Sumner Edward "Scott" Copple III, 56, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday (2/3/10). He was born on November 14, 1953 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Sumner Edward II "Ed" & Mary (Sinclair) Copple. Scott was a professor at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
What I remember most about that team was meeting Reg Gast at District track meet the following season in Norfolk and being impressed with his 'White' letter sweater...only State Champs could order white ones, he was a class guy, we had a blast even though the weather was lousy, (rainy, windy and cold) 'Scott' RIP ps., I played for Omaha Central and we defeated Lincoln East in '74 for our first title in 62 years, our fans stormed the floor much like East's did...indeed, hs ball was great!!
The one guy was wrong on Mike Heck falling on the floor. It was Doug Kelly. Mike Heck was walking by him. And I was behind the basket where the guy threw the ball in, looking right at the score clock. It did not start until the ball was going into the basket! Papio got robbed, but with all the people out there, the game was over. And what a great game it was!
First of all, I'm from Vancouver so I wouldn't know. My question is how prestigious is winning the state championships? I always hear people admire state champions.
Shot should have never counted. Papillion didn't get a call on a drive and they exceeded the 5 second clock on the inbound but that's the way it goes. If I recall, I believe Papillion was down about 20 points at one point. It sure was quite a game.
