Great video guy’s, I got open roads and mud flap trying to decide which one is better. Y’all make these videos fun, Cody is serious and Angela is the funny one!
Thanks! Several people have mentioned that they use both, as they can each provide different options (like large truck stops off of the interstate vs. off-the-beaten path). Granted, I don’t know.
I did see that with Mudflap, you have to go inside for your discount, so we’re trying to be realistic and decide if we will actually do that for a discount.
Know thyself..right?
Yes on the 2 IDs! 💯
👏Genius right??!
Know your RV, weights, and measures, great video
Yes! Thanks for watching!
I’m jealous of your 50 gal tank. Wish my RAM did.
I am pretty excited about that and the exhaust brake. We haven’t had to stop for fuel on travel day yet, so it is already paying off!
Make sure you get the Open Roads toll transponder- it works in all of the lower 48 states
I believe that I have heard of that, but I need to look in to it. Thanks!
👻🎃Happy Halloween
🎃🎃🎃🎃
Mudflap is a good fuel discount, I like Ang,s Sass, and her jokes, she my kind of girl!!!
😁
Someone mentioned Mudflap and I did check in to that one. I’ll take a on a savings on fuel! 😊
My dually ram has a kick down step at rear bumper. It's factory and it sweet no need for ladder.
I took a look at those. I am about 99% sure I’m going to get that.
Open Roads is great. I have been on Diesel for about 6 months. I can usually get diesel cheaper than the current gas price using my open roads car. Thankfully my local truck stop is open roads so I can use it all the time.
Nice! Thank you!
I am looking forward to trying it out.
If you are in Elkhart or Goshen Indiana, you should go to Dan's Service center or Dually Depot and get their 5th wheel hitch wear ring put on.
I’m not sure what that is. I’ll have to check it out.
Just like you said....all the pups care is they are with their people!
Right?! And maybe some treats...pets....attention... LOL
I think all pups are extra extra, or at least all the ones I have had. You're lucky that it's just the water dish, I have a pup that buries his food dish in his blanket if his food is not made to his liking.
hahahahaha! I AGREE!! Sassy little things!
Cody your a man after my own heart, clean windows make a driver a happy man 😎👌🏼
Right?! 😁
Hey thats the Buc-cee's we visit everytime we go back home to visit family and friends. Its always fun to see places you go on someones videos. I can't wait til my wife and i can get a motorhome and start traveling more. God bless and safe travels
Awe I’m excited for you! Good luck on your journey!
The main benefit of Open Roads is the truck island with DEF at the pump. The discount seems awesome, but really just removes the "truck stop tax." You may have noticed truck stop cash price on diesel is normally 25-50¢/gal higher than local stop-n-robs. When you're counting your open roads savings loot, remember there's a swipe fee and 10% goes back to them. Don't get rid of that other fuel card - pricing is usually as good with more local options in a lot of places. I've got a GasBuddy card similar to the one you mentioned. Another pro tip: QT, Sheetz, and some of the other big chains have truck pumps at some locations and will work with open roads at cash price plus a swipe charge. Worth it if you're hooked to the camper. If not and don't need DEF, pump your diesel on the car side with your other card and avoid the swipe fee. Hope you filled that big tank in Missourah before leaving - lowest cash price on the pumps east of I-35, believe it or don't. Louisiana is a close 2nd.
Missouri was pretty cheap! Thanks for the advice! I am still trying to figure out how this stuff works, with a couple of embarrassing dry runs at the pumps. Lol
Yum, those brats looked GOood.!!!!!
They were dangerous! 😁
We just traveled across the country and we got our open roads card right before we left. We saved a lot of money. Especially filling a 50 gallon tank.
That’s great! I am really looking forward to it.
Mudflap easy download and no service charge if pulled from account. Local Casey's truck stop has 19 cents savings per gallon and 10 cents off DEF. I carry TSD too but have been find Mudflap has better savings. Bought and installed the spare tire thing works great $11 thanks for tip! Safe travels!!!
Thanks! Glad to hear you liked the spare tire fix. It’s a wonder the manufacturers don’t just take care of that on the front end though. I’ve seen some ads for Mudflap. I may give that a shot depending on how the open roads card does.
Looks 👀like you guys had a lot of fun
:). Thanks for watching!
UM, I need that bacon covered goodness in my life! EFS will change your life, just by going into the truck stops. Seat heaters are great but we need extra toe warmers! Fun video!
Let's be clear... NO ONE needs them! LOL. They were tasty though. So far, the larger fuel tank alone, has kept us out of the fuel pumps, but I am pretty stoked to have a better option when the rig is on.
