I have a friend who thought his transmission was shot. Lol just a seal
Well that’s good news. Big job to change that seal but way cheaper than a transmission.
looking at a classic that is clearly leaking ATF between the trans and motor. not sure i want to deal with that but looks easy enough.
There is also a pump bushing that can leak and push it through the front seal
This happened to me, and mine spewed all the fluid out and started slipping. Until it wouldnt move forward anymore (because no fluid left) and it got hot enough the fluid underneath caught fire. Whats the likelihood I need a reman transmission? Thats what the mechanic is trying to convince me to do and I told him I want to try a pump seal first and he said the labor charge is $850 for the seal
I could do it myself but i broke down 2 hours from home so im willing to pay the price to get it done
Wow, you probably did ruin the transmission. I mean you could take a chance with just replacing the seal but its like a 40/60 chance it will be good. The 60% is it will not.
@@Motorcarnut I learned by a photo I took that the cause of the fire was the transmission fluid splashing onto the exhaust
If that's the case does that help my odds
@@Motorcarnut luckily they said they will try the pump seal and bushing first then they will see if it runs through all the gears
What if I replace that and it's still leaking
You could of bent it while installing it especially if you didn’t use the special installation tool.
and if its a ford truck or commercial transmission the torque convert drain plug could be lose or missing ...Fact ...lol
You're my fucking hero. Bout to do this 👍
Lol, Thank you!
