    I've used that exact model slingshot for years. But I use fishing line. I walk the line off the spool the approximate length I think I need and then fire. The line rarely hangs up and the bean bag slides right down. Then I tie on a length of chord and pull it up and over. Then I just throw out the fishing line. You get a higher throw because there is virtually no wait from the fishing line as compared to that chord used in the video. I have the same exact chord and never used it. It came with the kit and I knew instantly it was way too heavy and rough to be of use.

    I got one of those after watching your videos and following how you launch antennas in trees. I also have three throw bags: 14, 10, and 8 oz. Awesome device. Thanks for posting.

    Looks good :) I use a small plastic bottle half filled with water attached to about 4 feet of thick cord, which I swing round and throw over trees or into branches (I hold the cord when I swing the bottle round so it doesn't cut into my hand). On the end of the short cord I use light, thin kite line, which allows the bottle to easily fall to the ground. Once that's in place, I use the kite line to hoist a nice strong rotary clothes line up into the tree, then attach one end of a 135 foot off centre fed dipole onto the clothes line and hoist that up. I have to do this twice (once for each end of the dipole). Getting the line in the right place is my biggest problem. Something like this could be just what I need! :)

      Paul Graham yeah my first video was using a water bottle and that's good for about 25 feet. This thing will shoot 100 plus

    I built something similar it uses a Zebco 33 fishing reel and a Wristrocket Sling shot and the reel is mouned on a piece of dowel under the Sling shot. use a 1oz weight. Shoot it over the limb you want then just hoiste your para cord over after you attach it to the fishing line. I built mine 30 years ago and it still works great and you can build it for around $30.00.

    Use a heavier throw bag to pull line down better. Pneumatic launchers are easier to use and go higher and the pressure controls the height so it is easy to be consistent. Be safe and have fun!

      I love that idea..I'll give it a try and thanks for watching.

    Used mine for the first time today. WOW!!! A must have for all hams. BTW, where did you get the bag and line?

    I've been tweaking the classic Wrist-Rocket line launcher for about 20 years now, and can throw my line at least that high; more under ideal conditions. There's a learning curve, and you have to take design and maintenance seriously, but it's smaller and it works. Just something for interested hams to consider.
    As you learned here, the real skill is finding the messenger and finessing it back down out of the tree. The throw itself is easy to master.

    I imagine the next step is tying your antenna support rope to that pilot rope and then hoisting the antenna support rope into the tree, then do that process again in a second tree with a second antenna support rope if you want a horizontal wire antenna like a wire dipole, then hoist the two ends of the antenna into the two trees and you should be good to transmit.

    nice! looks a lot easier than throwing! I never get it on the first throw, sometimes it takes several attempts. Kind of a pricey tool. I bet that you could shoot it at a lower angle and get some distance across a field!

    • @hamradiocq
      @hamradiocq  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is for an upcoming video... see how far I can shoot. : ) Yes, this "tool" (toy) is NOT a recommended purchase.

      I don't like the price at all, but geez.....it launched that weight into the top of that tree effortlessly!

    Thanks for the demo. I would like to recommend some eye protection. There is a lot of energy stored in the device when launching and if something goes wrong you could easily injure your eyes. Trust me, I know!

    How high did it travel? As far as where you released. I bought the trigger and I’m trying to guess where to put the trigger to get a 12oz weaver bag about 65 to 70 ft. I’m putting up a EFHW in the trees around my yard. I have a range finder and the top of the pine trees range around 66ft.

      This thing is over kill my friend. Easily shoots 100-130 feet in the air. It's ridiculous.

    Where might I find that folding box for your line? I have envied it for about 6 months. Thank you for your time.

      Ebay search for "tree line throw bag" or something like that. It helps keep the twine from tangling and makes for easy transport. Tangles are a HUGE problem even for this bag.

    a BIG problem with ALL of these designs is.... when the projectile gets up in the limb... it has a tendency to wrap around what ever it can... and now you got one hell of a mess.... either the limb breaks when you pull on it, the rope breaks and leaves your projectile up there forever.... or it comes back out easily..... FYI the last one seldom if ever happens.... use thin line you can break.. And be prepared for the usage of 4 letter words!!!

    • @hamradiocq
      @hamradiocq  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      wrong, this goes up and down and thin line slides through. Only fishing line does what you say... or maybe you don't know what you're doing.

    Wouldn’t a drone be faster and better?

    • @hamradiocq
      @hamradiocq  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If this is a serious question.... drones are expensive and loud and attract a lot of attention. I had a commenter tell me he gets lots of questions about his drone in parks. I don't like attention. They are expensive and you have batteries and controls and more pieces to worry about. Also, now the good drones are becoming MUCH more restricted. The DJI ones won't even fly if you are 5 miles within an airport...which is everywhere. I still want a drone someday, but I want it for aerial footage....

    • @outlawtrucker42
      @outlawtrucker42 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AnythingWithWheels yes it was a serious question. The hams here use them all the time for field day at the local park to run there lines in the trees to get there dipole lines up.

    • @hamradiocq
      @hamradiocq  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bad Company-50 biker I will say I can pinpoint inside the tree with this thing if woods are tight where I'd be afraid to fly a drone. I'm not telling anyone to buy this thing I just know arborists use jt to get their climbing ropes up

      AnythingWithWheels be my luck I would brake the thing and it would come back and slap me in the face😁.

    try try again I use a wrist rocket with 20# line and a 1oz weight. Field day is just around the corner i'm going to use a EFHW this year and my ft817. 73 from ki0ad/jim
