after you have (4,2) empty the jug of 3 litters on the ground and you will remain with (4,0) and then pour water from jug of 4 litters which is full into jug of 3 litters which is empty .... the 3 litter jug will be full and you will remain with 1 litter in the jug of 4 litters (1,3)
