    Paid someone else to replace my water pump last year, on my 1957 Evinrude 5.5HP Fisherman, bummer, that looked relatively easy. Took my boat out this spring, on the 5th or 6th pull, broke the rewind/ recoil spring. More bummer, but, at least I diagnosed, ordered the part, and just finished the install. That was probably more difficult (just a PITA) than the water pump would have been. Good video.

      Thanks for the comments. I'm learning....most of these old motors are pretty easy to work on yourself. Good Job!!!

    Did anyone notice he installed the impeller backwards, motor spins clockwise, so when you look at it upside down the impeller should look like its spinning counter clockwise. It fixes itself once you start it up, but it could malfunction

    • @enigma9789
      @enigma9789 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yup. he fudged up. you will ruin the impeller like this.

      An impeller will correct itself by itself if installed wrong. No big drama.

    How’d did you get the bottom back attached to the motor? I’ve gotten stumped at that point. Having a difficult time getting the linkage back locked in

    • @jacksonharrington453
      @jacksonharrington453 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to have slid the shifter linkage onto the rod then push it in just to say so you can fit that little screw back in... it won’t go back together if the screw on the linkage is in there. It has to be put in last before closing the bottom end.

    I was wondering where you found the year it was made? Is it stamped in the plate directly or in some form of code. Nice vid. I just picked one up yesterday. Thanks for the vid. Just when I need it.

    You can pull the drive shaft out no problem great vid bud ! Ylbtw you can also put oil on the impeller and inside of case i like to put some gasket compound or some gasket maker between the lower unit and plate and between the plate and impeller housing some indian head works wonders for me ✊

    You would have better luck knowing that steering rod was the shifter and could have moved down more with shift lever

    Typical...another video showing all the easy stuff without explaining just how you actually reconnect the gear shaft to the coupler.
    You can mess about with it all day but if your gear shift is not in forward position and your lower leg gear is not in reverse, you'll never get it together...not with functioning forward, neutral and reverse gears...
