i was studying abroad in Barcelona in 2012 and skating diagonal manny pads one night by myself and mark suciu rolled up also by himself. i was a fan so introduced myself to him and we talked for a while. super chill guy but he was really burnt out. he kept saying how cool it was that i was going to school. i was like dude i would quit school in a heart beat to be a pro skater school is wack. just was a classic "grass is always greener" scenario and we both kinda saw it. I never knew he went back to school the next year. thats awesome im happy for him when i saw this video just brought back the memory and made me smile.

So refreshing to see a skater that has goals in life, and just isn’t promoting being a total wasteoid all day. You can do both, being a skater doesn’t mean you have to act like a loser all the time. Love this guy.
Truly is sad how a lot of skaters turn 30 and they’re complete deadbeats with no real life skills or ambitions. Just vibes, getting fucked up and screwing around 😂
wtf is this comment, "Being a skater doesnt mean you to to act like a loser all the time" Who acts like a loser?! This comment seem to be written by one though, and i havent been skating in 15y ish, so dont come at me :D
You have the life of an artist Mark. You realised your dreams. You maybe didn' t put it on Paper ... But you sure as hell registered it on film... You made us see the world in an other way! Realise that you are one of the most creative people that has ever stepped foot on a skateboard. Sure hope you read this. Greets from belgium
Yeah but its like we get to succeed along with him on his board, just by virtue of getting to witness his greatness!! Just now caught your s/n!!! Nice one there Green River!!
I went to college w mark. Only later did I learn he's a pro skater. I randomly decided to type his name into youtube today & found this video. Ngl the guy is whip smart, and he really seemed to love learning. I hope whatever he's up to, he's enjoying himself
I skate about 3 times a week and can't imagine my life without it but I did go 12 years without touching a skateboard. A big part was that I was pretty good at it and tried to get into the industry very young and wreckless. This resulted in a very early burn out and lots of down time due to injuries which is where I picked up other interests that led me to my career now
This is actually one of the most interesting interviews I have ever seen. Mark put his thought process on paper in such a unique way, a way that definitely shows of his studies in Literature. Down the line, I would love to read a book by him. His way of thinking and getting his thoughts through to others, amazed me already
I dont know why but at first I dont really rock with mark... but honestly I've realized he is one of the most intelligent and interesting skateboarders still in the game.
It’s not fun when it feels like it’s a job… knew a bunch of pros in different sports that said. They lost the drive because it started to feel like a regular day job. they all said it was better grinding it out trying to make it.
Burnout in a career field is a problem. Best to Mark for completing his degree and remaining a well respected pro skater. He’s one of the best to grace the wood and wheels.
Being burnt out is a real thing and thats when its time to take a break, BUT school will always be an option. You are never too old to go to school. There are little to no pro skaters in thier 40's 50's (hawk, gonz, B anderson) "Make hay while the sun shines" Also higher ed is another big business corporate money machine. Library cards are free.
What would be cool and what I wonder about is if there are any skaters who skate at a top pro level and they do it just for them and their friends? Meaning, no sponsors, zero advertisement, zero organized coverage, no $$. Or do all amazing skaters get picked up by companies. (And nothing against being sponsored or making $$ or filming)
I think those people do exist Some people still shredding and want to stay lowkey, they just prefer to have fun at skateboarding while doing really well at it and dont have to worry about anything. Skateboarding is now a legit career and people do get a choice of whether they want to go pro or not
@@taylorhadley425 there’s a guy a couple years older than me that shreds a park like 30 minutes south. Dudes a real estate agent and skates for fun but he rips. Asked him why he’s not trying to to get sponsored and he just says he skates for fun not to make it a career.
I second this motion and move to have this comment presented as evidence of Mark's artistry to any and all concerned parties. Not only is he an artist, hes an AMAZING ARTIST!!

@@ryandieter Mark clearly couldn't care less about money. He is passionate about literature and writing. He is an artist who seeks fulfillment of his soul above all else. I'm glad he chose skating too but money wasn't a factor.

I don't deny Mark's capabilties, but you must be new to skateboarding or don't know much to make this kind of assumption.
Lol always heard Rodney mullen had a degree in physics or mastery level understanding but that could of been Kentucky fried mouse situation
Favorite skater. His parts are just so unique. Everything from music to tricks
Sounds like the dude from addidias saved him and us from missing out on some awesome 👌
Your skating is definitely a piece of art, Mark.
