I think the burnout we feel in our careers is a normal thing. Once we hit a ceiling in our careers and it starts to get predictable and the same thing every day, the depression starts to set in. Every time I start feeling like that I start looking for other jobs. It typically happens around the 5 year mark. Even if it is the same position at another company a change of scenery helps the mind a lot.

Change of scenery and people makes a big difference. The company I'm at now I just recently started and it seems really good. I feel the depression and burnout fading and I'm happy again. My favorite part of your channel is just the realness of it. I'm glad there is not a lot of screaming and going crazy over a simple ex card. The realness of the channel is what I like the best.

Phil, i really enjoy your videos and i am seeing you as an example on how to do this hobby right. I think you can‘t change that in the beginning you try to Make videos which your audience enjoys even though you dont necessarily want to do it at that time. You are getting in the area where you Build up your audience and people like me just watch to enjoy and hang out, even if one video doesnt Spar the biggest interest. Keep up the good work!
Honestly, having a hobby like collecting pokemon cards helps out a bit. Takes you out of the norm of working mindset, and gives nostalgia of opening cards when you were young.
I think that for me personally and for a lot of others if you were to make content on other tcgs on the channel we would still watch. Of course there is going to be people who click off or leave but there will also be a ton of new people and new communities that can get introduced to other tcgs while still getting to enjoy the content you make and the advice you offer.
Really really really liked that down to earth conversation (is it a conversation if only one person is talking?) that you had while opening packs. Really enjoyed this style of content man, keep it up. You’re right about working to death, I want to escape it too. Good luck, I’ll be supporting your channel and you.

You should do a stellar crown opening. That was the first booster box I opened in a long time and it is so much fun to open. The pull rates are definitely better than the last few sets.

The ninetails is gorgeous! Too bad you didnt pull it, but hey! CHARIZARD! I remember buying the charizard for 90 bucks and a vivid voltage etb 😅 it was this lesson that taught me never to buy cards at their height, and never to buy cards in general.
Obsidian flames sold out at Aus distro before any other set including Paldea Evolved which released before Obsidian. I also sell Obsidian booster boxes for more than any other SV set currently. Yes the value of the cards are low and it will hinder its future growth but sales data tells me the set is much more popular than people think. Always look at data rather than opinions 🙂

As you said, we need to enjoy what we are doing in order to continue doing it. Every now and then, I think it would be good to show your lobe for other TCGs. Sure it may not get as many views as Pokemon videos, but what matters is the passion to keep things going.

I really like Obsidian Flames - I'm doing a master set and going after every promo or connected promo. I think the thing that was a missed opportunity for this set is the range of SRs and SARs etc, we have pack art for Dragonite and Tyranitar but we only get the etched EXs - could have had 2 awesome full arts there. Same with some of the promo cards, we get 4 stamped Umbreons but not an EX or any full arts, Darkrai too in the halloween set and has a cosmos holo in an Australian tin - both feel like they fit the theme really well but didn't get anything that special. The funny thing about Obsidian is that its not over yet... we still have cosmos holos and connected promos releasing and due to be released all the way to the end of the year and maybe beyond? 2 of the Shrouded Fable boxes had Obsidian cosmos holos and I've stashed the Greninja and Kingambit in my binder too.
I personally think it’s a great set. Lovely illustration rares. Lower card prices and a smaller set compared to other SV which makes it a little more accessible for smaller collectors
I'm a mom of 3. I grew up on Pokemon, and I still collect cause it brings me so much joy and I never have to leave my house lol...but I love being a mom so much, I don't like leaving my kids for long periods of time. I'm just a homebody who likes Pokemon #nerdlife 🤓
It's not a horrible set, but it's literally the most common set, with the best pull rates, that has definitely been printed the most. That's what makes it a bad set, unfortunately.

Covering more historical arcs of pokemon and yu gi oh- the eras, the franchise at the time, how the sets performed then and now, best arts in your opinion, most iconic cards. Or closer looks on more obscure promos and release information, print numbers, historical relevance. Common theme being “under appreciated/untold stories”! I feel like your perspective and opinions would add some nice value over the “facts” of what’s being presented.
Personally, I'm a charizard fan, and I just really wanted to set to come out for that character. It's not the most valuable set, but for nostalgic reasons, I loved it.
I don’t think it was so much the Charizard fatigue as the fact that the hit rates don’t give enough incentive for the chase. Also, it would not surprise me if Pokémon, reprinted it even if it doesn’t need it reprint. I mean, after all, they reprinted battle styles when nobody asked for that.
I really don't understand why people don't like OBF. It's sad that so many streamers and people with big money tore this set into oblivion. The market is flooded with these cards and because they are devalued people think the set in whole is trash. But to someone like me that will be lucky to open 2 or 3 booster boxes, this set has a lot of gen 1 and 2 chases!

With sets like pokemon go, emerging powers, darkness ablaze, crimson invasion, etc... we can safely say its a lower tier set but not in discussion for worst all time.
I actually think this set gets too much hate . So many good IRs, and a few really good SIRs. Love the pidgey line, gloom, ninetales, Zard. Some of the cards seem under valued for how good they are .
i love Obsidian Flames, feel like this is a sleeper set. I like the Charizard cards, the pigdey cards are awesome, ninetails is awesome, you can get your money back by grading 1 or 2 of these cards as a 10, Paradox Rift is terrible imo
The ninetails and cleffa are my two favorite art pieces of this set and I got the Japanese cleffa but then again don’t really have the budget to look for the ninetails 😂
I actually like Shrouded Fable and Obsidian Flames lol. I think Twilight Masquerade, Paradox Rift, and Stellar Crown are more subpar in my (unpopular) opinion 😅

Obsidian flames was overhyped af. Will it grow in value eventually? Yes. Does it have some solid charizards? Yes. Are those charizards top cards in Scarlet & Violet? Absolutely not and it's not even close lol.
I think Stella crown has helped obsidian flames etbs being sold as they want the charmander promo to go with the squirtle and bulbasaur card I think if they put it as a chase card like Stella crown more product would be open and tbh I no it has not a lot of value but I think you have to have the main charizard to go with the paldean fates zard and that is really high priced and doesn’t seem to be to different tbh I like obsidian flames if you take away money value I loved chasing all the zards n completing them and actually being able to rip all packs to complete a set rather than having to buy singles with paldean fates because it just can’t be done unless spending thousands to get all baby shineys I gave it ago but had way to many dupes never want to see a paldean students or a wigtrio again in my life lol 😂😂
Definitely not so many sets are already better than obsidian flames like paldean fates, stellar crown, twilight masquerade, 151, temporal forces and we still have a lot of sets to go in S&V, S&V is a underrated generation of cards obsidian flames will be seen as S&V's darkness ablaze but obsidian flames is better than darkness ablaze
