This is not weaving... this is circular braiding with manipulated paths.

Wow, this is awesome. What happened to it? I feel like there is a lot more potential here...

Pretty cool! Is there an industrial machine that could weave orthogonality 3D?

Is there a possibility to make these nets more smooth?
Because the size of the pulley is large

+Lee Studley Thanks! [Space Weaver] was created for an architecture studio at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco. This video represents our final product, although more information can be found at: www.instructables.com/id/Space-Weaver-A-Seven-Foot-Tall-3D-Weaving-Machine/

+Evan Bowman hi Evan, but I don't understand how you support the whole structure since it's all composed by soft threads from the video, would you explain? fantastic work!

Wei Chieh Shih, Thanks! We experimented with a variety of resins and found that simple cyanoacrylate glue (Zap CA, or Super Glue) worked best for our purposes. After the machine completed ~12 inches we would pause to "cure" the fibers.

+Evan Bowman so you mean the structure is flexible resin instead of threads?

+Wei Chieh Shih, the carbon and fiberglass fibers absorbed the glue very well, so the end result was actually quite stiff (but brittle).
