One of the most beautiful rivers in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the beautiful Neretva has carved an incredible canyon in its course that leaves all those traveling on the M-17 highway breathless.
The Neretva is a 230 km long river, which mostly flows through Bosnia and Herzegovina (208 km), and a smaller part, before entering the Adriatic Sea, through Croatia (22 km). It is the longest tributary of the Adriatic Sea from the east coast. It springs in the mountainous regions of high Herzegovina, below the Jabuka mountain (Zelengora branch).
The Neretva has been known since the Greek period. The Greek colony of Narenta, which was located upstream from today's Metković, was named after her. The old names for Neretva were Nera or Narenta. In ancient times, the Neretva was known from today's Jablanica, where the Narensi Illyrian tribe lived.

Jedna od najljepših bosanskohercegovačkih rijeka, ljepotica Neretva u svom je toku isklesala nevjerovatan kanjon koji ostavlja bez daha sve one koji putuju magistralnim putem M-17.
Neretva je rijeka duga 230 km, koja najvećim dijelom protječe kroz Bosnu i Hercegovinu (208 km), a manjim dijelom, prije ušća u Jadransko more, kroz Hrvatsku (22 km). Najduža je pritoka Jadranskog mora s istočne obale. Izvire u planinskim predjelima visoke Hercegovine, ispod planine Jabuke (ogranka Zelengore).
Neretva je bila poznata od grčkog perioda. Po njoj je ime dobila grčka kolonija Narenta, koja se nalazila uzvodno od današnjeg Metkovića. Stara imena za Neretvu bila su Nera ili Narenta. Neretva je u starom vijeku bila poznata od današnje Jablanice, gdje je živjelo ilirsko pleme Narensi.