I use open roads and mud flap. Both give reliable discounts. I installed a 60 gallon auxiliary fuel tank in my 17 Ram. Went with me when I bought my 22 Ram. I don’t buy fuel often when traveling but I usually can more selectively choose where I purchase fuel. I always use the truck lanes. The auxiliary tank is no problem to fill. However, the onboard tank requires a little caution to prevent a fuel bath. lol. TA usually gives the best discount on the open roads card. Mud flap varies. Our experience has been that luvs has the cleanest stores and TA the dirtiest not only store but restrooms as well. Can’t emphasize enough for all to know the total height of your rig. Gets real expensive if you don’t know the correct answer.
That is all great information. Thank you!
We feel much better after measuring, for sure!! 😳
You didnt leave me the plant so i guess it survived!!!
Bet brats were sooo good!
HAHA! The plant is NOT doing well!
Morning from CT. We have the open road card, saves us up to 65 cents a gallon!! By the way Cody, Scott traded up to the big horn dually. So far we love it, glad for the trade. We got white, named him Bull😊
That’s awesome!
I am looking forward to seeing how the card works. We JUST got it in-hand!
Another great adventure
Thanks for watching! 😊
I have a 2017 f350 dually it has a 48 gallon tank and I put a 52 gallon transfer tank in the bed. I don’t remember the last time I had to get fuel with the 5th wheel hooked up. I have over 1000 mile range. We came home to south Louisiana from dandridge Tn and planned to do it in 2 days but the wife was watching the weather and realized that the next day there would be some weather issues so we went the whole way. 750 miles 2 bathroom stops for us and the dog no fuel stops.
The extended range is great!
Also MudFlapps is another discount card that has more diesel stations than ORoads especially if you are unhooked. Brats looked marvelous! Safe travels!
Thank you! I believe someone else mentioned Mudflapps and I have been checking in to it as well. I will take some savings on diesel!
The exhaust brake on the Cummins is hands down the best!! Even sounds cool! My powerstroke works ok but can’t compare.
I am absolutely loving that exhaust brake! My blue truck never let me down, but I don’t feel that I have to foot-feed the hills or have to be as “ON” with this truck.
Look like y’all had a great time on the carts and the ideal of the cheese in the bruta look good. Cody there is one thing you need to check on your Ram, if they haven’t Fixed the problem. The Hood emblem’s on each side when it rains or when you wash it water will get in the hood. You lift the hood and water will pour out the back bottom. The way I repaired my emblem’s was to pop them out put a little clear adhesive and put them back on.
Thanks for that I didn't even know it was an issue! I'll check for it the next time I wash!
Be sure to stock up on DEF at your Buckeys stops! Super cheap!
😳 I FORGOT about that!
Funny video y’all make me smile 😊. Thanks From Wisconsin
Awee thanks! ☺️
I have a diesel as well, I flip flop between the Gas Buddy Fuel Card and Open Roads. I’ve noticed if you’re doing a lot of interstate driving you’ll get great discounts at truck stops. But when you’re in town and off the highways you’ll get pretty good discounts at other gas stations as well. I usually reference both when getting fuel and see which offers the best deals between both.
Great idea, thanks! With this larger fuel tank, I should have the option to try some of those off-the-beaten-path stops.
What I like about open roads card - in addition to savings - I can use diesel island and pay at the pump. Saves the hassle of going in prior to pumping. As far as savings, you can usually find comparable prices at a Walmart, but good luck pulling into Walmart fuel center with a fifth wheel. Also, most conventional credit cards stop the sale at $175. I have never reached the open roads sale limit on a filling. We have an aux tank, so we can carry almost 100 gallons-another great thing about a diesel. We can strategically plan fuel stops based on pricing through the open roads app by looking a head on the route. I also get DEF at the diesel island as opposed to buying at a store -it is supposed to be fresher. No discount on DEF but our power stroke doesn’t seem to use much (our camper isn’t heavy for the truck).
That is all great information! I appreciate it!
I have heard the same on DEF, which I found interesting. I also looked at the Mudflap option, after some suggested it and the only downfall that I saw was what you mentioned. I am not a huge fan of going inside, if it isn’t necessary.
We were going to that Hog Valley RV park a few weeks ago but it was booked up. Turns out there was a Razorback game that weekend with LSU. We went to Branson instead. It's good to know that place is nice. We will visit next year.
We couldn’t get a full week for that reason. We were just close enough to ‘home’ that I booked what I could. 😊
Safe travels!
I agree Cody our ladies need 2 ID’s.
🤣🤣It’s a great idea!!
Love your the videos as always. Will be camping at Lake Ouachita during Thanksgiving. Never been there before and plan on Boondocking
Oh how fun!! Hopefully the trees are still beautiful when you go! It has been so dry, I suspect it won’t last too long.
May I ask which campground?
