- In the late 1970s, residents of Love Canal, a working-class neighborhood in Niagara Falls, New York, discovered that their homes, schools and playgrounds were built on top of a former chemical waste dump, which was now leaking toxic substances and wreaking havoc on their health. Through interviews with many of the extraordinary housewives turned activists, the film shows how they effectively challenged those in power, forced America to reckon with the human cost of unregulated industry, and created a grassroots movement that galvanized the landmark Superfund Bill.
POISONED GROUND: THE TRAGEDY AT LOVE CANAL tells the dramatic and inspiring story of the ordinary women who fought against overwhelming odds for the health and safety of their families.

Can't describe how much I love the PBS. My favorite American broadcasting network. Can't wait for the full doc. Best wishes from Poland!

ty for PBS. last sliver of true journalism still around. the women who banded together, and fought for their families and others, are true American heroes. always be proud of what you accomplished.
Nothing has changed in years. Crimes against humanity 🌻
The scales have been tipped... It will go down. As they say what goes up... MUST COME DOWN.
The guilty continue to go free.
This helps make sense of how there are so many superfund sites in America.
What powerful women.
American experience: *rawest thing on earth*
America has so many shameful acts upon it's people
And...
They've give us no reason to believe that they've stopped doing it.
No words😢
Lets not forget that in this case, first, the government sanctioned the use of the canal for waste 'storage' in the first place. Hooker didn't buy the canal and start secretly dumping in it. Two, When approached by the Niagara Board to buy the property Hooker declined. When threatened with condemnation and taking by eminent domain Hooker sold it for $1 with the caveat that it should not be developed. It was promptly developed anyway with excavations and utilities breaching the canals banks. It was so regrettable that they suffered the obvious consequences of their actions.
cant wait
Hugh Leo Carey governor of New York at that time, I hope people wake up
