Is that a cheese plate mounted in between the gimbal mount and camera body? I’d love to know how you’ve mounted it exactly. Seems you have pretty perfect balance for it. I feel my cage adds too much weight making it harder to balance even though it has more mounting holes
Yes, a SmallRig cheese plate needed to barely offset it. I don’t think you’d have any problem with the cage (weight-wise) as long as it’s balanced properly.
Thank you for this review. I think the platform is amazing. Locks, Raveneye, can host the BMPCC with full cage, display, briefcase mode, it's form factor... but what is stopping me from buying it is a certain wobble. In your test footage, you see it when you run - but running is far from ideal, so OK. But also on 1,02 (look at balconies), 1:23 (Look on the far left, you see it wobble) 2:03 (look at the trees)... where is this wobble coming from? I can't remember having this on my way too small Zhiyun Crane 2. Looking for an upgrade but I'm not convinced yet... But your review was spot on! :)
@@skyvistaproductions118 Very curious to know how it goes! I also see everyone put an arca mount under their cage, and that on an arca->Manfrotto plate included... but can you also just directly use a Manfrotto plate under the cage, and put it on the gimbal? Thanks! :)
@@stevegek It's a combination of balancing it pefectly and reducing motor strength in the app. the lower the strength the smoother and less wobbling. Also having a correct "walk" (not ninja but upright and rolling off your feet) will add to a better stabilization and less or no wobbling at all.
Sorry if you answered this in the video but, I own an RS2 and was wondering if I can operate it with the pan axis locked... actually I was just doing it but Im scared if that will mess up the pan axis motor over time.. I know the R2 has an accessory external lock for the pan axis
I don’t see a reason to do that because you can set the RS2 in a mode where the pan axis stays fixed, can’t you? I know the motors will shut off if there is an overload and the gimble will go into standby mode (such as if you mechanically locked the axis) but you’d be putting strain on the motor until it did and then it would stop responding. So, in short, I wouldn’t do it.
@@skyvistaproductions118 No, on the RS2 there is only a mode where the pan axis stays fixed on a point of interest regardless of where you turn the handle. I think you misunderstood what I wanted...NOW the bigger DJI gimbal R2 has whats called a 2 axis mode where you can externally lock the pan axis so whether you turn the gimbal left or right it turns witout any delay at all... almost as if you had the camera on a glidecam or flycam and turned it with your fingers.... On the RS2 the closest you can do to mimic that is turn the deadban completely off, put in sport mode and maybe crank up the motor strength in advanced motor parameters on the app... thats why for very fast moving sport type videos I like glidecams because they give the quickest most natural pan movements with no lag
I have some questions. How do you calibrate the focus motor on the sigma lens if it doesn't have a hard stop. I'm having issues on mine, it just keeps going until it hits the attachment part for the step up ring. Secondly how are you powering the camera? Via RSS? Or just internal batteries? Lastly, what notches were each tilt, pan and roll set to? I have my BMPCC6K in the smallrig cage and am having some problems getting it balanced.
Not using the 3D focus with the sigma. No need to calibrate if using the focus wheel. Powering with internal batts or Juicebox. Settings are at default.
@SkyVistaProductions QQ: do you need the focus motor in order to use auto-focus with your sigma lens? I would assume the 3D focus system is not available yet. So Raveneye requires your focus motor in order to auto-focus your sigma lens? do you need to adjust any additional settings in the RS2 gimbal? thanks
Thanks! It seems there are a fair bit of set up videos already out there. Is there something particular you are interest in that no one seems to be covering?
Nice video! I got my RS2 pro combo yesterday, and I'm impressed with everything. One problem though. I can't get the camera control to work. No record, no focus, no ISO control, no nothing. Connecting with the included USB-C cable. Any suggestions?
I’d attach any external battery to the gimble itself rather than the camera - that way the motor doesn’t have the extra weight. I attach the Juicebox to the gimble with no problem.
Hello, thanks for the review! I wonder if its a bit too wobbly in some of the running shots 1:25 and 1:39, have you tried manually change the motor parameters to get better results and not relying on Autotune? let us know, thanks :)
@@skyvistaproductions118 true, just wondering as the ronin S had the same issues with the long body format of the bmpcc4k so wondering if it was fixed, thanks again for this review!
Yes, active track and phone monitoring are via WiFi. Everything you saw us do was with no USB C. With USB C plugged in, which means no T5, you can get some camera controls through the gimble, like record start/stop, ISO, etc.
Hey, thanks for video. Do you know if there is any way to use other focus motors than dji's (like nucleus nano) and record to SSD? Is there another solution besides cfast cards? Thank you so much
You can record to an SSD as long as the USB-C port is open on the P4k. Everything we show in the video is with SSD recording. The only thing you can’t do is control camera functions like record start / stop, ISO, etc, because that requires the RS2 to connect via USB-c to the P4k. So, any focus motor that does not require use of the P4k’s USB-C will allow you to record to SSD.
When putting the bmpcc 4k onto the rs2, do you put it all the way in or do you leave part of the baseplate thing hanging? Cuz whenever I try to put all the way, the camera would be hitting the motor/side of rs2.
