Living in the area, Durham USED to have a crime problem, but it’s been revitalized now and fun to go to. Very walkable and lots of independent restaurants.

I lived in Raleigh for 14 years. The dating life is not all that. As for needing a car, you really do need a car in Raleigh. I spend so much cab fare living here. Their buses are not the bus at all. I stayed in Durham for 14 years before I moved to Raleigh. Yes, the crime there is getting out of hand. However, when I moved to Durham in the 90s and I loved it there. Although, there was some stuff going on there (just like any other city) I felt safe there. It felt like home to me. I met a lot of cool people there. To me, the crime started to get worst in the 2000s. Another thing, I know racism is everywhere but Raleigh is full racist here. You will notice it. Especially, on some of these jobs. I have never been to Charlotte before but I heard the good and the bad. What turned me off from checking out Charlotte I heard there is a lot of crime there also. I know that to be true because I did my research. It was on the news how some bus drivers said they did not feel safe driving the buses in Charlotte. However, I also heard it's big and you have to be careful with certain parts of Charlotte.
Planning to move to Raleigh from Chicago. Do you think I can buy a single family new construction home (3 beds, 2 bath) around Raleigh area within 300 K? Or is it not feasible with that budget? Thanks.
Being raised in Atlanta at this stage in life I would do Raleigh over Charlotte. It's just preference. Charlotte is great but I can shoot over there for a weekend and come back to where it's quiet. Both cities are growing and I know blacks doing well in both. I often wonder how Charlotte feels by being called "a smaller Atlanta" all these years lol

I'm from NC....went to college in Raleigh...and right after college....I landed a job in RTP. Then I moved to Miami, FL ( 14 yrs) just moved back to NC and I picked Charlotte, because I never lived here and I always liked it driving thru going to ATL for the weekends. Charlotte is better to my style....coming from Miami, FL.

Thank you. But at the same time Raleigh is still growing at a healthy pace too. Raleigh and Charlotte top each other in certain areas. One minute Raleigh may rank higher in something next minute its Charlotte ranking higher in something. Give the RDU area time to attract more amenities/entertainment. It'll get where Charlotte is. I love all of the North Carolina cities/metros. Even the Eastern Region of the state (where I am) I love it. This is the states most rural/agricultural section of the state. I'm in Greenville NC where East Carolina University is. Basically what I am trying to say is each city is growing at a different pace.
Hi. Just discovered your page today while considering a move to the Raleigh area. You make many good points that I'm struggling with. I'm originally from Detroit, and don't necessarily miss that "big urban city" vibe, but I do want bigger and more than what I currently have in South Bend, Indiana (Notre Dame). Not much culturally or socially for black people and especially single black professionals. That being said, I'm 40 and single, so I want a good vibe, but I don't need to party ALL THE TIME. Ngozi mentioned Raleigh being for families...so that is good and bad for someone in my situation. I like living in a quiet, safe neighborhood, but would also like to have access (even driving) to some fun when I'm in the mood. Where I am, it's also great for families and college kids and very affordable (my mortgage is under $700 w/escrow), but there's nothing for women like me to do and the weather SUCKS! Also, a consideration...living in small town midwest is much cheaper so it's hard to take a financial leap with housing costs as they are in Raleigh, but I don't want to hinder myself by that and regret it in the long run. I don't want to continue to live here cuz it's cheap and comfortable, but be miserable. I fully understand that it costs more to live in more desirable areas. So, IDK if you can pull anything out from what I've said, but do you think Raleigh or Charlotte would be better? I'd like affordability, social life, dating, access to more Black people and culture, and the ability to live in a nice area (preferably owning in order to be more cost effective), but also be able to get out and have a good time without having to drive to a big city 2-3 hours away! Sorry this is so long...Whew!
Thanks for watching! Ok lets pick this apart. You mentioned affordability, social scene etc. I think Raleigh is a good move for you. Its slower than clt but isnt slow. Its developing rapidly and housing is pretty affordable. Clt is good but def costlier and more of a city vibe. I think raleigh will still be a step above south bend in terms of black professionals, social life etc. Clt may be too drastic of a transition but if your from detroit your familiar with city life. Hope this helps 😀
@@EJIMANnenaNgozi Thank you. Yes, I'm familiar with big city life but not 40 year old big city life. You feel me? But I appreciate it. I do like the calmness sometimes and not looking for a drastic change. Just a lil more diversity and better weather of course! I have family in Savannah, GA and like it there too but its similar in size to SB and kinda touristy. Have u been there?
No i havent been to savannah, GA but i think its a fair comparison. About 3-4 hrs from atl. Raleigh is 2-3 hrs from clt. I didnt get a slow vibe in raleigh. However, in atl i still felt the slower pace even though atl is a metropolitan city. Hope this helps.
@Deandra, you could live in a neighboring city to Charlotte and commute when you want to go out. Your best bet would be to visit some areas to get a feel of the environment.

