I was born in the early eighties. I was fortunate to grow up during that period when talent, limited computer power and passion all came together to create really unique titles. And of course, Japan essentially revolutionized gaming as we know it. Blaster Master will always hold a special place in my heart. I liked the story from the American version of this game. Before I knew about Metafight, I never knew that games were majorly modified for markets. I was too young to know then. There's something kind of romantic and adventerous about the old story. There's something magical about this idea about falling down a deep giant hole in your back yard and finding a mysterious super-technologically advance machine----and exploring a world of giant creatures and different seasons, different darknesses and depths. Imagine, you're a teenage boy living a humdrum life, and one day, you get to dive into black water, climb walls in your own tank, fly and trek through boilingly hot lava caves. I liked the absurdity of the original stand-alone story. I might have not known about the domestic-market/American-market, but I could tell even then that the story was off. But it still fed into this idea of "There's adventure out there, you just need to look around the right corner." What a fantastic game. I frame a copy on my wall.
This is melodic punk sounding and it's sick. NOFX comes to mind stylistically; for example, in the beginning Andalusian Cadence it sounds like, with intense drums throughout, then melodic arpeggios, back to simple melody. Good stuff.
@GBelair Thanks for the upload as well. As you can see by my other posts, I was (and still am) a huge fan of Blaster Master. This is one of my all time favorite tracks on the NES. Many other game tracks from the NES era with addictive tunes come to mind, but are too numerous to list. Thanks for this channel so we can relive the glory days again. Check out Blaster Master Overdrive on WiiWare if you haven't already..
The Japanese version of this game is MetaFight featuring Kane Gardner as the protagonist you control. This game is a prequel to Blaster Master Zero. Given the Area 7 of the latter game’s name is “Jason’s Determination”, I will hereby call Metafight’s Area 7 theme “Kane’s Determination”.
This game is by far one of the hardest NES games ever made. Sunsoft churned out a couple other brutal titles like this back in the day (Gremlins/Gremlins 2 and Fester's Quest come to mind). This stage was intense, and the music gave you a big adrenaline rush before the lengthy final stage. I also like the stage 3 music. Very addictive gameplay! Try beating the original on NES in one sitting. No save, no password, 5 continues. It takes about 3 hours to beat if you know where everything is!
Eh, this game is nowhere near as hard as other NES games. I can tell you that Blaster Master doesn't even come close to, say, Battletoads. I've cleared Blaster Master many times, even on original hardware. Battletoads, I've only cleared... once. Just once. Despite numerous attempts. The only hard parts in Blaster Master is beating the Stage 5 boss (or, well, getting TO him with Full Gun power), landing a hit on the Stage 7 boss so you can pause-kill him, and then the whip guy (who I've heard has a very predictable AI pattern, though I never exploited it). If you can get to the whip guy, should only take one or two tries to get him if you've any idea of what to do. EDIT: Actually I've beaten the Stage 5 boss with Full -1 Gun power, once. Got to his room, had 7 GUN and I was like "YOLO" and just dove in and actually wound up winning. barely.
When u get this Blaster Master stage stage 7 u feel that underground feel to it groove the it was so good they bring and use it again on the final boss stage 8 I called it the sewer guard but I know it was really named the Plutonium Boss high Drama with the fight with it using that big whip use the Bomb attack one of the most challenging NES I have ever played :)
@linkpwnsevery1 Stage 5 is indeed the hardest (aside from 8). Like you said, the huge crab that spews bubbles must be attacked with a full gun upgrade (relentlessly) and that's the only way to easily destroy his wave of bubbles. Just getting to that boss with that full gun is a task alone. The boss hideout is even difficult due to the blind spots where the laser shooting "security cameras" roam. You have to have the entire stage planned out from beginning to end or you're a goner.
favorite one from the game, although those of areas 2 and 5 are also quite good. all of them match perfectly the area they are played in. sad that the last area was a disappointment, graphics, playability, sound effects and music alike. nevertheless, it is the best platformer for me that ever existed for the nes.
@GBelair I believe it is affected by the grenade to the face. And it also dies to the Pause trick where you hit it with the grenade and hit pause... and it continues to take damage while its paused. You wait a few moments and unpause and its dead.
damn this brings me back wow.... the hardest boss was the orange frog in area 7 (thanks god for the pause trick) and the last boss with the red whip!!!!!!!!!
I shall unofficially call this song, "Kane's Resolution". I'm totally not doing this to match Blaster Master Zero's Area 7 Underworld theme "Jason's Resolution". xP
Yeah, I played this game for hours and got to the plutonium boss and kept getting beat. I gave my mom the controller since I had infinite lives using the game genie and told her to have a go while I splashed water on my face. While doing so I thought it'd be funny if she beat it; sure enough she found that if you go into the upper right corner and used the turbo controller with grenades you can hit him and somehow he couldn't hit you. Ahh memories :-)
This BGM made think I had a time limit before I overheated or something. Or that something must be chasing me and I had to stay ahead of it to survive.
@Mada2595 Kindergarten... seriously... Not saying that I don't believe you, but I consider myself a hard core gamer (playing 30 years since '81), and this is one of the hardest games - EVER. I find it hard to believe that you beat this in kindergarten. It takes twitch finger reaction, years of gaming skill, and nerves of steel to beat the Plutonium Boss, who takes 100 grenade hits to kill (yes, I actually counted once). He moves quickly, constantly, and if he hits you 3 times, you're a goner.
Folk dance? Hell no this is an 8 bit metal masterpiece
@Stimulator7 I mean, folk rock/metal is actually a thing, so lol
Is this meant to be a folk dance?
Try this on 0,75, it sounds so sweet

yeah the game was an anime concept originally.. blaster master 2, blasting again, actually does that story justice..
This music is used to the final boss
Yeah with the whip
Whenever I got to this stage back in the day I would just let it play for, you know, ever

NOW I get what Proton Jon was talking about!
Who

I would add no using programming errors in the game to that list.
Yes and Batman too jejeje
One of the hardest?
Play this song when the world ends
Final boss
When that boss start strutting
Ah yes. The theme of Grenade Pause Tricking Goez into a corner. Those must've been the days, cuz I only started with Blaster Master ZERO 1 & 2.
Same here...

Fruitcake Floyd last boss is the easiest

It sounds like the lava is chasing you, this song has a habit of escaping quickly before you die consumed by the hot lava
sounds like something out of megaman. :p
sounds like something out of Megadeth too.
Охеренная музыка, возврат в детство!

Yea not rly sure if I made it to area 7.. this game was hardaf at the time.
This BGM made think I had a time limit before I overheated or something. Or that something must be chasing me and I had to stay ahead of it to survive.
Well, you aren't WRONG...
