About the armband, he got that during Thriller Bark but it was shown so casually many people missed it. You'll probably remember Nami giving Lola a share of her treasure more but it was during that part. Luffy took it from a treasure pile and asked Nami if he could have it which was funny because saying nami gave it to him implies he thinks Nami automatically owns all the treasure. Also captain John was a skeleton in thriller bark as well so it checks out
Impel down deals with some dark stuff but imo it's one the funniest one piece arcs to date. The Luffy-Buggy combo leads to so much great comedy and I also love getting to see old characters again. Can't wait to see your reaction to all of that :)
Honestly this arc is part of the reason why Buggy is in my top 3 favorite characters. Is he a particularly deep and layered character? Well, there's more to him than meets the eye, but he's certainly not most deep character out there. Is he the strongest guy ever? No, tbh he kinda sucks at fighting. Then why do I like him? well, there's a lot to say. some of which would be spoilers. But I love how he stays relevant so much later into the show. And it's not a minor kameo like Alvida, but he's actually relevant again. And he's not even an antagonist, he's more like a comedic sidekick! That's just so great! And seeing him attack with Luffy really showcases their similairities. Luffy can stretch, Buggy can split. Luffy is susceptible to blades, but can tank blunt attacks, while Buggy is the opposite. Also, he's just so funny to me. Especially his va's line delivery is just perfectly whacky. And if we're being honest, his design is just sooooo much better here than in his introduction. The hair, the face paint, it's just soooo much better. Anyway, hope you're enjoying the arc!
Btw, a clarification about Hancock's power: Oda explained that it's a technique that puts "cute" or "beautiful" emotions into "carelessness". So the people and other beings not necessarily need to feel hmm... let's say... "strong" feelings about Hancock to be affected by her power

Despite all the cover stories and other foreshadowing Oda does I was used to so many other shonen series just ignoring their old antagonists I never thought he'd actually be relevant again. Mr 3 I was less excited for though. And you didn't misunderstand, Ace does say he took his name Portgas from his mom, so it does imply that that's her maiden name.
I LOVE STRONG WORLD. Do you plan on watching 'Episode 0' before the movie? It kinda ties in with Strong World--like an intro or prologue. I'm not actually sure if it was a promotional episode for the movie or something. Edit: The full title is ONE PIECE FILM STRONG WORLD EPISODE: 0, which is an OVA showing stuff before the actual movie. Edit edit: I FORGOT SHIKI WAS MENTIONED HERE. I now get why Strong World was in your list. Shiki being here was lowkey an advert for the movie 😂 I don't think he's relevant to the main series after this though? I may be wrong.

Sea prism stone in impel down would also hurt the guards if they are devil fruit users. So them using it everywhere would be bad.