Charlotte isn’t really walkable. I’ve taken public transportation here once and it was complicated and a terrible experience. If you live somewhere like Midtown or Southend, then yes, things are more accessible. But for the most part, you will need to hop on the highway to get anywhere, even Uptown. Dating here has sucked in my experiences. The food is wonderful. There is a pretty laid back energy here and the shopping malls & shopping centers are great. However, some of the things that made the city seem lit are changing. For example, the EpiCenter, which was full of restaurants, bars, and stores, is being turned into offices. The city is very spread out and is made up of several small towns and communities.
My prayer for you this day is that before you call one, hundreds will arise to favour you. I see people falling over themselves to divinely favour you. As you keep trusting the Lord, He will favour you and elevate you to heights beyond your imagination Have a super pleasant day.
I have lived in both and surely say Charlotte, NC has more resources , jobs, entertainment, friendly people and the list goes on. Raleigh has its perks when looking at the pay scale Raleigh has more jobs that pay higher oddly, a large city yet slow, much colder. To me Raleigh is dirtier than Charlotte.
@@EJIMANnenaNgozi that's why you go find out things for yourself. Just because things didn't go well for them does not mean the same will happen to you.
Raleigh is my first choice and the DMV is second. Mainly because of the biotech/pharma industry and also the education. North carolina and also Virginia to me have great colleges. If my kids want to attend a HBCU they can do that. A more diverse school they can do that. You can't beat in state tuition. I just feel that DC is so expensive and I don't want to live in a city in Maryland where the schools aren't quality. Right now we live in MInnesota and while i like it. I miss being around blacks on an everyday basis. Being in a white suburb and sometimes being the only black in a store is not a good feeling. I want my kids to be around blacks. To see a black doctor, a black dentist. a black teacher. That's important to me. Which one would you prefer based on job market, education- K- college, things to do for fun. One thing that worries me is Raleigh has no casinos or beachers near by. Im not used to having to drive 2 hours to hit up a beach. EVen when i lived in PHilly we had Atlantic city an hour away.
I can definitely relate! I made a few appointments this week and was easily able to get black female doctors. DMV is very expensive, but Maryland has many nice black communities. If you want good weather I say Raleigh!
Checkout Howard County, MD Best public schools in the DMV, Columbia, Fulton and Ellicott City are in Howard County and always make best places to live .Its a suburb of DC and Baltimore
I wish I could tell you my hometown of San diego, Ca for 20-30mins to any closeby casino 🎰 and no more than 15mins or less to a beach 🏖🙂. 🤷🏾♀️😔 But, if you dont have a good job lined up and buy property on the outskits of sd or u family that has owned/paid off property. 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ Its DEAD ASS, EXPENSIVE not as much as san francisco & patches of black folks left here, I wish some black doctors and teachers 👨🏾🏫 would come here to work. 😜🙂🤸🏾♀️🙌🏾😉👌🏾

@@shalontehernandez6752 Raleigh is super spread out with multiple cities and small towns around it and I have to admit Raleigh sucks when it comes to transportation now we have a ok bus system but for a metro it's size we should have already had light rail, now we have a Rapid Bus System and Commuter Rail on the way but it take time to build out those systems, we have call centers here but I wouldn't a lot as far as Places to live wake Forest rd area, North Raleigh.

Living in the area, Durham USED to have a crime problem, but it’s been revitalized now and fun to go to. Very walkable and lots of independent restaurants.
I heard Durham has alot of gangs. Does revitalized mean gentrified?
@@EJIMANnenaNgozi the revitalization I was referring to was just downtown with all of the commercial property. As for gentrification, I cannot give an accurate answer on that.
@@EJIMANnenaNgozi Durham does have a lot of Gangs there. It has gotten worst over the years. There is a lot of drive-by shootings. I hate that because I used to stayed in Durham and loved it there. I don't even want to go back there to live. So, that says a lot. That's one of the reasons I moved from Durham because of my son. Is to get him out of Durham.
Gentrified BIG TIME. Lot of condos popping up downtown, lot of young preppy professionals pouring on in because it’s cheaper than Raleigh proper. Performing arts center and the baseball field solidified it. People are getting priced out.
There are things to do in Raleigh Durham as well. Charlotte is just a bigger city with more entertainment options.

