I’ve referred to this video so many times to make bags I feel like a stalker. 😂😂😂 I’ve watched other videos for boxed bags but your explanation just clicks the best with my brain 🧠 I love that there is no gap in the lining that requires hand stitching to close or machine stitching that doesn’t blend in. Even though it’s inside the bag, it just looks so much neater in the end having the gap near the zipper! Helped me perfectly “wrap” a few birthday gifts and Christmas gifts this past year. Thank you! ☺️
aww thats wonderful!! I'm not a big fan of hand sewing or bias binding my edges so this was the best solution imo! i'm working on a new box pouch tutorial with the same style of construction but with some added features such as zipper pockets on the outside so look out for that coming soon!
I've spent waaaay too much time watching all the boxed bag tutorials--but YOURS TOTALLY CLICKED with me!! I love the design, love your explanations, love your voice. Thanks so much! Everyone (even the menfolk) will be getting adorable zipper pouches for gifts this year. Thank you!!!!!
Aaaand I just finished!! It is a sweet sized bag that would fit a cell phone, a granola bar, a tube of Burt's Bees, some cash/keys/debit card, a pack of gum or mints and pair of tickets to a show. Nice. I'm going to try upping the size for gifting! :)
This is by far the best Tutorial for this boxy pouch . It can be frustrating to make this bag , that space/gap next to the zipper is a great idea. It makes a BIG difference. Thank you.
This was the first box pouch method I tried a few years ago. Tried recently with a different tutorial but it was SO much more complicated. Your tutorial is hands down the best method! It can be a little tricky on the first go when you get to the gusset part but once you figure it out it’s the best, fastest method!
Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial!! I made two of them; I messed up the first one, tweaked it a bit, and then my second one came out perfect! I used a medium-weight interfacing for the outside fabric, and instead of using interfacing on the liner fabric, I added a piece of clear vinyl over/next to it to make the interior easy to wipe clean while still color-coordinating with the outside. It was my first time ever making a box pouch and my first time ever working with vinyl. This video was super easy to follow, even during the most frustrating part of sewing the box corners. Thanks!!
aww thats wonderful! Sewing is a never ending learning process and even now that im 34 years old and i have been sewing since i was 8 or 9 im still learning new things! Such an exciting hobby and an awesome one to have! Great Choice! Happy sewing
Lovely lesson. I have some lovely Australian fabrics and my son is going to Ireland to meet his partner’s family and I just wanted to send some small gifts, which were light to pack but couldn’t find a pattern for zipper pouches with hidden seams. I’m thrilled with this tutorial and look forward to getting down to my projects. Thank you❤️
I just love this pattern and tutorial! I made several of these in 2019 and just went back looking for your tutorial again! Thank you so much, just in case I didn’t put a comment in before.
Hi, i have just bought my first sewing machine and was looking for a pouch to sew as my first project, i saw this one and thought ooh cute unicorns my 3 yr old would love that! As its my first project ill watch your video, pause and ask questions so im sorry for all my commetns haha but im 34 and have never sewn!
Just made my first ever box pouch following this tutorial - I'M SO HAPPY with the result! Thank you, Ashley! I didn't think this would come to anything because I had to undo so many seams (I just can't seem to do anything right the first time). But when I turned it - AWESOME! Word of caution: don't use linen like I d did. The creases from turning will never come out 😂. All the same - I got a lovely first box pouch. To top it all off I used my first ever tiny crumb quilt as a front panel. This, too, turned out nicely. Even if the two small projects took up my whole weekend...
As I'm watching my mind goes to the someone who invented this technique. WOW!!! Like.....how? Where did you start?? Simply incredible!!!! Thank you for sharing.
Saw this tutorial this morning and dropped everything and made one! How cute. It is just what I needed to keep a few sewing notions. Gonna make a few more as this is the perfect little bag to keep things organized. Thanks for the great tutorial!!!
Genious!! As I am learning to complete more sewing projects, I notice that I am developing a taste for all things with no raw edges - I simply hate seeing raw edges now!- I love how you explain this project and I love learning your technique. Thank you so much for this great post :-)