@@RVUntethered Big Fir near Mount Ida
@@jessecox5317Awesome! We are often on the South side of the lake, but if you head over, here are a few great stops:
-History Nut Mtn Vista: Your gps should get you there, although you’ll feel like you’re lost. Ha! Beautiful any time, but a sunrise or sunset is the best!
-Mountain Harbor has great Harbor burgers, cheesy fries and salad bar!
-Shangri La cafe has great food (breakfast is great but all is good) and great pie! They run out fast though!
We saw some pictures of how low everything is out there, so if you’re on the water, be super careful! There are a lot of trees underneath. They are in quite the drought down there.
Have fun!! ❤
@@RVUntethered Plus wife wants to go to Crater Diamond mine one day lol
nice to see your family great video
☺️Thank you so much!
Upside has made me over $1200 to date, really love it!
I'm really sad though, y'all drove right passed us on this trip. We are currently parked at I44 and I49 in Carthage Mo which is our homebase!
I’m sorry we missed you! 🙁 We are putting some communication and gatherings together for next year, so we’ll catch you next time!
Cody, lube your slide rubbers also.. helps keep them pliable so they flip out and in .... that Chinese rubber gets non conforming the older it gets.....
Thank you! I do need to be better about that. I have tried a few different things and I think I need to go back to my original conditioner.
Their brisket and Sausage sandwich is SO GOOD.
Oh I haven't tried that!
Open Roads card is great!
Nice! ☺️
I love you Ang!
😊
Not sure if you mentioned it, but did you reinstall your train horns to your RAM? Also, check out Bullet Mount Solutions. They've got nice setups for cell phone holder, GPS holders, you name it. I've been using them in my '22 Bighorn 3500 Mega can. We almost have twin trucks as we have the same color. Love how you and Angela banter.
Thanks!
Ang shut down the train horn on this one. 🙁
@RVUntethered darn
Great video, just subscribed. What GPS are you using?
Thank you so much for your support! :)
We have been using this Garmin, since before we went full time in our RV. We believe that no gps system is perfect and a lot of people like the apps, but this things has gotten us out of a lot of jams, when we are in areas with no service, like national parks.
a.co/d/4fGeWo7
That looks delicious
Pretty good! ;)
Jim does those brats with cream cheese and jalapeño on the smoker😋
Oooh that would be AWESOME!
PSA. Don't forget to allow about 4 inches when measuring height. Roads have bumps and pot holes, making the rig bounce.🙂
Good call!
Cody they may have gotten this repaired on the newer trucks. But if not if you come up with a better idea let us know. Thanks
Sorry, which item?
To me all God's made food is the clanest
We use the ‘open roads’ card for our diesel truck. Our travels are west side of the lower 48 states as we are in the PNW. On a trip we find we “may” use it one time during the trip. We find there are other fuel stops that sell diesel fuel for a less cost and we plan for those. TDS will advertise, for example, a .60 savings. Their price might be $3.80 - .60 = $3.20 per gal. While a near by station is selling their fuel for $3.30 per gal. Do you really save .60? Not really. One more example is in Quartzite AZ the Arco has always been less expensive than the TDS fuel card savings. While is seems to be a big savings in fuel, it may not be as much as you think. Alway check the current fuel cost near a TSD station and you may lower cost fuel stations that a RV friendly. One more thing, be aware that trucks stops are known to sell B20 diesel, and the other fuel stops sell clear or B5 diesel. You can do your own research on why or why not to run B20 diesel. Happy travels.
Thanks for all the information! I have a lot to learn on this stuff!
@ However, still get the card and get use to using it at the truck stop pumps. There is a …….er… learning curve to use the pump computers at truck stops. Good luck. 🍀
@@MarknTerryI am learning this…😂
I'm so disappointed. You went right by my house and I didn't even know so I couldn't meet you guys
☹️ We are working on some meetups for next year, so we are a bit more available.
Did you decide on a name for the Ram? We have the Open Roads card and have found that Petro and TA seem to have the biggest savings usually. We’ve always liked to stop at Love’s because they have dog parks, but they’re hard to access from the truck lanes and they don’t seem to have as big discount as the other stations.
We have narrowed down on the names and JUST got the card in our hands!
Thank you for the information! This part is all new to us and we’ve had a couple of trip ups (embarrassing ones), as we learn this thing, but I’m excited!
I’m sorry the Ram Emblem’s
Ooooh gotcha!
With my ford diesel, much better mileage without using cruise.
OH! Well, maybe we'll try that! We have been using it and aren't sure if the lower mpgs are due to not being broke-in, or if it is user-error.
👍🏻🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
I miss MO fuel prices...😢😢
Right?!
@RVUntethered Connecticut fuel prices are no joke....TSD saves over $1/ gallon.
She protests too much in the truck. Buys stuff in buccees
HA
