I'm so disappointed I only learned about Flite Fest yesterday, with the right amount of time I could have made the arrangements to be there. Love what you guys are doing, thanks for promoting a wonderful hobby. Love from Orlando, Florida

I don't even fly (let alone build) planes, just little quadcopters but it's still stupidly satisfying to watch. like if you feel like it the same way xD

That canopy looks like the perfect candidate for some acrylic windows. That hatch is perfectly positioned to put a GoPro behind it.

    Excellent build video!
I ordered mine and I'll have it Thursday of next week, according to UPS. This will be my first Flite Test plane and my first plane with foamboard, so it's going to be interesting!
I always wanted an L-16. I was just never ready to scratch my own. This one looks fantastic.
Only sad part is I'm land-locked in the middle of the desert! No water for me to fly off of.

That's my childhood flying around right there! The Sea Duck! The only RC plane I'm interested in flying. Now, you guys need to do some of Don Carnage's Air Pirate planes.

I wish I had seen this build video before Wednesday.... I broke my riding mower and bought a new one instead of repairing the old one,,,,now I can't buy any toys for six months at least. I want to build the FT Sea Duck. I have never flown an RC Plane, but I'm guts so I will try. Thanks for this build video.

Tip for cutting out the waste without cutting the paper,,,,, use the rounded corner of a credit/debit card or any plastic card of a similar type, the edge is sharp enough to cut the foam cleanly but to blunt to cut the paper covering

when the show was still playing i was into scratch building RC from plans. Making all the parts patterns and cutting the kits out of wood(5-ply plywood, liteply and balsa)dope and cloth. This plane was always a project in the back of my mind. But there is so much mass ahead of CG and so little space behind for counterweight. Have to be creative in the positioning of hardware to get it to balance correctlly.

Building my second Sea Duck after an awesome first season flying the first one off water on a 4S setup. Will reinforce the wing with carbon spars and some fiberglass and epoxy, as the old one developed a significant droop of the wingtips after a few months of flying. Probably the wet environment didn't go well with the integrity of the wing join in the middle.

Differential thrust: Different programing for different radios---- took me 3 days with videos for a spectrum 6 (BLACK) due to a sw that was activated deep within the programing on a new channel I hadn't used. Actually wore out the roller on the controller. Then I realized that trying to fly 2 2822 motors that pull 25 amps each (50 amps) cooked a battery (3 cell 2200mha 35c) with each flite. Now I get to rewire my twin and rebalance it for 2 batteries.

    • @ulaB

It's a special foam board made for Flite Test by Adams. The original white foam board is called Adams Readi-Board, but this was developed together with Flite Test to be water resistant. I'm not sure if you can get it anywhere else so far than in the FT store.

Plus the motors in the C pack have the shaft on the wrong end.

Speedbuild kits are 100% laser cut. They come, including pushrods, control, horns, and everything else needed to finish the airframe. I need a Supply is the electronics to make it fly. would this plane be good for a beginner to build and fly?

It's a pretty difficult build, but it looks like it flies beautifully. I'd suggest to start with something smaller though like the Tiny Trainer. Or if you want a bigger one to start, the FT Explorer is a great beginner plane too - a classic trainer design.

You can order FT kits to Europe, but shipping and extra customs is usually very expensive. They are working on having a European distribution, but no words on when it will happen.
