Back in the 70's I went to her clinic with my 2 horses. She was such a huge help to us all, I am glad to see her still teaching and riding. Thank you Martha !
Martha you are an amazing woman. I last ran barrels when I was 16 when my horse fell on me and screwed up my ankle. I am not 45 and started small gymkhanas 2 years ago. You are my inspiration to keep going and go after my dreams. I have a horse that was a 1d when we was 4, now 15, was used as a stallion all these years and we are doing this together.
Thank you so much Martha! im only 13 and I just got a new younger paint horse gelding that was never started on barrels, and now he love to work with them! Im also glad he enters the arena really quietly and then pick up speed right away when asked:) These training tips work really good with him as he can sometimes be unresponsive when turning the barrel every once in a while...but now he has been completely responsive.
When I was a little girl I fantasized about being kidnapped by Martha Josey. I wasn't an abused or unhappy child. Martha Josey was just my hero. As an adult I've quoted Martha thousands of times to my students. "Perfect practice makes perfect." I've always referred students to take a look at Martha's horses and note how perfectly balanced they are at all times. I saw her once in Denver. Picture a 40 year old woman trying to keep herself from acting like a groupie when Martha smiled and

Is it acceptable for a 19 year old to learn to barrel race do you think?
9312Bookie Why wouldn't it? 5 year olds run barrels. Do you have any general riding experience yet? That would be a must first.
I wish I could live like that....
