The Sixers are under the salary cap though. Clippers are still going to be paying luxury tax on their current team with no PG on it.
What clippers did is get below the tax aprons. So now they have the ability to sign player trade players easier bring in waived players that they couldn’t before because of the CBA rules. What not signing PG did was open a door that was completely locked before

The main reason why Clippers shut that Warriors trade down: they were fed up with helping other teams at their expense. It didn't matter if Dubs threw in former savior Chris Paul as a means to spark a reunion, a second chance, patch things up after how he left them to Rockets (and defeated Clippers twice in playoffs), but Clippers were not going to be abused like that. "If I'm not contending, nobody is - I'd rather let George walk than help Warriors return to dominance, and if I'm going to be irrelevant, I'm taking Warriors with me and everyone else who messes with me."
And in a way, they're not wrong. Teams who have defeated the Clippers in the playoffs ended up winning the title or having deep runs. Jazz (1997), Warriors (2019) and Mavericks (2024) have all made the NBA Finals simply by drawing the Clippers in the 1st round. When they were in the east and known as the Buffalo Braves, Celtics added two championships to their trophy hall by simply drawing the Braves. Let's not get into the draft mismanagement, long history of catastrophic injuries, the Donald Sterling stuff, and everything else because it's all common knowledge up to this point.
Clipper's greatest weakness is wanting to be loved, respected and worshiped like Lakers, and they fear being irrelevant. This is worse than irrelevancy. All the picks given to the Thunder have a chance at becoming no. 1 if they tank. And they can't compete because the pieces they have are subpar, injury-prone, or only in it for the money. Now the Clippers are a barnstorming franchise, a player showcase for other teams to swoop in and acquire for their own playoff runs, while the Clippers only get twilight veterans, red flag players and troublemakers in return. They'll be in the lottery working for Thunder, but also helping other teams win titles at their expense.
In the context of the 2019 trade, yes it looks disastrous for the clippers. But in the context of right now, I really think not paying Paul George a four year max contract was the correct move. Keeping roster flexibility and being able to sign a bunch of young and athletic defenders to take the pressure off of Kawhi is definitely a positive
There's nobody they can bring in to replace Paul George, and they don't have any draft picks til 2030. The team that signed Paul George actually owns a couple of those picks
This was a L for the Sixers. They have no Cap flexibility now. They have 3 players on Max contracts. The Clippers can now maneuver around the cap and fill spots with good role players

I really don’t see how any objective NBA fans can’t say this is a huge win for the sixers. The spacing alone makes perfect sense and with Joel having such a bad history with injury drummond lightens the load a little bit we don’t need Drummond to score a bunch of points We need him for rim protection because the past Two seasons if Joel was off the floor, it was an automatic 12-0 run for the other team
It’s clippers fans coping hard. What they don’t know is that the 76ers are in win now mode. Embiid is injury prone, PG13 is injury prone, but they are banking on the chance they stay healthy and make/win the finals. I’m not a 76ers fan, but I respect it.

I don't think the the clippers could trade him my guy, he had a player option. So teams couldn't trade for him unless he got on a new deal, and the clippers could not get him on a deal. PG had all the leverage. If he gets traded to a team he doesn't want to play for he just declines his player option. Paul George did this to them more then they did it to themselves as far as trading him.

LOW seriously how can you call this the worst trade in NBA history when another one exists that actually led to a title and made no sense for the team that agreed to it- 3 1sts for mid to late 30s pierce and Garnett. You're right that this was a disappointment, but it was fair value to give that up for a guy who just won a title and coming off an elite playoff run and a guy who finished top 3 in MVP and DPOY voting. At least this deal made sense.
