    Another detail: In the books, Snake and Wolf are childhood friends, knowing each other with a same or similar age while in the movie, if you look closely when they're getting their mugshots, you can see Wolf was born in 1991 while Snake in 1965, meaning that he's 26 years older. I think that Snake was already a young adult when he met Wolf as a child. Maybe Moe (Wolf's real name in the books) was an orphan until Snake somehow found him and took care of him, teaching him how to be a experienced criminal (maybe he was a rejected orphan too so he identified with him. In the books they don't explain if they have parents). Giving us to understand that in the movie's universe they have more like a dad-son relationship. That's whay they have a stronger bond than the other members of the crew, because they already came from diferent paths (This is confirmed by the fact that they used to be individual criminals).

    The last part of marmalade being an alien with many butts makes me think of the meteor where piranha calls it a butt-rock

    • @zeopard4508
      @zeopard4508 2 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      They actually used a running gag from much later in the book series. In the movie Marmalade keeps correcting that the meteorite isn't a butt. Later in the books another character continually corrects that they are hand tentacles not butts.

    • @trevhart2124
      @trevhart2124 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      that explains a lot xD

  • @mila2401
    @mila2401 2 ปีที่แล้ว +419

    Fun fact: In an interview (need to find it again), the producers of The Bad Guys Movie said that they were originally going to reveal Marmalade's true form as an Alien in the Movie just like how he does in the books, but it was deemed to be going too far. And it made them think that people would just leave theaters during the movie because it just got too crazy, despite it being based off the source material, aka the books. So in that case, they said they're saving the reveal for a potential sequel (which they say they really want to do.) It's also another reason why they put in the butt jokes that Piranha makes in the movie which annoys Marmalade, because it was already established that he would be the one to annoy him with that when he reveals his true form in the potential sequel, and it's a reference to Marmalade's real form as an alien in the books where he has tentacles with some butts at the end (as wierd as that might sound to those who haven't read the books.) So yes, it's confirmed that Marmalade is an alien in the movie verse as well. That gives me more credibility on my theory of him being the one who brought down the meteorite onto the city in the movie.
    Also, here's what Director Pierre Perifel had to say about there being humans in the movie, unlike the books where it's all anthropomorphic animals. "A few reasons. The first is, from the beginning, I wanted to do something that is different. The big idea in the film is that those are legendary characters that we wrote stories about and are afraid of, and it really comes from a human standpoint, you know? When you write about the Big Bad Wolf, it's a human idea it's not another animal idea. I didn't wanted to end up with the idea that those were predators in a world of preys, that would've been full on Zootopia. First of all, that concept is not exactly what I wanted to tell as a story, the story was like, we are having these characters which are prejudices, or we're prejudices against them. It was all about stereotyping and not about prey vs predator, you know? We thought 'hang on. How would a giraffe react to a piranha? They wouldn't care. But we, as humans, we do care.' and so therefore, for me, it's a metaphor our fears, these characters are a metaphor for our fears and it was important to just get the rest of the world as humans. They're really just wearing masks, they're criminal wearing masks, they're scary people wearing masks of scary animals. And Marmalade is the same thing, it's stereotyping something that is cute but is actually the opposite of that. So, it was important to keep the human standpoint on prejudice."
    Love this movie!!💖💖💖 And I find all of this interesting.

    I think I like Dreamworks’s adaptations better than the original source material. How To Train Your Dragon is a good example. I never knew about the books existence until a couple years ago an I can definitely say the movies are better despite them having almost a completely different plot and character design in comparison to the original. Dreamworks knows what’s more appealing to the audience, so it makes sense why they would do things like converting Toothless’s tiny green snake dragon design into a cool, ferocious kitty cat creature. Same goes for this movie by giving the characters more humanoid designs and personalities in order to keep it from being childish and obnoxious.

      I quite like the books. While I agree the movies are better storywise (books were very inconsistent) I liked the whole vibe of the books better than the movies.
      Random things about the books:
      The books were really gritty (I’m not sure if gritty is the right word, but yeah I’m gonna use it). Hiccup went through a LOT of ordeals in the books, a LOT worse than what he went through in the movies.
      Don’t get me wrong, Movie hiccup went through some bad crap, but Book Hiccup was dipped into freezing cold water tied up in chains, surfed on lava, got poisoned, got imprisoned in a tree with a creepy old witch, etc, etc. (that isn’t even the worst of it)
      The world was really dark and dank, and they didn’t just show berk, they showed the entire archipelago in the books.
      Snoutlout was way more developed in the books.
      There’s this character named Camicazi who they replaced with Astrid in the movies. I prefer Camicazi over all as a character, IMO she is way more fun, but it makes sense to me why they replaced her because Astrid fit more for the narrative of the movies.
      But the biggest problem with the books is that they were VERY inconsistent, the maps were inconsistent, the details were inconsistent, many things were messed up.

