    "Where did she get the brothers that can dance like that?" Gay clubs in NYC. A whole lot of her early choreography and a fair bit throughout her career was from queer men of color. She knew where to find the best dancers on earth and knew enough to pay attention to what they were saying as experts, collaborating with them on the eventual outcome. Not a shot at her at all, she was talented and very smart. A fun "after dark" "I might need 2 pillows for this" track of hers that gets less love than it should is "Human Nature", definitely check it out, but have pillows on standby lol.

      I recognize the 2 females as her dancers on tour. I remember Madonna jokes about the white girl dancer being from the valley, where I’m from. I don’t know about then, but now the best dancers come out of North Hollywood, because they have so many dance schools in that area. Amateur dancers from all over the world, come to train & learn there, with dreams of being a dancer for the big pop singers.

    Madonna was introduced to Vogueing when her longtime friend Debi Mazar took her to the Sound Factory in NYC. There she saw Jose Gutierrez and Luis Camacho of the House of Xtravaganza. She was so impressed witn them that she had them audition and have them in her Blond Ambition Tour and this Vogue music video. They choreographed this music video and for certain performances for the Blond Ambition Tour like Like a Virgin and Vogue of course. They're also featured in her documentary of the behind the scenes and some performances of the tour called Truth Or Dare. There is another documentary about the male backup dancers of the Blond Ambition Tour made 25 years later called Strike A Pose which told the stories of their lives after the tour, how it affected their lives and how their performances and portrayals in Truth Or Dare affected the lives of their fans as role models and as sources of inspiration especially the young gay men who were coming to terms with their sexuality and it shows where they are recently. The making of this documentary reunited some of the dancers who haven't seen each other in a very long time.
    The people Madonna was rapping in her song were the golden era of Hollywood actors and actresses and dancers and well known celebrity like Joe DiMaggio who was a successful baseball player who was married to Marilyn Monroe at one point in her life.

    This video truly is a work of art, paying homage to the classic Hollywood look (1930s-1950s or so). It's got something for everyone. This came out in 1990 and people today still know what to do when you say "strike a pose" or "vogue!"

      The video was directed by David Fincher = same man who directed "Fight Club" and many other amazing films, FYI. ALso, the 20's-30's look of the videography was also emulating the very infamous and stylized black and white photography of Helmut Newton, Herb Ritts and Annie Lebowitz who all rose to fame in their work with fashion pictorials and in magazines like Vogue and Vanity Fair.

    Before Gaga, before Britney, there was Madonna. I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s and SHE WAS/IS MY QUEEN! She normalized women in music pushing the boundaries of expressing their sexuality and sensuality. However, she was just an amazing persona and dancer too. She was progressive and always spoke up for the LGBT+ community too. I was not supposed to listen to her because I grew up in a Christian household, but I ALWAYS found a way! I would even be a 10 year old me and pray this would come on the radio. Clearly, my parents wishes never worked. I still love Madonna. This music video was/is one of the best ever. So epic and it doesn’t even look dated.

    • @Ella-iw7xn
      @Ella-iw7xn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, he didn't have the dance routine 'mastered. And if you know Leo well, you would know very well he's a master of mimicry. He can watch a dance and copy the movements While He's Watching. Leo Also can mimic different voices & Singing Voices. So on this video Leo couldn't keep up because it was heavily choreographed. Leo is a physical comedian, can sing, mimic and is a fantastic dancer. Leo doesn't Pre-Watch his videos, which is what you are implying and Leo doesn't do that shit. So...anyone try throw shade on Leo I put the 🌞right back on Leo.

    Her HS is down the street, Rochester Adams. The Ciccone family are locals. She is a very strong dancer. In HS she was in dance and cheer. She took ballet and would practice 4-6 hours everyday. She received a full scholarship for dance to my alumni University of Michigan. She left early to go to NY and peruse her dreams. She was robbed as soon as she set down her luggage and took in the sight of the city. She lived in squalor and found Michael Jackson's manager (Freddy demann) who was in the hospital for a heart issue. She brought up a boombox and performed her skit. He told her he would sign her as soon as he was better....she brought her own contract and demanded he sign, NOW. The rest is history..and he is still her manager.

    This style of dance came out of the New York “Ballroom scene” in the 80’s and was first performed by those in the LGBTQIA community during Ballroom dance competitions. They initially had mixed feelings when Madonna release this video believing that she had capitalized on their dance moves. But some folks were able to leverage their knowledge and dance skills by teaching a society eager to adopt it for their own. And that is VOGUE