they both good city but charlotte more metro charlotte have a bigger skyline but raliegh good also but charlotte is better for blacks
I agree because I remember visiting Raliegh and it didn't seem too black folk friendly there. In fact it reminded me of a southern version of Sacramento tbh
I’am so stuck between Texas & North Carolina! But I strongly know that both areas are wonderful compared to where i’am & I can’t wait to get outta here 😩
Yes they are both popular choices. I dont think you can go wrong with either. Where are you living now? Which parts of TX and NC are you looking into?
@@EJIMANnenaNgozi i’am from Philadelphia! Which is not a great city at all anymore. The school system suck & it’s too much Violence! It’s just not life here but the ugly in my opinion. I heard all my life that down south was nice areas to raise children, good jobs, more peaceful, cleaner just better living overall. So I been researching and reading a-lot too. My next steps is to visit both areas. I’m looking into Charlotte North Carolina & Dallas/Houston Texas. My bf wants us to move to Texas.
@@BrandyyMack Yes philadelphia is a no go! We went to undergrad there and ran away immediately. Yes I would suggest visiting both first. Good luck with your move!
@@BrandyyMack..I've moved from Michigan to TX 13 yrs ago and have lived in several Texas cities. If you want a nice clean fairly safe family oriented place to live, that's any suburb if Austin hands down. Dallas comes in second to Austin for what you're looking for imo
Have you seen our best cities for black single women? We put Austin in it and got alot of disagreement.
Yes the part you are in is very important. Goes for any big city. Thanks for watching 😀
Great video ladies . Looking forward to to my move to Charlotte
If you’ve never really been to Raleigh-Durham, how can you compare it?….
What about living in Asheboro or Greensboro or High Point,NC Citys????
What about living in Winston Salem NC????
Ive been told this but driving through some
It seems too rural for me. Remember Im coming from the NYC metropolitan area. Thanks for watching 😀
Planning to move to Raleigh from Chicago. Do you think I can buy a single family new construction home (3 beds, 2 bath) around Raleigh area within 300 K? Or is it not feasible with that budget? Thanks.
Hmmm I’m not sure. Sounds a bit low to be honest for new construction. Unless you plan on living outside of Raleigh.
I’m considering to move to raeligh thanks for that
Thanks for this, super helpful! I've been considering relocating to Charlotte! 😊

Wgy'd you leave miami?
I'm leaving Coral Springs 20 min from ft lauderdale and moving to either charlotte or Raleigh
I agree vibes and energy is very important.

Charlotte has more amenities & Raleigh is a lil slower .
That’s what l perfer slower l love Raleigh

I’m stuck between Raleigh, NC and Houston, TX. I’m moving from upstate NY. The dating scene seems to be better in Raleigh though.
Youll be fine with any move!
chile don't go to Texas looking for a (straight) man
Charlotte isn’t really walkable.
You are correct! Charlotte is only walkable if you live in the uptown area. I take the highway daily to work for a 10 min commute. Dating hmmm lol.
My prayer for you this day is that before you call one, hundreds will arise to favour you. I see people falling over themselves to divinely favour you. As you keep trusting the Lord, He will favour you and elevate you to heights beyond your imagination Have a super pleasant day.
charlotte have bigger black population than raliegh
Ok. This makes sense because Charlotte is bigger. But I think Raleigh has more Black professionals.

@@EJIMANnenaNgozi Raleigh isn't a major city
Love this video and both perspectives 🙌🏽❤️
But, if you dont have a good job lined up and buy property on the outskits of sd or u family that has owned/paid off property. 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ Its DEAD ASS, EXPENSIVE not as much as san francisco & patches of black folks left here, I wish some black doctors and teachers 👨🏾🏫 would come here to work. 😜🙂🤸🏾♀️🙌🏾😉👌🏾
DMV is wild. I live in the dmv and for 1640 a month for my 1br, I can be doing much more in the south.
Charlotte and Raleigh is a 2 and a half hour drive.. you said 7 in the beginning
The NHL Keeps Raleigh, Not Charlotte
Charlotte got Optmist Hall, South End, Southpark, Noda, Plaza Midwood, Ballentyne, Uptown, and University City so you got things to do and black people in all areas

Charlotte has a lot of Crime, also in the surrounding areas. Then there is in Raleigh and the surrounding areas.
Charlotte school system is rated D, on a website name, AreaVibes.
The housing market is pretty expensive, however it is cheaper than DC.
If you are coming down expecting some Southern Hospitality, it's mainly gone,☹️ because most of the people in Charlotte are from The North.
If your relocating from DC you are going to want to live in either Steele Creek or Huntersville. Pockets of AA.
Half of Charlotte is black statistically
