I wasn’t expecting much out of this series. In 2007, New Line failed to successfully execute a $200+ million adaptation of The Golden Compass. Even now, the production values look lush and beautiful for an older film. So a steamed series being an “inferior” format and a smaller budget wasn’t convincing me. What amazed me in this intro was: I only read the books once. And that was in like the late 2000s and a lot of the story had already vanished from my memory. And yet when I saw this intro I immediately recognised Citegazze and the name instantly popped back into my brain. And when the city was shown in the episodes, it was EXACTLY what I imagined it to look like. The last time I saw a movie portray a place just like I imagined it from a book was Minas Tirith in Lord of the Rings.
*P.S.* After getting to watch the cold-open of 2nd series only now and getting reminded that I didn't even get to watch the finale of 1st in full, I'm afraid to say that my expectations of this series has sunk foundationally and in light of the said development - please consider my preceding-reply solemnly withdrawn. I realised that the two lines joining together at the very beginning of the sequence is the same thing that's shown on Malone's computer she starts up The Cave. I feel like after season 3, we're going to realise just how much effort the writers have put into this show

When I first saw this intro in ep1 I went crazy when I saw the end part come out of the other world instead of lyras/wills. I can’t wait for the s3 one. 1:29 slicing through worlds
I suspect book 3 will need an extra long season or two slightly shorter ones.
Longer page-count than the first 2?
@@maazkalim it's about twice the length and an enormous amount happens. I wouldn't want them to rush through the story
The latest-comment belongs to you.
Simply stunning work by the design team at Elastic, and of course Balfe's epic score
Looks interesting. At least it’s based on a completed novel.
Lol. Throwing GoT shade my friend?
@AMB-Music third season would be final seasons, they didn't intended to make fourth seasons
At least both share the smugness of killing-off characters randomly!
So don't get too trope-y, eh?
Lorne Balfe has given probably the two best albums of his career with His Dark Materials.
I love the soundtrack but I'm completely obsessed with the sound design of this show! We need to more spectres please.
I realised that the two lines joining together at the very beginning of the sequence is the same thing that's shown on Malone's computer she starts up The Cave. I feel like after season 3, we're going to realise just how much effort the writers have put into this show
As marvellous as for the season 1😍 can't wait for it
The tower of angels!
Between this, GOT and Westworld god knows HBO does an amazing job with it's titles...whoever is in charge should get their own award 👑👑👑
I get chills when I see will and Lyra on the stairs together every single time. When I first saw this intro in ep1 I went crazy when I saw the end part come out of the other world instead of lyras/wills. I can’t wait for the s3 one. Also, idk if anyone else noticed this, but towards the middle when the choir kicks in, you see the golden compass get covered by the subtle knife, and then you pass through what looks like an amber lense. I love this show so much
Yea that's definitely the amber spyglass that Mary makes in book 3 as for the hallway we see I'm not too sure what that is
O my god, I feel exactly the same, EXACTLY THE SAME
The opening titles for his dark material is really quite special the music the visuals I love it so excited to see what they do with the amber spyglass ❤️
Love the show! Really captures the feelings I had when reading the books.
Got Intro: explained the past.
His Dark Materials intro: foreshadows the future.
I love if you see the old title, you can actually see the tower world right next to Lyra's world. Love the details.
How can Lorne Balfe turn a masterpiece into MASTERPIECE!!!😭
And he will certainly turn season 3 into a *MASTERPIECE*!
I always get goosebumps the moment the cave appears
Same I also get it at 1:01 when it zooms out on citagazze
wow the first episode from season 2 was amazing, i love it.
Oh gosh I'm so amped up about season 3
The visuals of this show. Omg HBO is incredible
Actually it was produced by BBC in Britain
@@franziskafrank_filme co produced
@@icariusnegus6560 a technicality: BBC 1 commissioned it, HBO bought BBC Studios' production credit when they purchased international distribution. HBO have very little to do with production.
@@icariusnegus6560 BBC did all of the work. HBO just swooped in at the last moment because they wanted to co produce it because they needed a rep boost after GoT. They only helped international release.
@@MatthewAMel u know that HBO and BBC have a contract to co produce series together right. They added money also
oooooh my god i finished 4th episode and i now I see the wings of angels emerging from the dust at the beginning
I love how each title sequence emphasises the journey of Lyra in the first season while the second season Will's Journey. The music is also getting increasingly intense. So looking forward to the final season's version...
This show is doing amazing so far imo
Ok, lets get ready to cry again.
ROGER!!!!!
Lee and Hester!!💔💔 And Mr Parry!💔 And the witches!
My only problem with this new opening is why there're two Subtle Knives?
I suppose it was added to be seen in detail, as we do with the alethiometer
I think it's only for visual purposes of intro.
I agree.
Isn't the first "knife" not one of the hands of the Alethiometer?
There aren’t two, it’s shown twice. Maybe the first time it’s just a small detail, a tiny part of Lyra’s world, and then the second time it becomes much more significant?
I like the tone of this show its not complicated as other shows
When I started season 1, the intro was all I needed to know 'Yeah, they get it', and they're delivering on season 2 for sure.
The best intro I have ever seen, the only I not skiping
The best intro ever!
I totally loved season 1! & now I'm getting into season 2 !! The title sequence gives me goosebumps!! 🤩👍🏻
Wow, i cant wait to finish this season. I can see the big differences for example, william goes up the stairs instead of Lyra, the building with angels forms, much more.
I always thought that at the beginning of the intro, the dust forms the subtle knife instead of the compass for Se2. and the spyglass for Se3.
out of all thebooks, the subtle knife was my favourite as a child, the game really goes up another level, like the empire strikes back or the dark knight
Ah!, a little escapism at last in these troubled times! :-)
So in love with this theme song 🔥
I was like "oh, they've changed it" but they left in the moment Will and Lyra are walking on different staircases. Phew. I don't know why, but that's my favourite bit of the intro, and it feels the most important.
About that, did you notice Will and Lyra have switched places from S1 there?
@@mariasirona1622 Omg I didn't realise that! Just went back and had a look. That's awesome! Love it even more.
I didnt notice it at first: The lyrics to the second part of the song changed!
season 1: this is the absolute best tv show opening of all time
season 2: THEY TOPPED IT? HOW. they probably harnessed the power of dust
One could go to war in slow motion, listening to this masterpiece.
I love how the theme is sync perfectly with the intro.
This is truly the best title sequence of an HBO MAX original series; they have done impeccable production and are constantly adding new elements. The soundtrack, visual aesthetics, and transitions are remarkable. If I were a judge, I would classify this as one of the best opening series of recent times.
Imagine seeing some « biblical accurate angels » in the show 🤯
that would be both scary and cool! 😯
in this hbo is perfect, always a masterpiece
