The Velvet Rope is my favorite album by any artist. It's a masterpiece in my opinion - sonically, lyrically, vocally. Can't wait for you to dig into more of Janet's catalog.
The best live performance from this era is What About at the VH1 Vogue Fashion Awards. She would only sing the song she wanted or not at all. The standing ovation for her What about performance showed the show producers that Janet knows what to perform.
This was about 6 years before super bowl , really in her artistic element . I think you should do the velvet rope album review ….such an eclectic and timeless piece of music ……she can sing live but i think here it’s a pre recorded untouched vocal
@@bridgethegapreactions I’ve seen her twice and it was def worth it! Her shows were spectacular! The first time I was a bit surprised by her voice. She Sounds like she has a very soft voice and then it is SO strong live 🥳 And a great dancer! Edit: I first saw her live on the Janet tour 🤗
The Velvet Rope is also my favourite album of all time by any artist. I Get Lonely, Together Again, Got 'Til It's Gone, Go Deep and You are all great songs. Check out the Alright music video from Rhythm Nation 1814, Rhythm Nation music video and The Best Things in Life Are Free.
Go deep, runaway, that's the way love goes, control, when I think of you..... it goes on and on.... amazing!! 'Would you mind' live performances were super sexy too!!!!!❤
Ohhh I think you are in for a massive treat Jonny! What Ray of light is to Madonna is velvet rope for Janet. It’s extremely introspective you have to watch the videos with it. I think this will be your favorite Janet era… hmm it might be a toss up between this one and the Janet album. Maybe you should do a vote to see how many people would be interested in a Janet patreon page? I know I know it’s not that you aren’t busy now lol. I would definitely subscribe to it. Keep up the good work Jonny 🔥
She wasn’t lip-singing here as she’s mastered being able to dance and sing in tandem. The hat was just a design choice, she’s always giving us different looks. You should check out the video for this (not the remix, the original) and the entire videography and discography of The Velvet Rope. Even check out the Velvet Rope Tour from NY. U will see just how creative she is!! I so enjoy ur videos, lookn forward to the next! :)
It's absolutely a top 10 favorite of mine in her whole catalog because it has so much too it, her vocals (this was live btw) including all the harmonies, but instrumentally that organ is so Gospel, that bass is so Jazz & blues, the horns, it's all so soulful, it's a R&B masterpiece.I can't speak for the hat in this performance I don't know if it's the same as the hat in the video, but the hat in the video was Mick Jaggers hat that she had for a long time & recently auctioned it off with a ton of her stuff. The Velvet Rope era was about her addressing degrees of sadness, loneliness, depression & anxiety, so it wouldn't be a stretch that the hat covering her eyes is from that, but the way her brother had a deep love of 1 style of hat, Janet too had a deep love of various styles of hats so it might just be that too. But yea the fun of her discography & the leap you've done in between Rhythm Nation (1989)-The Velvet Rope (1997) her progression in her eras is so starkly difference, it reminds me of when I 1st became a fan I didn't get/listen to her albums in their release orders, when you do it in sequence you see hints of whats ahead in the previous work, but truly the majority of her albums are like independent pieces too, so jumping ahead is cool too. Hilariously I think this was my own 1st time seeing this specific performance too, or if I have it's been a very long time, either way it hit 1st time reaction feelings in me too, and now I can't do a video to it, but it was fun mutually reacting to something Janet with you lol. Yea I've seen the Rosie performance the most (it's truly 1 of her best performances, it's her sitting next to the piano with 1 of the producers Big Jim Wright also playing & singing with her) and the background singers and it's so intimate & she sounds amazing. And it's 1 of my favorite videos of hers too so you'll be hearing a lot of this I imagine & I look forward to every bit of it lol.
Definitely need to check out The Velvet Rope - probably my favorite Janet album! All the videos from that album are great, including the official one for this song.
