Yeah, but the explanation is the same. It's all electricity, the difference between a regular human/saiyan/namekian/etc and a super saiyan is the electric potential achieved and the physical transformation undergone. In normal form, Goku can generate large electric charges in his body and use them to fly, shoot plasma, and such; in super saiyan form, he can generate _immense_ electric charges in his body and do all that.
I appreciate and understand this approach, and it makes for some great refreshingly new content; but, I'd still really like an episode of this talking about all the real life phenomena behind the aspects like strength, endurance, vigor, and so on. For me, I always think about the "mom strength" situation, like in those stories about mothers suddenly being able to physically "overclock" in order to save their children by performing some impressive feats. To me, such incidents are the ones that most closely follow the patterns and limitations of the earlier transformations from the show (Kai-O-Ken and the very first official instance of the proper SS transition). When you start to look at the later transformations, too, I think you start to see similarities to real life feats like the ones a lot of monks perform. I just don't think there is enough honest scientific research and speculation regarding what is really going on in some of these bodies during some of these situations. I mean, we can apparently track what is traditionally called "ki" by using certain legit equipment, but I've never heard more about that. Either those reports are hoaxes, or existing biases have just led to a lack of enthusiasm in following up on those results if they are indeed legit. If I were a researcher using actual equipment to verify what is basically "Ancient Asian Natural Philosophy" in the lens of modern science, I would immediately do everything I could to broaden the research into a whole field. If a man can say "I'm moving energy through my body" and a machine can demonstrate some kind of physical phenomenon that accurately follows what he is saying, ignoring that is like ignoring someone who says "I can direct my antibodies to send my cancer into remission" while we use machines to verify that, yes, when he claimed that was what he was willing his body to do, his body actually freaking did it. Imagine how much we could help chronic pain sufferers, PTSD and treatment-resistant-depression sufferers, and all manner of other people stuck in difficult situations if suddenly we discovered all they had to do was take a trip to Shaolin Temple in order to be taught how to tell their own bodies to quit tormenting them. So often I see people who suffer with hard-to-diagnose pain/CNS/PNS/psychological issues being treated like it's all their fault and that they should be able to just flip a switch in their brain to "get over it", and that just tears me apart inside... but imagine if there really is a way to learn to do something like that. Imagine if the answer to "fibromyalgia" (that's doctor talk for "your nervous system hates you and wants you bedridden and we just haven't learned enough to understand why") were just a matter of learning Wu Shu.

Goku didn't go to the afterlife to get stronger XD he died and happened to be informed about someone there who could make him stronger and people don't even need to be dead to go the place where he got stronger. The afterlife in dragon ball isn't really the same as here anyway since the afterlife in dragon is an actual physical place in their universe( well nobody knows wtf our afterlife is but you know what I mean XD)

I mean flight isn’t due to super saiyan, in fact goten could go super saiyan but didn’t know how to fly. I’ll admit, a lot of these explain the physical observations, but I am more concerned how the increase in strength happens (with science)

Great episode as always, Kyle @Sci_Phile ! Based on your theories it's also conceivable that the Saiyans' colored auras are based on their alien physiology. At higher levels of exertion their bodies could produce/secrete different chemicals (so high levels of Sodium, Mercury, & Neon gas depending on the Super Saiyan level) hence creating the different auras. It could also be theorized that once the transformation has stabilized, they secrete less of the chemical making the aura nigh invisible other than on his hair whose strands are soaked with said chemicals & charged ions. I've also thought about this for some time. I theorized having the ability to control electric and magnetic fields is the key that gives the dbz characters amazing powers such as forming the plasma energy balls. This reminds me of a video of a chi master who was able to shock the interviewer when asked to place his hand on his lower belly becaus that's where energy comes from. So the characters could have internal energy storages but many animes that show laser cannons charging before the blast seems to pull the energy from the surroundings. Both ideas backs up the theory that having the ability to control e&m by concentrating charge and keeping it formed by a magnetic field is key. We've also seen the characters sense other energies which makes sense because all living beings are electrically charged and have a magnetic field. I think the amount of energy a person possesses is proportional to their mastery of e&m. Controlling the magnetic field around them may give the ability to levitate and when applying an electric field that has enough force may allow them to propel themselves in any direction they want. If you've ever seen a rail gun work then you get the idea. Instant transmission is an interesting addition of quatum mechanics: QM talks about entanglement, or the connection and immediate interaction of two sets of particles despite distance; quantum teleportation is the tranfer of information of the entangled particles from one location to the next instantaneously. These topics are heavy in the understanding of e&m because e&m are the ruling forces at that size.

i think the aura is just the manifestation of his Ki, maybe because goku has SO much ki to tap into, its forced out his body..and flying is taking that ki and pushing it beneath you...its very complex how Ki even works..more so with someone like Goku..but that's just my 2 cents
Electricity can tingle. But seriously it was clearly her learning how to control her body's ki better, which makes perfect sense to me. And because we've seen the transformation achieved by different ways by different saiyans. Like how Goten archived it in a casual sparring matching with his mother via pushing himself. And naturally the two had to achieve Super Saiyan quickly for the sake of the plot or else that universe wouldn't be a serious contender in the tournament. Without the new super saiyans, we'd just have the same challenge as the last tournament arc.