Hey man, I just got the RS2 for my BMPCC6k + Sigma 18-35. I balance it perfectly and calibrate, but I see a lot of jitters on my footage. How would you recommend getting rid of those while filming?
Hello, I bought a rs2, great gimble, but I have a question about the focus motor, is I use cine lens is very easy to arrive at the end of the focus ring range because the focus rig of cine lens it has a star and a finish point do you know if there is away to calibrate like the tilta nano wireless focus. thx!
If I understand your question correctly, I think this could be solved by buying a seamless focus ring, like this: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1562199-REG/tilta_ta_fgr_8183_seamless_focus_gear_ring.html
@@skyvistaproductions118 no no this one is for photography lens... I have some prime cine lens in my bag and if I push the focus wheel the motor doesn't stop whe it arrive at the end of lens range.. Is there a way to calibrate the start and the end of the dji focus motor?
@@tscreative_studio , oh, got you. Unfortunately, to my knowledge the calibration only seems to apply to the DJI Focus wheel (sold separately) and does not seem to work for the focus dial built into the RS2. One fix in the future that could assist would be the 3D focus system that can be calibrated (it actually requires hard stop lenses to work).
Can we talk about how the focus motor barely reaches the focus ring? It's a very bad design, I am unable to hook up any longer lens I have, including the 18-35 because I don't how as fat focus ring as he has, that is a very fat focus ring
Yeah, it’s true. That was the focus ring I already had on there, so it wasn’t any problem for me. But it does seem a bit limited for smaller barrel lenses. The focus ring is from Tilta and it was three or four dollars, so it may be worth it for you.
I have canon 85mm f1.2 II USM which weight around 1.25kg approx and canon 5d mark iv wt is 800gm..so total would be 1825gm approx....and rs2 payload capacity is max 4.5kg HANDHELD as per site...But as per dji compatibility list, it doesn't support canon 85mm 1.2 II USM but support f1.4 & 1.8..Even so RSC2 support 85mm f1.2 II USM which has lower payload capacity (3Kg) than RS2...So i am getting confused whether to purchase RS2 or RSC2 ? Please help me in this regard if its possible..
I'd spring for the RS2 to give yourself more flexibility. 85mm is a pretty long lens for a gimble - not ideal. I'd recommend something in the 16 to 50mm range for a gimble.
If you're really only getting 10 minutes, get real cannon batteries. For most gimble work, a battery swap is not a big deal (25-30 mins). For longer shoots, we hook up a juicebox for over two hours record time.
12:20 exactly what i came looking for. So when the T5 ssd is used, you cant control from your mobile device or you just cant control from the gimbal buttons? Thats one thing i dont understand because i did see you use the mobile to control zebras and other settings but cant change iso?? Thanks funny dude
With the T5 you need the USB-C port on the P4k so you cannot use camera control. But, you can use the phone monitoring through the RavenEye WiFi and control the monitoring functions (false color, focus peaking, etc).
Im employed full time as a content creator for a professional football club but so far have only done writing and photography and want to add video to my arsenal. Theres an opportunity online to but an RS2 pro combo and black magic 4k cinema. Having never shot video before and unsure how the focusing even works, would this be a good beginner setup to immediately shoot quality videos? I have extensive experience as a professional stills photographer so can understand camera operation from that side of things.
It’s a great combination that I highly recommend. However, if you thought you would be shooting a good deal of action footage of the team (like on the field with them) I might recommend something with auto focus like the Sony A7S III (which I also own), The Pocket 4K is a Cinema Camera, it is designed for movies and documentaries. If that is the content you would be shooting, it’s perfect and I don’t think you can beat the image. But tracking a moving subject on the run with manual focus and a shallow depth of field is nearly impossible, If you’ve seen any professional American football games recently, many of them have gone to using a Sony auto focus SLR on a gimbal for their guy on the field camera (use to be a full steady cam rig). In these buttery shots you see the shallow depth of field and the auto focus at work.
The camera is a little higher than mine does when I mount it. Do you have a plate in the back that brings it higher? Ive seen the arca plate is a little problematic if you use the full cage on it. Can you make a video of you assembling it? This is the best video out there explaining the set up but there’s no assembly.
I had a small rig cheese plate between the P4K and the arca plate. Now I have the P4k in a half Tilta Cage which accomplishes the same thing as the cheese plate.
Hi Can you power the raven eye only with the gimbal or you can power the raven eye separately as well so you don’t use the battery on your rs2 as much ?!
Levy, Yes! Great point that we missed on the video. We had a shoot yesterday with the RaveEye fully charged before hand and had much better battery results. Had the gimble on or running for around 3.5 - 4 hours and still had more than half the battery left.
For most situations where battery switch outs are not a problem, I just use the internal batteries. If I need to make sure I have long takes available, I use a juice box attached to the gimbal.
@@skyvistaproductions118 Will the battery grip from Blackmagic Design for the P4K be a good alternative? and wouldn't it add additional weight to the RS2 setup that might be a problem for the gimbal?
@@chikisstudios4957 , the battery grip would put more weight on the motor - we use the Juicebox because it can mount onto the gimble, rather than the camera. So, while there is extra weight, it is not weight on the gimble motor, just on your arms.