    First off, I thought about reading the books first, but then the drawings were so different from the animation of the movie. Also, it didn't look right in the book to me. Second, if the events of the story are different from the movie, how come they changed it in the movie? Shouldn't the events in the books stay as is in the movie? Not to mention some of the character changes. Why change some of their personalities, backgrounds, gender, and species?

    • @herlocksholmes-uv5qw

      Changes happen all of the time in adaptations. If I had a penny everytime I hated something people changed in the Sherlock Holmes canon for a adaptation, I'd be a billionaire. My salt aside, I do think that the changes in this adaptation are more well-thought out than the travesty people tend to do with my boy, especially considering that the source material is aimed towards younger children and big movie features try to target a wide audience with a variety of ages. I doubt 10 year olds would enjoy a too simplistic story on the screen, because it'd lack the action scenes with colors that get their attention.
      Sometimes, differing completely from the source is fun. See Tangled for example. It still remains my favorite princess movie because it is so far off what Rapunzel always was about, it feels like a breath of fresh air even 12 years later
      Also the change in species was adressed by one of the directors, who thought the stereotypes surrounding the animals made more sense if there were humans inventing them rather than other animals. It'd also help this movie stand out when compared to Zootopia, he said. I think the changes, though jarring, still have soul to them and are charming in their own way. They've changed a book in the past with How To Train Your Dragon and it was pretty good

    I still find weird that the film went the route of making humans and anthro animals existing simultaneously, specially since there isn't even an explanation. If they were like "Hey, so the heart (butt) meteor that crashed on Earth kinda mutated some humans into animals", it would at least give it some context.

    As much as I loved this movie, I feel that a lot of these changes were very drastic and unnecessary. Tiffany Fluffit in the movie broke my heart, as I’ve known her for so long in the books and she used to remind me a lot of Ann Gora from Swat Kats. I kept telling my mom “That’s not the Tiffany Fluffit I know!”. Even worse, I was worried that Agent Fox wasn’t going to be in the movie, as I saw no sign of her in the trailer, but of course they had to tweak her too. She’s barely even recognizable in the movie, and that’s very sad. There’s not even a single hint of the International League of Heroes.
    And don’t even get me STARTED on that Guinea Pig thing. The second book in the series, Mission Unpluckable, was all about the gang sneaking in to save CHICKENS in the same way they did with the Guinea Pigs. That iconic scene where Snake eats all those Guinea Pigs and gets a swollen gut also happened in the book, but with chickens instead. He’s even called “The Chicken Swallower” in the book. They basically just took that chicken stuff and turned it right back around to make it Guinea Pigs.
    My mom kept telling me that these changes were likely to avoid copyright issues with the books’ publisher. It’s even more sad since the writer of the books, Aaron Blabey, was involved in the movie (You see his name in the credits).
    PLEASE don’t get the idea that I hated this movie, because I loved it. It’s just the drastic changes that I wasn’t a fan of. The character design changes were honestly amazing! I didn’t mind the fact that they anthropomorphized Piranha, because he still looked great and they even made an effort to make his colors look like an actual Piranha!
    All and all, I do love this movie a lot, but I just wish that they didn’t change so much.

    one thing I loved about the adaption is how I feel like the creators of the film actually read the books. Like sure a bunch of stuff changed but there were so many detailed references:
    the butt rock to represent Marmalade being a butt alien in the book, legs/webs calling Wolf “wolfie”, and heck, they even chose to play “fly me to the moon”, which is literally a chapter name in which the gang travels to the moon to destroy the cute-zilla ray :00
    Also is no one gonna talk about how snake also went to the dark side 😭😭

    the movie seems to be this very loose adaptation of the book, like an alternative universe, and i like this approach of adaptation as the movie lovers and book lovers both have something unique to love and the overlap makes it even more satisfying knowing the common scenes, but there are a lot of differences that are kinda sad to see

    Personally I think the cat version of Tiffany might have been a whole lot better. Changing Mr. Tarantula to Miss Tarantula was a good choice. Probably a realistic looking spider wouldn't have made such a great screen character. Hopefully we'll see the International League of Heroes in the sequel.
