    So happy to see the increase in range as a focus for Panasonic & Tesla. A/C, entertainment & Sentry mode take up energy on a long trip. Increasing to 400 miles gets means some get to their 4hr+ drive non-stop or could remove an entire charge stop. I’d prefer to charge longer & grab lunch vs an extra stop.

    Love the content brotha! 396 miles sounds nice, but with the 4680 we all thought it would increase the range as well. Tesla is a leading innovator in anything EV and batteries at the moment, but I don’t think 400 mile range vehicle is something they will do soon, when Elon himself says it doesn’t make that much sense. The increase density of batteries, means more energy but I see it the way they used the 4680 recently. They will use less batteries, decrease the weight, and keep the mileage the same which in turn will increase the efficiency. Making it cheaper to build, more margin. Would love a 400 plus range vehicle, however I see tesla thinking business first over consumer.

    If you are not used to having car temperatures get close to 200° because you don’t live in a warm climate like Phoenix, then you may be surprised at how much electricity is used to keep your cabin cool. The average person may opt to forgo a little comfort to make sure they have more battery for a longer drive especially if they don’t have at home charging. It may scare them that their vehicle is using so much battery power.

    I think We will have the option to run the fans under high heat conditions without the air conditioner.
    Cars are a greenhouse. Visible light containing lots of energy goes through the glass and is absorbed inside. The infrared that radiates back up cannot get through the glass. That's the greenhouse effect.
    So in order to keep it cooler without AC you will have the option of running the fans to bring it outside air which is cooler.

    The range will not increase. The amount of cells will go down just as we saw with how they’re using the 4680 cells. The only thing that will get Tesla to increase range significantly would be competition and what could perhaps come as a new industry standard for each class of car.

    OK. This PG&E situation where they're compensating people for allowing them to use their powerwalls... if PG&E were to pay for new powerwalls and send people out to install them in people's homes, they could easily create a large power plant, while helping people who can't afford powerwalls to get the benefits of the powerwall. And PG&E wouldn't have to buy any land or run large wires through the ground or above ground. And... Powerwalls are virtually no maintenance for many years.
    I wonder if they and other power companies will adopt something similar.
    Seems like a great option. 👍

    • @dorvinion

      When you go to the configurator it defaults to the 20 inch wheels which is why you see 318.

    What does a 250kw charger do for a 75kw battery; does it supply 250kw per hour, does it allow 4 cars to charge at full speed at once, what benefit is there to move to 350kw chargers?

    • @andrewbell8282
      @andrewbell8282 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a 75 kWh battery, not a 75 kW battery. So it would take a 1 kW charger 75 hours to charge it, or a 75 kW charger one hour. So a 250 kW charger could, if it could charge at constant speeds, charge a 75 kWh battery in 75/250ths of an hour ( = 15/50 = 3/10 = 18 minutes) if it could charge it at full speed for the whole time. Note that normally one should only charge to about 80% with a supercharger, so 60 kWh gives us (60/250 = 6/25 = ~14 minutes)

    • @dorvinion
      @dorvinion ปีที่แล้ว +1

      350kW will help when they have bigger battery packs in future vehicles like the 500 + mile cybertruck.
      Its not much help for a 75kWh pack, but packs larger than say 120kWh would see a fairly sizable benefit

    So before taking the current path, musk asked Karpathy "are we going to win?" and karpathy said yes. Then they followed his vision for the hardware requirements and the software direction. Not entirely sure how heavy was his hand in the development of the hardware and policy, but it wouldn't surprise me if he had some input on Tesla's more bold moves like shortening the digit count for more throughput etc.
    So I think it's just a case of leaving the nest. They followed karpathy's vision, it's on its own and in capable hands now, and now he wants to go and revolutionize something else or pull a Yann LeCun and forcefully push the field forward.
    So much to be excited about in ai these days I'm surprised he stayed this far past the initial build and rollout. Karpathy's a visionary, not a bug hunter. Right now fsd is basically in refine and polish mode, his intellect is wasted on such efforts.

I'm sure executives are required to put in insane hours and be ONSITE which in this day and age, just begs for people with a life to say FU and leave. Often those that leave end up running alternate or complementary companies anyway and I'm sure their work/life balance is improved.