Loved the episode, but there are some holes: 1) Plenty of Non-Super Saiyans can fly. 1A) It's even discussed that Flying is actually vastly easier to accomplish than a Super Saiyan transformation (ex: Gohan teaching Videl to fly). 2) Plenty of Non-Super Saiyans can create energy attacks. 3) The explanation does not cover the increase in speed, strength, durability, etc. 4) Only Saiyans can become Super Saiyans - if it were simply a mastery of life energy (Ki, or your choice of variant), then anyone would be able to accomplish this transformation. Again, I loved the episode and the concepts are absolutely sound, but there's a lot missing that does/does not involve the actual Super Saiyan transformation.

SouSporting Colonel Volgin's universe doesn't have Ki and he's not a Saiyan with S-cells. Not to mention his powers are based off of psionic abilities rather than ki power inflation. Actually Super Saiyan requires three things: 1) High enough Power level to activate the transformation. 2) A strong enough body to sustain the transformation. 3) Acting against your true nature. Anger isn't the requirement. But tons of people get this wrong, so don't feel bad.

The lightning formed when you "power up" is just Plasma. Or heat given off by the energy. It doesnt just occur when SSJ. In the tournament of power, Zeno mentions "So much heat" when Goku went partial Ultra Instinct. Which heats up the air around it turning it into Plasma by superheating the air around him. Lightning superheats the air around it turning it into Plasma.

It's not even a possible explanation of what we see in the show though. It was just "hey, there's lighting in Goku's aura, let's use that as an excuse to explain some aspects of electromagnetism" lol. Felt kind of hamfisted to me. He tried to equate Super Saiyans to just being electrical potential manipulation machines, lol. Probably would have been better served just explaining science concepts with wholly consistent real world examples and not trying to fudge the lore to "make things fit" when it doesn't, at all. Yeah, but the explanation is the same. It's all electricity, the difference between a regular human/saiyan/namekian/etc and a super saiyan is the electric potential achieved and the physical transformation undergone. In normal form, Goku can generate large electric charges in his body and use them to fly, shoot plasma, and such; in super saiyan form, he can generate _immense_ electric charges in his body and do all that.
I appreciate and understand this approach, and it makes for some great refreshingly new content; but, I'd still really like an episode of this talking about all the real life phenomena behind the aspects like strength, endurance, vigor, and so on. For me, I always think about the "mom strength" situation, like in those stories about mothers suddenly being able to physically "overclock" in order to save their children by performing some impressive feats. To me, such incidents are the ones that most closely follow the patterns and limitations of the earlier transformations from the show (Kai-O-Ken and the very first official instance of the proper SS transition). When you start to look at the later transformations, too, I think you start to see similarities to real life feats like the ones a lot of monks perform.
I just don't think there is enough honest scientific research and speculation regarding what is really going on in some of these bodies during some of these situations. I mean, we can apparently track what is traditionally called "ki" by using certain legit equipment, but I've never heard more about that. Either those reports are hoaxes, or existing biases have just led to a lack of enthusiasm in following up on those results if they are indeed legit. If I were a researcher using actual equipment to verify what is basically "Ancient Asian Natural Philosophy" in the lens of modern science, I would immediately do everything I could to broaden the research into a whole field. If a man can say "I'm moving energy through my body" and a machine can demonstrate some kind of physical phenomenon that accurately follows what he is saying, ignoring that is like ignoring someone who says "I can direct my antibodies to send my cancer into remission" while we use machines to verify that, yes, when he claimed that was what he was willing his body to do, his body actually freaking did it.
Imagine how much we could help chronic pain sufferers, PTSD and treatment-resistant-depression sufferers, and all manner of other people stuck in difficult situations if suddenly we discovered all they had to do was take a trip to Shaolin Temple in order to be taught how to tell their own bodies to quit tormenting them. So often I see people who suffer with hard-to-diagnose pain/CNS/PNS/psychological issues being treated like it's all their fault and that they should be able to just flip a switch in their brain to "get over it", and that just tears me apart inside... but imagine if there really is a way to learn to do something like that. Imagine if the answer to "fibromyalgia" (that's doctor talk for "your nervous system hates you and wants you bedridden and we just haven't learned enough to understand why") were just a matter of learning Wu Shu.