haha i as well have this issue, im always on the hunt to figure out how to make things without raw edges and if i can swing it no bias tape also! Thank you for your sweet comment :D
Ashley I’ve watched at least 4 of your videos, you’re so talented! This pouch is adorable, it’d be perfect for makeup! My brother Joey G recommended your channel to me, keep up the great work! 💕
aww Thank you Alex! i send you a message over on Instagram, would love to chat with you! so funny your brother mentioned he has a G7X camera and i was just like thats a great vlogging camera and then he mentioned you! haha so impressed by your channel i love your videos!
Just made this little pouch and is a little tricky on the corners but it’s amazing, thank you for the tutorial, I will keep practicing to master the corners
Great tutorial! The pouch came out super cute! My daughter absolutely loves it and has been showing it off at school! How can I go about making a larger box pouch? Do you have measurements for a bigger box pouch? Thank you!
Hello there! Thanks so much for sharing this tutorial in English! I learned this technique from a Japanese lady and had to wing it! Very nice and thank you so much for sharing and mostly for your time! Blessings
I recently made this and though it turned out great it was incredibly small. I didn't really clue in till I was trying to do the box corners and was struggling with my ginormous hands. When I turned it all right side out I just started laughing, it was meant to be a pencil case for my wife.
Thanks! I wonder if it would still work if instead of leaving a gap in the zipper edge, a gap was created by using TWO pieces of lining fabric and leaving a gap where they’d be joined and thus only having a small bit of seam to connect INSIDE on the floor of the pouch? Also for those new to iron on stiffener DO NOT put the sticky side UP or it will make a big mess on your iron
I love this tutorial, but I would like to make this more into a larger makeup/travel size bag, how would I increase the size of this to adjust for that. thanks
Great tutorial. Is there a way to make one of your awesome zipper pouches with no raw edges and the lining attached, just like this one? Would love to make something like that as well. Thanks for all your wonderful videos.
Yes!! I just happened to comment on a tutorial last week why she didnt make it without raw edges. I think that is so annoying and unnecessary. Nice tutorial!
I love this pattern and your tutorial!! Can you help me out? I'd like to make this same pattern but in a bigger size for a men's or women's toiletry case and I don't know how to determine the measurements, especially for the boxed bottom. Can you advise me? TIA!
Suzy Wernet I made my pouches a bit bigger than this one. The measurements I used were 13.5” x 19” with a 1/2” seam allowance. I cut the corners to 1.75” square, and again used a 1/2” seam. It came out exactly how I wanted it to. :)
Hey Ashley, I'd like to upsize this to a bigger box pouch, but am quite new to sewing. Any advice on making larger measurements? And what a fab tutorial, thanks a million! :)
sad to say i am not very good at math.. i usually just make box pouches in different sizes until i get the size i want haha I will direct you to a blog post for a previous box pouch i made. you can grab those measurements if your interested they are for a larger pouch perfect for toiletries. take those measurements and apply the techniques in this video and you will be golden! charmedbyashley.com/quilted-box-make-bag-sewing-tutorial/
@@Charmedbyashley Oh you're a bloody sweetheart, I'll do just that. And thanks so much for the quick reply as I'm trying to whip up a few quick last minute xmas presents! :)
Can you please please do a zipper pouch tutorial using the same technique with one piece for the lining and one piece for the outer, but not a box bottom just a straight edge. I've been searching literally for years to find a makeup pouch tutorial for this and yours is so close, except I don't want a box bottom and that kind of threw me off.
Interfacing is not crucial, you can also use a thicker fabric to create stability or back a pretty fabric with a stiffer fabric, if you just used cotton fabric with no stabilizer then would just probably not stand up on it's own, it would still work on the end though lol
Hey Ashley, this is genius. I really want to give it go but I can't find your blog post on your website. I searched for boxed pouch but nothing comes up. Could you please give us more specific link for this tutorial? Thanks xx

