    Very nice review, I have the orvis bug out backpack with the optional chest pack that connects to it. I have a ton of room actually way to much. I'm having back trouble carrying all the weight doesn't help. I was looking for a sling pack until my back heels up. I can carry both Lunch for me and my dad, rain jacket, camera, Glock, extra fly boxes spare rod in a rod tube ,extra reel and still have room. I found my orvis bug out backpack new with tags and free shipping for $100.00 bucks, the guy had won it a trout unlimited raffle. Best deal I've ever found.

      Not too long after I made this video I picked up the Bug Out Backpack and chest pack also. Saved $100 off the combo by finding them used on ebay.
      Having used both I can say that the sling can get overloaded also.
      Throughout my day I'll rotate it around, and either secure or unsecure it using the small locking strap on it looking for comfort.
      When I use the backpack and the chest pack it's because I've got camera gear and what I'll do is wear the chest pack with it's straps attached and then put the backpack on. Once I find a spot I want to record I'll just take off the backpack, stash it streamside, and stay within sight of where I put it.
      It's a crapshoot but I try to fish secluded spots as much as possible, and so far nobody has come up and discovered my bag.

    Nice demo of the pack and hiw you have it set up. I particular, I like your mods and honesty. I've had the same pack for a year and haven't used it do to it being on the smaller size and being non- waterproofed. Your video demo has motivated me to give mine a try. Thank you.

    Nice video. If you're looking for extra room, I'd suggest minimizing the size of some of your items. No need for an eyeglass case to size of a thermos. Ditto the can of bug spray. You can carry the same items in 1/4 the space you're consuming - giving you room for 2 gallons of water.

      @@merchantmariner6132 thanks for watching and thanks for the tips.
      I'm a pack rat so a lot of the stuff I carry is WAY overkill for a "normal" person.
      I'm slowly figuring out I don't need a metric crap ton of crap just to enjoy myself but it's a long road ahead.

      I get it. I have the same pack and it's got tons of room. As an example, Off! Sells insect wipes that take up the same room as a pack of leaders, so you can ditch that huge spray can.

      @@merchantmariner6132 I actually probably have bug spray wipes in the bag right now.
      Squished under the can of bug spray.
      For just in case. 🤷🏽‍♂️

    Does that chest pouch hold joints and lighter well?

    • @averageguyadventures
      @averageguyadventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      It could but it's not waterproof.
      I would suggest the Orvis Waterproof Pocket as an add-on to keep your sess dry.

    Just got mine yesterday.
    My *first* purchase from that company. Thing seems super light weight fabric wise...dang...hope it doesn't shred apart on these creeks where you gotta slog thru blackberry and brush!!
    Plus...NO sticker?! wtf! haha

    • @averageguyadventures
      @averageguyadventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      So far mine has held up great while brookie fishing.
      Brambles, tree limbs, rocks, etc.. No rips, tears, snags, broken zippers, nothing. It is stained in a few spots but that just gives it character.
      The only thing I've had to do to it is spray it with a waterproofer.
      And I totally understand about the sticker. But, it being Orvis, that may add another $30 to the price.
      This was also my first Orvis purchase and I paid full price, but here's a tip: Buy Orvis gear off of that one auction site. I've sinced picked up the BugOut Backpack/chest pack combo and saved myself $100. Just find a seller who will take returns and ask them for more pictures if there's something you want a better look at.

    Any chance you could explain how you attached the magnet to your sling pack?

    • @averageguyadventures
      @averageguyadventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sure.
      The outer piece is the top from a Wixgear magnetic vent phone mount.
      The part inside the bag is the screw base from a magnetic clothes hook, I think rated for 25lbs, off of Amazon.
      The top of the pack is thin enough that the magnets grip securely and the phone magnet is strong enough to hold all but the largest flies.

    What type of water proofing spray did you use?

    • @averageguyadventures
      @averageguyadventures  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't remember the brand, sorry. It was just some I had around.
      I do remember it was for shoes and it was nothing fancy, just some basic stuff from Wally World.

    Lol

    • @averageguyadventures
      @averageguyadventures  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've already written a strongly worded letter to Orvis saying how if I don't get at least enough space in the next iteration to carry a case AND A HALF of water, wading gear, a sandwich, two Twix, an empty fruit snacks bag, a can of Pringles, the other two fly boxes I have with flies I don't even use, a rolled up newspaper for the dog that somebody inevitably brings along, a Game Boy Color, a container of baby wipes, my extra house keys, a book for when nothing's biting, my phone charger, a laptop, and a change of pants, they're losing me as a customer!
      Thanks for watching!

    man, how much do you need for a day fishing?

    • @averageguyadventures
      @averageguyadventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All. The. Things.
      What I carry is basically every accessory I own.
      Extras/replacement stuff that I buy goes straight into the bag because my memory sucks and otherwise I'll forget it at home.

    What magnetic fly patch is that?

    • @averageguyadventures
      @averageguyadventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The front is actually a magnetic cell phone mount for a car vent and the back is the base for a magnetic clothes hook like you would use on a cruise.
      I tried a fly specific patch but have found the phone mount has a stronger magnet.
