    Before you heading to Toraja you can visit : Bantimurung Waterfall and Rammang Rammang Village in Maros. For culinary : Konro Bakar ( grilled ribs) and Coto Makassar. Makassar is famous for its fresh seafood and there are many kind of fish. Near Losari Beach (behind the hospital) you can find many seafood restaurant such as New Dinar Restaurant etc. If you missed Pizza there is small authentic Italian Restaurant (the owner is Italian) called La Piccola Italy on those street ( Lamadukeleng Street). Natalie, the way you dressed in this video was how most Indonesian women dressed even to go to the mosque till the 1990s. But Indonesia has became much more conservative since then so now it’s prudent to ask before going into one just in case you come across people who are more opinionated about how a woman should dress.
    I’ve never liked taking the bus they have plying the route between Makassar and Rantepao, I wish there was a better way to go to Tana Toraja other than taking the bus or the plane (which is just too expensive for me).
    BTW that gado-gado looks good but it’s not a dish typical to South Sulawesi. Hope you managed to try authentic Torajan/Bugis/Makassarese dishes while you’re in the province.

    • @NataliesPassport
      @NataliesPassport  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      😱 really?! I had no idea it used to be normal to dress like that in Indonesia - especially for mosques!
      We took the overnight bus to Toraja which was actually really comfortable! The only thing we didn’t like is there wasn’t a toilet on the bus so we had to stop a couple times and it would wake everyone up 😅
      The gado gado was amazing! We didn’t try much else in Makassar as we were only there for the one day.. but we had some local food in Toraja and Rammang Rammang (videos coming soon) 🥰🎉🎉❤️

    • @kilantravels
      @kilantravels ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NataliesPassport Yeah, it’s hard to imagine now but Indonesia was a different country until the early 2000s.
      Glad that the trip to Toraja wasn’t too rough for you. Maybe in a not so distant future the government will extend the railway from Mamminasata to Tana Toraja so travelers would have another option to get around South Sulawesi.
      Oh, you guys made it to Rammang-rammang as well, that’s cool! Hope it wasn’t too difficult for you to find.

    Your journey is very interesting. for information: You will find larger Megalithic statues in the Bada Valley. The Bada Valley Megalithic Statues are located in Poso Regency, Central Sulawesi. As works of art, the megalithic statues of the Bada Valley were studied using the iconography method compiled by Erwin Panofsky. The results of research at the pre-iconographic description stage show that the forms of the Bada Valley megalithic statues have the characteristics of Polynesian type statues with disproportionate sizes. These statues are thought to have been made by migrants who came from the Formosa islands in 4000 BC, who belonged to the Mongoloid race who then acculturated with the Negrito race who occupied the Southeast Asian and Pacific islands. Enjoy your trip guys🏝

    Why don't you go to Jogja by taking the gondola that is used to pick up bird's nests. Many Japanese people there. Traditional gondola without adequate safety equipment

    When you come to Losari beach at that time, you saw lots of police and many sarnafil tents being dismantled. That's because a few days earlier a joint non-war exercise was held, namely the Komodo Multilateral Naval Exercise 2023. Navies from 36 countries took part in this exercise which was centered in the Makassar Strait. This activity is focused on regional maritime cooperation, disaster management, and humanitarian operations. I was able to see the combined practice, because I came to Makassar before the event was held. At that time, I saw that there was a parachuting attraction, a fighter plane air show, and many warships anchored around Losari beach from 36 countries.