This is by far the best Tutorial for this boxy pouch . It can be frustrating to make this bag , that space/gap next to the zipper is a great idea. It makes a BIG difference. Thank you.
This is genius! I have made a lot of these bags, but this is the best! If you had a reversable zipper, the bag could even be reversable.

It can be a little tricky on the first go when you get to the gusset part but once you figure it out it’s the best, fastest method!
Thank you so much for this video! I already sewed a couple of these pouches and they're awesome!🥰
I have seen a bunch of these bags with no exposed seams but they are all so complicated. This is the best way to do it! thank you!

Love that the zip goes down to the side of the pouch so you have full access to the contents. Thanks so much for sharing 🤗
Whoa!!!! The hole in the zipper was mind blowing! Thank you for sharing. 💕
Game changing - thanks for sharing! Seems so simple now I’ve seen it but the rawness of boxy bags have always erked me!

Any one can do a zippered pouch. But, you've done it with no raw edges! Makes it look so finished and professional.

With the exception of my thumb tabs being on the inside of the bag, it looks wonderful.
Seen many many ways in 32 years of no raw seams and this is genius! ty
Those extra steps make an even better pouch. That is a different way to make the box shape. Cute, Thanks!
such a neat way to make an ordinary box pouch!

Wow it was a struggle with those corners but I did it! Next time will be easier for sure.
Using a gap in the zipper to turn it inside out? Mind blown! Genius!

Great tutorial. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for this tutorial. I made my mom a box pouch using this technique. And fixed one where my lining was too baggy

sandy olivares I learnt this technique from a Japanese lady on TH-cam too. I just made another box pouch with this technique.
I recently made this and though it turned out great it was incredibly small. I didn't really clue in till I was trying to do the box corners and was struggling with my ginormous hands. When I turned it all right side out I just started laughing, it was meant to be a pencil case for my wife.

This is a great idea! I messed up with the corner boxing though. It’s kinda tough to get just right.
Would love to see this as a bigger box pouch!!!
So cute! “Whitney sent me”and I am happy she did😊👋!!!🤠
Welcome!!! Thx for stopping by 😍😍
I absolutely love it
I'm so glad I found your video! What are the finished dimensions? Thanks.
An excellent tutorial and a very cute bag.
Is there an easy way to change the size of the bag!? Omg! That is genius!! Thank you!
Love it! Awesome tip!
At the end of the day you are brilliant. 😊
This is an EXCELLENT tutorial. I'd been leaving the hole at the bottom. I like this much better.

Thank You so much... you are a great teacher !
I have some Unicorn fabric, so next time I make a pouch I'll be using your *no raw edges* tutorial - thank you :)
Great tutorial! May I ask what is the finished size please?
Great job! Thanks for sharing 🙂
I love this tutorial, but I would like to make this more into a larger makeup/travel size bag, how would I increase the size of this to adjust for that. thanks

Thank you! they are hard to come by i tell you haha
Would you mind sharing the other tutorial.
Love the tutorial I was wandering to make it more sturdy can you use a stronger interfacing or foam?
You sure can! Your child of interfacing is just dependang on how sturdy of a product you would like :)
Be the boss of the fabric!😉
Yes!! I just happened to comment on a tutorial last week why she didnt make it without raw edges. I think that is so annoying and unnecessary. Nice tutorial!
So neat and pretty. Thank you 💙
Great tutorial.
Great pouch video! 🧵💕
I intend to use thicker denim for the outer fabric.Does it make it harder to turn out from the "hole"?
Please can you tell me what interfacing your using, as all this is new to me. Thanks
This is a pellon medium weight interfacing
I love it! Thanks for sharing!
That was amazing!!
I like the contrasting bottom! You could use something more durable, especially for a man.
I love this pattern and your tutorial!! Can you help me out? I'd like to make this same pattern but in a bigger size for a men's or women's toiletry case and I don't know how to determine the measurements, especially for the boxed bottom. Can you advise me? TIA!
