I think you've hit the nail on the head. I think that this album is not any more melodic than their previous work, but the overtaking calmness and beauty is what drives the black metal audience away. It's not particularly my cup of tea either, I like it a bit more dark and edgy too; but this is obviously crafted with thought and care by senior musicians who know what they're doing; and to just dismiss it as bad music, because it doesn't scare your old neighbor enough, is ignorant and/or dishonest at best.
Wow that was wonderful! I listened to a song of theirs quiet a while back and it didn't leave a strong impression on me... but this makes me want to explore more of their songs.
I love db. They are the best metal musician in the world. They do everything with passion, they put the right sound in the right way very effectively and creatively. They dont just make a symphonic metal because they have symphony and choir on it but they make songs and music that makes sense that fits in every part of the song. They remind me of king diamond and that band is one of my favorite
They've added some doom metal to the mix this time out. Subsequent listens have seen this song grow on me. The dramatic changes in tempo and intensity show more control than in their younger days. The female massed chorus is the thing that really puts this one over the top for me.
I agree. There is beauty in there! I absolutely loved first one and I loved even more this one. I think its pure masterpiece. Personaly I love changing tempo in songs, I like "dark" voice in black or death metal, but I cant listen to whole album if every song sounds the same. So if whole album will be like these two songs... oh my, hell yeah

Not to say I didn't like it - actually, I did, but for Dimmu it was "meh". Bear in mind that many other bands struggle to achieve Dimmu's "meh" quality. Like I mentioned, I hold this band to a very high standard.

Honestly this song did really nothing for me. Triptykon are amazing though, so definitely excited to see what you do with that.