Based on your theories it's also conceivable that the Saiyans' colored auras are based on their alien physiology. At higher levels of exertion their bodies could produce/secrete different chemicals (so high levels of Sodium, Mercury, & Neon gas depending on the Super Saiyan level) hence creating the different auras.
It could also be theorized that once the transformation has stabilized, they secrete less of the chemical making the aura nigh invisible other than on his hair whose strands are soaked with said chemicals & charged ions.

I've also thought about this for some time. I theorized having the ability to control electric and magnetic fields is the key that gives the dbz characters amazing powers such as forming the plasma energy balls. This reminds me of a video of a chi master who was able to shock the interviewer when asked to place his hand on his lower belly becaus that's where energy comes from. So the characters could have internal energy storages but many animes that show laser cannons charging before the blast seems to pull the energy from the surroundings. Both ideas backs up the theory that having the ability to control e&m by concentrating charge and keeping it formed by a magnetic field is key. We've also seen the characters sense other energies which makes sense because all living beings are electrically charged and have a magnetic field. I think the amount of energy a person possesses is proportional to their mastery of e&m. Controlling the magnetic field around them may give the ability to levitate and when applying an electric field that has enough force may allow them to propel themselves in any direction they want. If you've ever seen a rail gun work then you get the idea. Instant transmission is an interesting addition of quatum mechanics: QM talks about entanglement, or the connection and immediate interaction of two sets of particles despite distance; quantum teleportation is the tranfer of information of the entangled particles from one location to the next instantaneously. These topics are heavy in the understanding of e&m because e&m are the ruling forces at that size.

And because we've seen the transformation achieved by different ways by different saiyans. Like how Goten archived it in a casual sparring matching with his mother via pushing himself. And naturally the two had to achieve Super Saiyan quickly for the sake of the plot or else that universe wouldn't be a serious contender in the tournament. Without the new super saiyans, we'd just have the same challenge as the last tournament arc.

Loved the episode, but there are some holes: 1) Plenty of Non-Super Saiyans can fly. 1A) It's even discussed that Flying is actually vastly easier to accomplish than a Super Saiyan transformation (ex: Gohan teaching Videl to fly). 2) Plenty of Non-Super Saiyans can create energy attacks. 3) The explanation does not cover the increase in speed, strength, durability, etc. 4) Only Saiyans can become Super Saiyans - if it were simply a mastery of life energy (Ki, or your choice of variant), then anyone would be able to accomplish this transformation.
Again, I loved the episode and the concepts are absolutely sound, but there's a lot missing that does/does not involve the actual Super Saiyan transformation.

The lightning formed when you "power up" is just Plasma. Or heat given off by the energy. It doesnt just occur when SSJ. In the tournament of power, Zeno mentions "So much heat" when Goku went partial Ultra Instinct. Which heats up the air around it turning it into Plasma by superheating the air around him. Lightning superheats the air around it turning it into Plasma.
To be honest, you should do more anime-related science videos like this one more. Anime has gotten so bizarre, so we need someone to break down the science behind it.

General Tempest nothing wrong with odd anime,let's just not forget where we came from guys. I grew up on card captors,yugioh and pokemon. At face value they're just your average cartoons. Then you start to really think about 10 year Olds going on un supervised adventures or teenagers playing a game of cards to save the world and you start to ask yourself,"where are their parents?!?"

It's not even a possible explanation of what we see in the show though. It was just "hey, there's lighting in Goku's aura, let's use that as an excuse to explain some aspects of electromagnetism" lol. Felt kind of hamfisted to me. He tried to equate Super Saiyans to just being electrical potential manipulation machines, lol. Probably would have been better served just explaining science concepts with wholly consistent real world examples and not trying to fudge the lore to "make things fit" when it doesn't, at all. I understand what he was going for from the start. I just don't think this is the best way to be a science communicator, lol. Why bother even bringing up the show if you're going to ignore everything that doesn't work for you (which is cherry picking, probably the least scientific attitude possible)? Just makes it feel like a cheap marketing ploy, superfluously involving poor fictional examples just to try to use the show's popularity for their own gain, even if they really did have pure intentions deep down only trying to help spread science more easily; it just comes across that way now.

"Negative comments" It's called criticism, get used to it. Whoever wrote this seemed like they only skimmed instead of actually reading the series to understand even the most basic of fact.
the problem is not the theory, but the things he said about dragon ball were wrong in this video, and if he were right on all of it, i think the theory would slightly change
