well as nymphs that have been kicked up from their hiding places in riffles. As a dry it makes a good trico spinner, crippled mayfly, or just a good small bug for when trout are surfacing and you cant figure out what it is.