Alex, The 3-D focus system isn’t available yet. But, yes, it is my understanding it will not work with the Sigma because it does not have hard stops on the focus ring.
@@skyvistaproductions118 My mistake, I believe i phrased the question wrong. How is the focus system working with your sigma lens? You have it on in the video correct?
Hey I have the Panasonic Lumix 12-35 for the BMPCC4k and I was thinking of selling it for the Sigma 18-35m. Is there a difference or should I keep the Panasonic? Every-time I see the image quality with sigma it just looks a lot better!
It’s sharper, allows more depth, a very nice lens without question. I personally don’t like it that sharp. That being said, 12-35 is very sharp and has OK depth. I throw on a tiffen bpm and it looks amazing
We have the Lumix 12-35. I personally prefer the Sigma. I agree the Sigma is sharper and better depth but also a lot heavier. Maybe borrow or rent one to see what you think.
SkyVista Productions that’s also very true! I’m mainly looking for a lens that is cinematic! The lumix works but when I watched your shorts, the Sigma looks really good! The look feels a lot more cinematic. But of course, a lot of it also depends on the filmmaker!

Looks like you guys have the same wobble problem mine has. My Ronin 1 and osmo x5 are smoother than this gimbal. I’ve tried everything to make it smoother with no luck. (calibrated perfectly balanced everything says it’s perfect) I even gave it to a friend who uses the S every day and he even got the same results and was stumped. It’s been two weeks and DJI has not wrote me back yet. 🙄
Nue Vue, I see the wobble too, but it seemed acceptable to me given the movement. It seems its evident during walking or running. Those tiny wobbles are fixed easily in Resolve. The Ronin 1 is huge and the osmo has almost no payload on it. I'm satisfied given the size of the gimble and the payload. I can tell you that I did a recent shoot and switched lenses midway though and only thought I needed to balance the front to back with the little wheel. I didn't notice during the rest of the shoot but the wobble was horrible (and nearly unusable even with stabilization in post). After looking at the footage I checked the balance and it was actually needed on all the axis. After rebalancing, the footage looked fine to me. Maybe my standard is too low but it seems reasonable for a little wobble to occur given the size to payload ratio. I'm looking forward to the Tilta steadicam arm to smooth it out even more.