MJ might have been a stronger dancer and a bigger star, but I've always liked Janet's music/performances/videos more. She has never released a bad album
I love them both equally and I agree Michael is definitely the biggest artist ever and nobody is as famous as him but Janet is by far the best female artist of all time because Janet has the second biggest impact after Michael and has influenced generations of artists and is the blueprint for every female artist and countless male artists as well not even Madonna has the impact Janet has Madonna may have sold more records than her and be the biggest selling touring artist of all time but if we put both of those aside Janet’s better and her impact is bigger and Janet has reached more people than Madonna also because Janet is the only artist besides Michael to have influenced not only American artists but K-pop artists jpop artists and Bollywood celebrities not even Madonna has that kind of impact
MJ wasn’t the stronger dancer, he was simply the first super star of the era and a man. There is no woman singing star who could match Janet's ‘s dance videos. Everyone female pop star after her you would find Janet’s dance moves in their videos and Shows. She and her choreographer were absolute stars in this era… don’r overlook the video “IF” and a live show in France in a TV studio, her Hawaii tour … so many brilliant shows!
I went to Together Again tour last month, and she slayed. My first Janet concert. What you witnessed in the video performance is what you'll get and more on tour. My only complaint is that she performed medleys mostly than full songs. Can't blame her, just like Madonna, she has a huge catalog. Also at times I couldn't tell if she was singing live especially with heavy choreography. But it was worth it for me. I would again.
@@jimmydaves And her former group, Shalamar as well. In fact, a lot of R&B artists get ignored. Only about three have reacted to Jody's "Still A Thrill'".
Tina Landon was her choreographer at the time (and one of the best in the industry in my opinion). In addition to this song, she choreographed some her most memorable routines including 'Together Again', 'All For You', and the iconic choreography for 'Scream' and 'If'. Thanks for this reaction, it's one of my favorite songs of TVR.
Awesome reaction..really enjoying your reactions! This song is amazing! I actually disliked this song when I first heard it until I saw the music video...made me love it to death lol. One of my all time favourite song now. This performance is very iconic, you had Kelly Rowland who paid homage to this performance with one of her MTV performance.. She didn't get the standing ovation here but she got it with another performance "What About" at the VH1 Fashion awards. Another song from the Velvet rope album. 100% worth checking out and the performance is fire 🔥
Also from The Velvet Rope album - a song called What About - definitely check out her live performance of this one at the VH1 Fashion Awards. Very powerful performance of a powerful song, and she spends most of it sitting down, yet it's still up there with her most powerful performances. Gives me goosebumps everytime i watch it.
That was the stiff and stuffiest unapprecieative audience I have ever seen. They were experiencing greatness and didn't fully acknowledge it with a standing ovation. Janet has great style , leading the way for other female artists to follow suit. Kelly Roland did a video using the same type of style. GREAT REVIEW THOUGH !
It was 7 months ago have you done any more songs from this. What about is on this album a song she wrote about her own violence and abuse she suffered.
Easily one of my least fav Janet songs and videos. The Velvet Rope Tour was such a depressing show. To go from the light, fun, janet. album and tour to the dark and depressing The Velvet Rope was such a let down for young adult me. 👎🏼
The choreography is unmatched!
Tina Landon!
The Velvet Rope Era was UNMATCHED!!
The Velvet Rope is my favorite album by any artist. It's a masterpiece in my opinion - sonically, lyrically, vocally. Can't wait for you to dig into more of Janet's catalog.
I agree it is a masterpiece album
Janet Jackson swag is unmatched
Janet does an amazing ACAPELLA version of this on the Rosie O'Donnell show!
You means acoustic version. But yes that performance was awesome!
Janet will always be my favorite!!! She is amazing 👑
I just filmed a reaction to Escapade - it'll be up in a day or two..!
The best live performance from this era is What About at the VH1 Vogue Fashion Awards. She would only sing the song she wanted or not at all. The standing ovation for her What about performance showed the show producers that Janet knows what to perform.
the official video for this song is as masterful as this performance. This song and the entire Velvet Rope era was/is unparalleled.
Love love her best female entertainer of her time!! Just like big bro!!❤❤❤❤

I really enjoy your Janet reactions, often think she’s massively overlooked

Best version of this is on the velvet rope live at madison Square garden. This just didnt have the same energy
Janet was sensual and sexual way before the Superbowl incident. That's why I'm completely shocked that America was shocked
I believe the hat was given to her by Mick Jagger.
That is an excellent fact.
