    This was simply a fun object lesson for the students on hoof depth. Next time our students trim a horse, they will ask themselves if they could eat cereal out of it. If they can, it might still be a tad long.

      I would have loved to see you tackle the rest of his hooves.
      That back left still had a shoe on it. I'll bet he is much more comfortable after all of that excess was removed from his front left.

    I never imagined that a horse could be so smoochable! Lol....what a beautiful, sweet face on that animal. Wonderful work on that hoof. You know you've got to be good when you're able to make it look so easy...really, really nice skill to have. I wish I knew of a good school here in Southern Arizona.

      We shoe around 20 horses daily. Between my wife filming, our 4 young kids and 25 students, it is a miracle to find time to film anything at all! Thanks for supporting our small business!

    Beautiful job. I've heard of draft horses hooves being referred to as big as dinner plates. But the bowl is a whole new meaning 😅. Thank you for sharing.

    The horse looks so chilled and relaxed, like he's smiling. Obviously the horses must feel relief and comfort to get their hoofs put right. But do the horses enjoy getting their hoofs trimmed?

    That was at least a year’s overgrowth that was taken off. Can I ask where these horses are from that you use in your videos please? Are they auction rescue horses? Beautiful job by the way. 🙏🏻 The horse must be so much more comfortable after that.
    Here in the UK, if a horse was left with feet unchecked like that, it would be classed as a neglect case. Horses aren’t considered livestock here and are protected by strict welfare laws, thankfully.

    I go back and watch many of these videos. The variety of problems is staggering, surely many hoof problems can affect balance. Like seeing the specific care for each hoof and clearly the difference between how the horse can function simple as a horse, working, or with a rider.

    I just love watching your videos, so therapeutic! This also reminded me to book my farrier for next week!! My farrier doesn't clean the frog much like you guys do, guess things are done slightly differently here in New Zealand.

      Yes. He doesn't need shoes. No visible problems aside from the length. They've done plenty of barefoot trims.

    What do you mean by barefoot horse. I imagine it will not be shod - but is this unusual? I don’t own a horse but watch a lot of these videos as they’re so interesting. But I thought all horses needed shoes….

    This method of triming seems much more humane than the Chinese long flat knife method. No one is twisting lips or clamping down ears or whipping the horse.

      Or, another guy uses a power hand planer to whittle them down.! Don't you know the equine just love that noisy thing.!!

      @@LogisticallyMisrepresented Using nippers enables the farrier to keep the correct angles and balance of the foot, by doing everything slowly and checking all the while. Just hacking at the foot shows no concern for the delicately balance structure.

    Long hooves are only because of lack of care. Same as the long belly hair on that horse.....this time of yr is ridiculous.
