1 or 2 pours a month for me.... 2024 I only bought 1 bottle.... I watch every Stuff & Whiskey and SLB video and many other channels too. I'm really picky with what I spend my money on, but don't mind spending high $ for a bottle even though my last purchase was a Sam's Club store pick of Knob Creek 9 120 proof which is delicious for only $44.
Gotta love that single barrel roulette..... My JD SB select is nothing but bitter, tannic oak. And my Blanton's tastes like a dark, rich, well aged product.
I have been impressed with Jack Daniel's over the past 2 years. In my opinion the name Jack Daniel's suffered from a negative connotation of a cheap bar pour and bad hangovers. Now it has evolved into a respectable pour with fantastic flavors and has a wide variety of offerings that can appeal to all ages and levels of drinkers.
Our typical rule of thumb is that anything in the "squat" Jack Daniel's bottles is probably a winner. Outside of single barrel variance and the odd off-profile bottle, that logic hasn't failed us yet.
I've been on a bourbon journey for just a year and never even considered buying a jack product. But I saw this single barrel a few weeks ago and bought it expecting nothing remarkable. I immediately bought a second bottle, it was soo good. I even bought old no 7 and again pleasantly surprised.
I’m a relative newb. I bought a Blanton’s and paid $100 for it. Wouldn’t buy it again even at MSRP but that’s me. My suggestion would be to find a pour of it and then decide what it’s worth to you.
I did the same. Spent 100 on my first bottle. I picked up a second bottle over a year later for 80. And when that goes, I doubt Im replacing it even at 80. I may replace it with that JD select SIB.
A local bar recently got samples to do a barrel pick of Blanton's. They had three options, they gave small samples to some of their customers to try, and they said that they would choose the barrel based on votes from customers. Two were quite similar, but one was unusual and off profile. None of them were bad, but it was interesting to see how variable Blanton's could be. I suppose this is to be expected from single barrel products. I've never found Blanton's to be good enough to justify the hype, though the bottle I have of the cask strength version is unusually good.
I got a blantons SBS late last year (2023) Had the barrel number on the sbs sticker so I emailed BT and asked for the info on that barrel. Came back as 4yrs 10months. Made a great Christmas gift for my boss. 😂😂😂
Blantons is a decent warmup pour and it’s a fantastic gift for someone just getting into bourbon. Outside of that, it’s a beautiful bottle and not much more.
I like the introduction used by S&W. If my wife and I did an intro it would be, " Hi, I'm Jack and this is my beautiful wife Jill. I'm a drunk and Jill is just a casual Lush." ---- Did the beautiful lady make that sweater?-- I am so pleased that the Jack was likeable! Can't wait to get a bottle and try it. I'm a newborn to enjoying Whisky. I learn from and enjoy your presentations very much. I Just ordered some high quality Crystal official whiskey glasses to test/drink from. I'm having fun. Thank you.
Nice blind! Completely agree! JD SB Select (45.00) is such a nice flavorful pour! When I give it to friends they can’t believe it’s Jack Daniels! JD Squat bottles are all very nice! Cheers!
The Blantons I bought in December tasted like a ramped up Eagle Rare, albeit on the thin side. Happy with that one. I need to pick up another Jack Daniels single barrel. Agree that it is better. It also makes a really good old-fashioned.
JD CS SB is my special occasions pour, the single barrel you had is a great every so often pour, love the peanut butter and banana that I taste, I can get it for under $40. Never had Blanton's, can't get it.
Looking forward to a S&W Blantons pick. I got very frustrated when your assessment of the Blanton’s bottle was so bad, since it is one of my favorite pours. It is a good lesson in variability of single barrel offerings. I have three bottles of Blanton’s because my first bottle was so delicious. Now I’m worried about the next one I open😬. I love my JD SB too!
Comparing single barrel's is tough. Most of the Blanton's bottles that I've tasted, minus a Gold store pick, have been good to great. Regular Blanton's goes for $79 retail in my area and it's pretty findable on allocation days if you skip your lunch hour. On the other hand, I've bought a JD lower proof single barrel store pick that was a drain pour. I also had a regular JD single barrel that was super delicious.
I bought a bottle of Blanton's because, well... I'm a whiskey nerd. Have never really been a big fan, to be honest. I will pour it if someone wants to try it, but it's not one I'd choose to drink ordinarily. JDSB and JDSB Barrel Proof, on the other hand, are some of my favorite pours. I agree wholeheartedly.
JD single barrel is always great,, Englishman in Mexico,, I can get it here regularly for 40 bucks, standard is just over 50 ,, it’s a go to ,, always easily the best value for money,, Enjoy yout new style contents ,, keep entertaining us all , Cheers ,, ardnamurchin barrel strength, Erin will love it ,, little peaty and so fruity. Not expensive either,, try it,, do yourselves a favour , cheers guys
I agree on the price and profile of blantons. I only keep then on the shelf for people who come over that want to try it and are excited by it! Other than that i don't really drink it or buy it
I had a bottle of regular Blanton’s and agree it was not that great. However, I’m told Blanton’s Gold is significantly better but I’ve never been able to get a bottle of it.
Had a jdsbs pick that like another commentor said... was damn near a drain pour. I've avoided them since. Jack seems consistently to improve with proof for me. Blantons is fine. If you want something sub 100 proof it's hard to beat... but I don't often want something sub 100 proof.
The bottle of Blantons I picked up at Buffalo Trace right before Christmas was bad when I first opened it. It had real sharp and bitter notes. After it sat for a 2 weeks, it got much better but "thin" is a spot on description of it. It also has absolutely zero finish....it just goes away completely.
Ive had a bad bottle of blantons and blantons SFTB. Very disappointing. when you get good ones, they're sooo good, when you get a bad one, it's a total waste of money.
These old things? Erin got me this one for our wedding years ago, and it's a vintage piece from her birth year. We also subsequently got her an almost-matching one from my birth year. Both reference 16013s from the early 80s with the only visible difference being that mine is a champagne dial and hers is a light champagne dial. Typically I only wear mine one for date nights and special "dress up" occasions, but it's quite comfy and sometimes fun to wear casually. Erin wears hers almost non-stop.
For the price and availability of the Jack Ddaniel's single barrel I would grab it everytime. I feel like this is one of the bottles that are so over looked just like Jack Daniel's bonded.
"Mid" is the same as mediocre. 🙂 I've not had the low proof Jack Daniel's Single Barrel, but the Single Barrel Barrel Proof is gorgeous. I have had a sample of Blanton's, and while it wasn't bad, I've had better for $30 right of the shelf. It definitely doesn't earn its reputation. I've also had a sample of Blanton's Straight From the Barrel, and it was good. But JD SBBP is better, and a ton easier to find.
I just got my first bottle of EH Taylor SmB for SRP at $47. It’s such a let down, along with most Buffalo Trace these days. I tried it next to Hard Truth high road rye (based on Erin’s recommendation), and EH Taylor just seems dull. I’ve had the same reaction to other bottles of Blantons that I’ve tried too. Oddly enough I just won a raffle for a bottle of Blantons at $79.99, now I’m thinking of donating it to a charity auction. It will do more good in the auction than me being dissatisfied with it for a few months.
We feel you there. When we can buy Blanton's at $80, it's almost always for gifting for charity purposes. Great bottle for it as so many want to try it and can't seem to find it.
Taste is subjective. You can give the same bourbon to 15 people and you will not get an agreement...you will get variations from terrible to awesome. I have tried whiskies or bourbons that someone wanted to introduce me to because they say it is the best they have ever had, and I thought the lacquer thinner in my shop was better. But I would never be insulting about it because my taste profile preference is different. I have 28 different bottles of whiskey/scotch/bourbon because I feel one over another over on any given day.
Mid is derived from mids, which is literally a weed term from the cannabis slang world for "regular". Mids, reggie, regular, regs, normal weed. AKA, not top shelf. Mid.
When she suggests it might be an old soured bottle of Blanton's it looks like you try to dispute her at first then come to the realization that she's probably right and then you just kind of Trail off saying it's not an old bottle because you haven't opened up a Blanton's in a really long time... which would kind of suggest it likely is the bottle she remembers?
I didn't do a good job of elaborating on that point amidst the conversation. We had a bottle of Blanton's that I opened and put in a bunch of head-to-head matchups, including this one, a long time back. It tasted fine at the time, and by fine--us not being huge fans of young Buffalo Trace products--meant it was middling to our palates anyway. This came across like young Buffalo Trace products usually do, albeit a bit more bitter than usual (as Erin often gets a sourness on young Buffalo Trace products). Could be the day and our palates, could be the sample, could be a variety of other factors. Taste is a difficult thing to pin down and speak to with any level of definitiveness as it's ever-changing.
I don’t drink much anymore, but l will not miss a S&W or SLB TH-cam video. I enjoy y’all’s content very much!
The jack wagons at alb talk too much. This edition was longer than it should be too.
😂 same. I almost never drink, but I love watching these.