Looking for an upgrade but I'm not convinced yet... But your review was spot on! :)
Yeah, I need to do some follow up tests. Balance needs to be spot on. Might do an update if I can get rid of the wobble.
Do you power the camera from the gimbal?
No, we either use internal batteries for short shoots or a Juicebox battery for long shoots.
nice video. thanks. my question is Can it control blackmagic 4k to record and stop?
Yes, if you plug it into the USB C port.
@SkyVistaProductions
QQ: do you need the focus motor in order to use auto-focus with your sigma lens?
I would assume the 3D focus system is not available yet. So Raveneye requires your focus motor in order to auto-focus your sigma lens? do you need to adjust any additional settings in the RS2 gimbal? thanks
Yes, you need the focus motor for the Sigma (unless you use your hand to adjust focus).
What base plate do you use? My bmpcc 4k doesn't fit on my rs2....
Used a SmallRig cheese plate.
great video ... are you planning to do a setup vid?
Bernt, did you get it figured out? Just make sure you are in the right output from the RS2 (and then into the P4K USBC).
How do you power the bmpcc4k. I have a huge battery but im sure the ra2 wont hold its weight up
I have a Juicebox mouted to the gimble handle.
Hi, can you Power up the BMPCC 4k with RS2?
yea nobody talks about this
No, you cannot. We use internal batts for short takes and Juicebox for longer.
What if i attach coreswx external battery u know battery sucks is it able to work smoothly
Haven’t tried it yet. Keep in mind that there was no stabilization in camera, lens or post. The Resolve stabilization would clean that right up!

One question. If I do want to use a T5 external drive and use up the usb-c port, what would I be sacrificing in regards of camera control?
Record start and stop, and maybe ISO?
How about the autofocus dongle that you can mount on top of the camera, is it still gonna be able to be put in breavecase mode? And/Or 360 roll?
Yeah, good question. I’m gonna get it when it’s available and I’ll let you know.
@@skyvistaproductions118 thx for your fast response
So can I use the active track and phone monitoring even though my samsung drive is using the usb C port?
@@skyvistaproductions118 Thank you very much for clearing this out for me!!!
When putting the bmpcc 4k onto the rs2, do you put it all the way in or do you leave part of the baseplate thing hanging? Cuz whenever I try to put all the way, the camera would be hitting the motor/side of rs2.
I have it all the way over but I’m using a SmallRig cheese plate to offset the camera.
Hey man, I just got the RS2 for my BMPCC6k + Sigma 18-35. I balance it perfectly and calibrate, but I see a lot of jitters on my footage. How would you recommend getting rid of those while filming?
You can't even on the sample footage the gimbal isn't performing well. Sell BMPCC6k and lens and get a sony a7siii with some OSS lens.
@@lysander2136 absolutely incorrect.
I'd recommend something in the 16 to 50mm range for a gimble.
which is the ssd holder? Can you send me the link? Thanks and really nice video!
I would like it too ! I don't want to buy a full SmallRig for just a SSD 😥
so how do you work arround the 10 min. batterylife on the Pocket?
If you're really only getting 10 minutes, get real cannon batteries. For most gimble work, a battery swap is not a big deal (25-30 mins). For longer shoots, we hook up a juicebox for over two hours record time.
Have you tried using with cage
Lot of people using counter weight and lot of not. I am little confused weather it needs counter weight or not ?
Just ordered a half cage. I'll let you know. I'm thinking no counterweight will be needed.
Can you adjust the speed when in FORCE MOBILE mode? Seems a bit twitchy.
Yes!

Hi
Can you power the raven eye only with the gimbal or you can power the raven eye separately as well so you don’t use the battery on your rs2 as much ?!
Levy, Yes! Great point that we missed on the video. We had a shoot yesterday with the RaveEye fully charged before hand and had much better battery results. Had the gimble on or running for around 3.5 - 4 hours and still had more than half the battery left.
Since the RS2 can't be used to power the BMPCC4K, what battery solutions do you recommend ?

Erik Dabrowski okay sounds good! Thanks!

This is my first DJI but o’ kit. I found the folder plugging my iPhone into my Mac, but it’s not editable. And haven’t found another way.
I have not, but I think it will work to add the LUT to the P4K - i.e., it will show up on your phone's monitor.
