Great shot but if you stop and start the video, you will see it's still in his hand when the clock hits Zero. I had to stop and start it from different areas a few times before I saw the zero on the clock and the ball still in his hand.

@@lemontadams3029 get on a computer, pause the video using K on the board, comma and period let you jog through the video frame by frame. You can clearly see the ball still in his hands when time runs out and the end of period lights turn on around the backboard. The buzzer and EOP are all tied to the same coax data and illuminate within milliseconds of actually hitting zero on the clock.
I did the same thing. It's almost like the clock froze at 0.2 seconds and then the buzzer sounded.
I thought it was no good in real time. Slowed it down and got confirmation that it was still in his hands when clock hit 0.00

This is true. However, the horn ends the period not necessarily the clock. I mean it’s supposed to be the clock, but I’ve seen and officiated games where there is a slight delay between all zeroes on the clock and the horn sounding.

That said, reading through the comments it is mind boggling that this is up for debate. If you didn't know, you can advance the video by 1 frame by pressing "." (and you can go back a frame by pressing ","). In doing so you can clearly see the frame when the clock hits 0 by looking at the red lights on the backboard, and the ball is clearly in his hands by his head. Not to mention the fact that the clock started extremely late.

...I don't understand, what's the point of the clock then if it doesn't determine precisely when the game ends? It's the VISIBLE thing that players/coaches can see ahead of time to base decisions off of.
More importantly, why aren't all 3 things synchronized (clock, red light, buzzer) to go off at the same time? That's a big problem likely to lead to controversy if they're staggered.
@yassarjordan8224 The point of the game clock is to regulate game time. The RULE of basketball is the BUZZER ends the game. I just googled it, and there is some debate. But the rule has been that the sound of the buzzer ends the game. Maybe I'm completely wrong . 🤷♂️
Yes. That School did not synchronize their Red Light with the Game Clock. Now, the AIA has Shot clocks in Basketball. The refs counted that correctly. You make a great point.

He barely got the shot off. It looks to me that the red light around the backboard went on a millisecond early. The clock was changing to 0:00. When the clock was fully changed to 0:00 the shot was away from the player's hand.

ok, this is a three-man officiating crew. before the ball was put into play, they should have confirmed who had responsibility for any potential last-second shot based on where the shot originates. imho, the lead official at 0:00 (white hair, nearest to camera) immediately becomes the trail official when the ball is deflected at 0:04. and since he is the nearest official to the shot (and the only official in the backcourt), he should have assumed responsibility for determining if the shot was released in time. however, for some reason, he proceeded toward the endline out-of-camera and never recovered to a proper position to make the call. at 0:06, it is rather obvious that both of the other officials' views are blocked by players and they do not have an unimpeded line-of-sight to the shooter. bottom line is the hometown crowd made the call on this play.

The right thing to do would be for the referees to contact the school ADs that evening and tell both that in fairness to the winning team, he didn't get the shot off in time. You can't do much when the gym is in chaos - it wouldn't even be safe. But that night or the following day, you do the right thing.
He absolutely got that shot off in time, I can pause it after the ball has left his hands and there's still 5 seconds left, the ball comes out quick and it's kinda hard to see and he gets hella arc on it so goes out of frame for a second
I paused it when the ball is leaving his fingers, and the backboard lights (usually not a high school fixture) were already red, signifying the buzzer. But we can disagree. I definitely couldn't make the shot he made, and I don't want to go on YT and be full of negativity. I comment on stuff just to hear myself think, and I appreciate the occasional thumbs up.
