In today's episode I do not decide to talk about Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes, Mclaren or Aston Martin. Instead im diving down the rabbit hole of the French disgrace, a.k.a Alpine. The only Renault powered team on the grid that has been an abomination to their own fans. A disgrace after their former glory. A team which could compete against Michael Schumacher and Ferrari combo. All with the Renault r25 and Fernando Alonso. Alpine has plummeted to the ground with questionable team management, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly not being able to get along and a car that can be mistaken for a bicycle. Its no longer a world champion winning team in F1, instead Alpine has pulled off the biggest fall from grace in Formula 1 history. What a sad joke.
However, this video takes an interesting tone near the end.

They legally can't. The FIA put new safety regulations about the roll hops for this season, so they can't use the 2023 car unless they completly redesign the entire cockpit sections of the car which at that point is counterproductive.
I am 100% sure if there wasn't the change of safety regulation they would have used the 2023 car until they fixed the 2024 one.

Szafnauer was/is a really good team principal. He gave them fourth in 2022 despite the civil war between Fernando Alonso and le tueur de coéquipier (look it up), and in 2023, exactly what was he doing wrong? Sure, he was a horrid driver manager, but good elsewhere. I mean, he was team principal of Aston Martin back when they were Force India with a severely limited "budget" and still almost won two races!

@@grugruuEngine development isn't allowed for performance gains. Only reliability/safety modifications are allowed. Freeze started in 2022 and will end for 2026 season.

As much as Fernando departure from Alpine was kinda fault from Otmar, it's a also a fault from the upper management in that year since, iirc, they offered Fernando a one year contract in F1 + the following year in the WEC with Team Alpine whereas Fernando wanted a multi-year contract in F1 and that's exactly what Aston Martin gave him. But the Piastri thing was a masterpiece from both Piastri and his manager, one fella named Mark Webber which you may know him. Also, Alonso and Webber are friends so they may have all planned to leave Alpine in the dust between the three lmao.
When I saw Gasly retire from Saudi Arabia before the first lap even ended, I remembered the fact that this team has 4 WDCs and 3 WCCs, and then I cried

I rember as a kid loving Reanult becausr of the colors (that sky blues and yellow was dope) and because of Alonso. For some reason I started to watch F1 contento recently again and while diggin up I was shock to what happened with Renault, bit I always likes to support the underdog, so I will go with Alpine or Williams as my team, I still have to decide. Please please please make video about alonso’s career, why he left renault after two world championships, what happened between him and Hamilton, his involvement with crashgate, him replacing Räikkönen, why it didn’t work out with mclaren, his accomplishments in other motor sports… as a new fan to formula, it seems his career is the most interesting to follow :)))
Alonso took the bait at mclaren in 2007. They hired him to have him in control hence all what they did to help Hamilton that season, thankfully that plan didnt worked out and Kimi got the championship.
Crashgate is fishy stuff like Briatore did from time to time like when he was with Schumacher, Michael learned a lot of bad stuff from him. Thankfully Alonso didnt followed his path. It was so pointless, that car wasnt competitive to fight championship. It was all about Piquet and Briatore trying to keep Piquet in car another year.
Second time in Mclaren didnt worked out because it was a team in decadence, most of the valuable people moved to mercedes before. Rules limiting any meaningfull development didnt helped either.

I may be American, and I may have joined the sport in 2020, but I know every single champion as far back as 1974, when Emerson Fittipaldi won the title for McLaren. I know the winner of every race as far back as the last 4 races of 2015, and then other patches of several years as well

Alpine fan here. I will give my 2 cents, because i disagree with alot of what was said in this video, but i agree with the main point of it.
Yes, our downfall was mainly a management problem. I also dont understand how one of the biggest car companies in the world is not able to produce a reliable and fast engine. I hope that in 2026 we will be atleast equal with the others.
However, i dont lose the feeling that Otmar was responsible for alot of it.
How is it, that since he came, the team became less competitive every year and we have lost two capable drivers since (which i blame also Rossi for) ? We were strong in 22, after Budkowski left. We lost two drivers (which i blame also Rossi for), became worse. And now look in the shit we‘re in. And i blame him for that too. Apparently they were working on the car since 22, so Otmar had to oversee most of the development. They too many risks with the new design, changed alot of parts. Has it helped ? It helped us being a mockery of an F1 team now. And it really hurts us Alpine fans.
However: Its not Ocons and Gaslys fault. They are not best friends. But they are being professional about it - much l
more than with Ocon and Alonso - and not terrorising each other on track. Im not sure where you got that from, because when they crashed each other, it was usually unlucky (could have crashed with anyone in Melbourne) or a simple racing incident like last week in Suzuka.
And even if they had not crashed - we would still have ended up on P6 in the constructors ranking.
Sure, firing Otmar mid season is a risky move. But im glad they did it.
Bruno Famin is someone who is giving us Alpine fans some hope. He gives us the feeling that he knows how to turn things around. He is realistic and honest (i mean, after all Szafnauer and Rossi claimed we would be fighting with Merc and Ferrari last year, which was never true).
He has changed and created alot of positions. I know there were alot of changes. But they all had to happen.
So i do believe we will get back into the points and i do believe we will reach P6 again. Bur i hope for more next year.

I think one of the main issues until recently (when f1 became big money) was a lack of commitment to a name, and even investment at all, constantly potentially pulling out of engines, teams, etc. and flubbing 2014 as well.

Keep in mind that Alpine can trace its roots to a Lotus team that nearly bankrupted itself by giving Kimi a 50k bonus for every point he scored. He scored 394 points in the two years he was at Lotus-Renault. It's not a team that has a history of sound upper management decision making.
crazy to also think that schumi also won his first 2 world titles with this team. they suffer from a lack of investment and vision and it’s crazy. Essentially Lotus almost went bankrupt cause of kimi. then the team suffered for a couple years as it severely lacked investment. renault buys it and decides that it can win races on a smaller budget than the bigger teams. theyre solution to underinvestment was further underinvestment. they’re so smart. gotta love renault.
I’m surprised you didn’t include the Benetton days, they won championships with Schumacher and some GPs afterward. Because the team pretty much went straight to the trash right after Alonso’s second championship.

Fernando didn't left alpine, he was bullied out by papa snufuafufauweger saying he was old, they didn't want to renew alonso contract, etc etc... so he (Alonso) reached out to AM.
Now they are happy because the entire team is french and they are the worst team of 2024, a true happy ending for everyone!

I think you missed a few points, Alpine/Renault have been seriously underfunding their F1 team before and even after the Budget cap was introduced. And secondly Alpine cannot just let a team Principal run the team, they have to interfere and make BS decisions because of interfering executives who want results NOW, which as we all know (unless your Aston Martin or McLaren) Can't happen within 6 months. And from what Otmar has spoken in interviews they are still under funding the team by between 10-12mil.

This was a fun one haha you know all things considered. Cyril was always the linchpin for me. His movement marked the evolution of the bureaucracy at play being the only fully state operated team. The moment as things got more political and the investment into the sport came under scrutiny, more chefs in the kitchen started ruining the final dish.
Alpines downfall really started when the most talented rookie (Papi Alonso) left.
I still remember that Renault car and Alonso's first season, that season was legit cracked