@@bertblue9683 well glad I don’t need your approval to watch what I want.

I love seeing Jack beat out Buffalo Trace stuff! You get past No. 7 and Gentleman Jack and they have some great stuff! As always great video

Had a pour of Blantons last night and felt EXACTLY the same as you did here.
🗣️Blanton’s is just a trophy bottle. Great video!
There shouldn't be "bad" $85 bottles of ANYTHING!
Ive had a bad bottle of blantons and blantons SFTB. Very disappointing. when you get good ones, they're sooo good, when you get a bad one, it's a total waste of money.
Great match up. Why am I not surprised at the outcome? Cheers!
All I can say about Blanton's is this. It's very enjoyable to drink on it's own. But when you match it up against other pours, it fails every time.
I got three bottles of the Jack SB Select for $19.99 each at Costco!
You got a steal!
I can certainly sympathize with Erin. I should buy stock in Kleenex😂
Someone got a new Rollie for Christmas

You probably need more magnesium.

I think I have that same barrel of blantons 🤣
😂 😂

I don't think Blanton's is bad - I don't find anything offensive about it. The interesting matchup here is JDSBBP vs SFTB!
I just started watching the video and my opinion is that Jack Daniels is going to win.
I prefer JD👍
Lol what an intro
JD SB $35 at Total Wine & More.
my opinion of Blantons is its a 30 dollar whiskey in a 30 dollar bottle4 end of story!
The JD BP get 2 thumbs up from me.
Guys. I have had Blantons multiple times and each time it's disappointing. Way over priced.
Mid is derived from mids, which is literally a weed term from the cannabis slang world for "regular". Mids, reggie, regular, regs, normal weed. AKA, not top shelf. Mid.
