  • -History:
Le chant du depart was the anthem of the French empire during the napoleonic era. It first came to light in 1794 and was written by Étienne Méhul. Allthough la Marseillaise replaced La chant du depart as the official anthem of France, it is still the unofficial anthem of French Guyana. The song was especially beloved by the republican french armies of the time. When it was first performed in 1794, the song grew quickly to become popular enough to be offically declared as the national anthem of France.
