im maori from new zealand and i think this chant is very calming and soothing to listen to, plus even though it sounds like tongan mostly......i can sort of understand abit of the chant...only a little bit ...not all.........mahuru tonu koutou mo tenei moteatea humarie....mauri ora uvea mo futuna!!! "thank you for letting us listen to this calming chant....thank uvea mo futuna!!!"

It sounds Tongan because this is what Tongan orignally use to sound like - Wallisian is more closer to the original polynesian dialect.

I'm Tongan and I've never seen any other culture so similar to ours than 'Uvea. Talanoa & Fakamatala means Speak & Tell/Explain in lea faka-Tonga. Also the singing, it's the old way of singing and we still chant like this. If you don't believe me, watch "Hala kuo papa, by Atenisi.." Ofa atu ki 'Uvea mei Tonga.

All Polynesia chants sound the same. I've listened to allot from Tokelau, Tuvalu, Samoa, Tonga and others. I don't think the papalagi messed up our connection. It was just the migration of poly people to other islands. Culture and language of Polynesians are all similar. Proud to be Polynesian.

@@mapatukuafu7337 we only started using the "ng" like 40 - 50 years ago when Tupou IV came into power. Before that it was just g with the ng sound, same with S it was spelled with a J, eg; Jiaoji. The b was used before p, eg; Tohitabu.. Tupou IV wanted to, in a sense, modernize the Tongan language thinking it'd be more practical to spell what we say properly rather than spell with letters that have a different pronunciation in the english language.

It appears that the text you provided is in the Tongan language and is a traditional form of storytelling. Translating poetry and traditional storytelling with cultural nuances can be challenging, but I'll do my best to provide a general translation:
    "Informative Conversation
    By the gentle breeze
    I sit under the mountain
    To engage in a dialogue
Under the shade of the old tree
And for the sake of the people
    (Repeat chorus x2)
How will you answer the challenge?
Will you accept the return invitation?
Through the winding and interweaving journey
There, the heroes stand, displaying courage
Please, softly your voices, my friends
And the sacred touch and gesture
    To deliver my message
    Open your eyes, my friends
To respond, and carry the essence
Don't hesitate to bear the weight
    (Repeat chorus x2)
Please note that this translation is a rough interpretation, and there may be nuances or cultural elements that are not fully captured. If you have specific questions or need further clarification about any part of the text, please feel free to ask.
