Actually, quite enjoyed his relationship with Elena. I found it very interesting and complex.

@@Ra-rv9bhI think all the originals were pretty watered down as they moved from Vampire Diaries to Originals. They likely never had an overarching purpose for Elijah besides his obsession keeping family together though, so for him to an extent their failure with the character makes a little sense. Except of course they took it all the way to the point of killing him off as a way helping Klaus to “do the right thing” “for once doing a good thing” to complete his arc being good for his daughter. Which was ridiculous and robbed Hope of Two family members for the price of one. 🤦♂️. Elijah was better in VD, and largely agree with people I’ve seen say he was scarier than Klaus when he was first introduced - really carried focused rage very rational compared to Klaus’ emotional reactional responses. On the other hand to being a servant to Klaus, not untrue at times, he chose Hayley over his brother when the whole golden dagger thing came up - which kinda find worse. So when they did give him his going away from serving Klaus story beats, it did fall flat. His piano playing into killing his supposed love of life when he forgets her/his family also a pretty bad storyline when broke away from following after Klaus 😅. Overall, he was 1000 times better in VD - the vampire who threw freaking quarters to shatter glass exposing sunlight to Damon/other vampires. The kind of guy doing that is more what they should’ve stuck with. And what was Elijah’s main characteristic of strong moral fiber should’ve been stuck to for defining him as different than Klaus - showing him trying to be better and epitome of class. Instead they seemed to think it a good thing having him go against his morals and what they celebrated as “the destruction of Elijah” I remember the writers saying in originals… Breaking the character down should never have been the goal - HE should’ve been the rock of the original family, that is what he always was in VD. In originals he became morally flexible at the drop of a hat supposedly only for the good of the family, to the point of killing Marcellus. I don’t think as he was originally introduced in VD he would’ve done that - so they did succeed in destroying the character, viewed from that lens. 🤷🏻♂️
@@Ra-rv9bh My point was that when he broke away from following Klaus, it was actually worse for his character. So I agreed that they structured his character following Klaus to a T and that was not good, but when he went against Klaus actually worse for his character. And more directly to what you said, it is implied by context he’d choose Hayley over Klaus if the situation came to it, and most definitely if it fit his trend in originals of any potential threat to the family he can do such things as disabling or killing said threat even if they’re family. As to Klaus not being in danger and that making it ok, that’s kinda debatable. The point of daggering is getting the person daggered out of the way, at times done for years - the main fear there is they would’ve left him daggered for Hopes entire lifetime if Dahlia hadn’t intervened. And as to him being safe that way - he’s disabled unable to move, so he could’ve been killed or more realistically his body moved and dropped into the ocean like Tristan planned… 🤷♂️. Otherwise yes, he did prioritize Klaus above the rest, moreso in the originals since technically he picked Rebekah over Klaus in VD for the cure.
