I love your shout out to Alan Parsons. His impact on music throughout the late 70s into the 80s and 90s is astonishing. I'm a big admirer and seriously love the Project. Any of that music is a lights off, headphones on and eyes closed listen for me! Nearly at 1k subs Michael. That's frickin' great (is that what you Americans say?) :)

      Thanx, Tudor!
I was sold on The Alan Parson’s Project when I was turned on to I Robot. I was already a huge Asimov fan, so it was a no brainer to give that album a listen!
I was absolutely astonished! Using the ‘Robot’ on that album to show us a little bit about ourselves as listeners was brilliant!
Thanx, for your input Tudor! I love doing these videos, and I always feel that you too actually love what you do on your excellent channel!
I love the whole creation process whether it’s writing, recording, or producing a video! And I always feel that you do too!

@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine I Robot. That was my first album of the Project too. It was recommended to my by a Canadian friend. He said I’d love it. He was right. The actual I Robot instrumental is an Opus of listening. I’m going to listen to it again now. 🎧

There's a fantastic video on Amazon right now about the making of Darkside... Lot of interviews with Parsons in it. It really is an amazing story and well worth the watch for any Floyd / Parsons fans. Great story about the Gig in the Sky! and how it almost had lyrics.

Met Parsons quite briefly at a CES dinner for DTS back in 2015 when I was writing for a high-end audio website. Very nice and gracious man. Mentioned how much I enjoyed his outstanding production work with Al Stewart and he seemed very genuinely appreciative that I knew it all very well. He's a freaking giant! I'm over six feet tall and he towered over me. Taller than the late, great Chris Squire.

Watching him take the full Zep journey - from entire album reviews to entire live show breakdowns, was a ton of fun. I now consider him to be a virtual LZ expert....along with all the other great artists he's reacted to. He's very thoughtful, and deliberate. You are similar in that you put your whole self into your reactions, and give great insight. Of course you've lived this music for decades, and you are an artist in your own right, whereas Wayne is a newbie....so its great to hear both perspectives. Look forward to all your posts, Michael - enjoy the weekend.

Actually, DSOTM is 55 on the current 2020 list, not 35. But they include all genres of popular music. I do not personally listen to rap, but, okay, I get that other people do. But how could anyone rationally rank albums of such diverse genres? Like, they list albums by Nas, Amy Winehouse, Beyonce, Wu-Tang Clan and Marvin Gaye higher than DSOTM. I will assume that all those albums are good albums to those that enjoy those genres, but, how could you say which of those are better or worse on the same ranking?

That’s an interesting idea about DSOTM sort of sucking up all the oxygen in the room when it came out, and perhaps depressing sales of excellent albums by other major bands, like Zep. Although, I’ve always thought that HOTH suffered just from the fact of following the monster that was Zeppelin IV. Wish you were Here has a similar experience following Dark Side. My sentimental favorite PF album though has always been, and still remains, Meddle. Just too many amazing nights of a dark room, floor pillows, black lights, a hookah in the middle, amazing speakers up on the four corners of the ceiling, and good friends……and Echoes. 😁✌️

This album came to me on mixtape from a friend of a friend when I was still in middle school, about to transfer to high school; 1989, the end of my metal head years when I discovered the bands who influenced the metalheads. The Wall was on the other tape this person passed on to me. Walkman, walking in the morning dark I hear these alien tones inspiring my young musician senses. This approach to making albums informs all the things Cafe Cedarbeard, as Ascension Conspiracy music under that umbrella has made since 2006 when I started recording the things I now have on the internet. I always loved the trippy interludes in metal songs. Then this wave of musics hit me, just as David Gilmour's Floyd was cooking up the Thunder, and exploded on MTV. I'm young Gen X, discovered MTV when my grandparents got cable, 1983 when I was 9. It was pretty safe pop structures until later, when Headbangers Ball exposed me to Iron Maiden in the peak of their 80's wave when they played the whole concert video from Live After Death. Anyway, back to the Dark Side; this album sang to me deep in my middle teen years, alongside heavier musics like Queensryche, Dream Theater, and all the progressive bands. The way one song flows into another, and builds a wave, a theme, a story, a process beyond the 3 minute squeak informs everything I've ever recorded.

Sure, the Sun is eclipsed by the Moon; the Wise avoid madness during eclipses by knowing in their hearts that the Sun still shines even though we can't currently see it. Also, all shadows pass in the flow of the things.

Man you hit a chord in my memory with this one...one more thought; the resonance of Pink Floyd after Syd has the influence of Rock through the records they heard in their youth, blended with Church of England hymns, the English church music meeting the Black American church musics that birthed Rock. I dig it. Brian Eno I think had one of those synths. I think it influenced how he sings. Church hymns also influenced him. I dig the drone and hum. If only Syd had known the concept 'micro dose'. Happy hunting. I dig your vids.

I am NOT preaching! It is true that Sid Barrett was suffering from a mental illness, unknowingly he was a schizophrenic. Unfortunately, he lived in a time when mental illnesses were basically ignored and commonly viewed as a simple personality disorders. To add fuel to the fire of his illness, Sid also took many doses of LSD which eventually pushed him to the point of no return. Too many times I hear people claim to be "self-medicating" but aren't anything close to being medically qualified. Again, NOT preaching! Just a word of caution is all. Be careful.

Here is some rolling stone info. They hate prog rock, arena rock , hair metal and hard rock,.
They are so disingenuous, that when they reviewed an album from those genres, they'd bash the shit out of it.
At the end of the year when the album became extremely popular and big selling, they'd print a new "review". and it would be more favorable.
First time I saw then do that was Van halen/1984. "Beating a dead horse". Then late 84 "One -two punch of hard rock!"
These pricks founded RRHOIF, which is why many classic acts aren't in there yet.
