If you flip the rope over the back end and then turn her so she steps over the rope with her front it will save you a lot of riding around her when you dump her over, that a trick my grandpa showed me when I was 8-10 and I love it

I love that your mount is bit-less. Your horse thanks you!

To be honest with you I use a bit on him now. It isn't the hackamore he appreciates or the bit but how I use it on him.

Drew Persson ~ I’m well aware and I’m not necessarily against bits, hackamores or mechanical hackamores but, I’m of the mindset that if it’s not necessary than there’s no reason to use one. I’ve ridden a multitude of horses for about 44 of my 47 years. As you know, every horse and every rider is different as well as the situations and disciplines they are riding in. I’ve ridden with bit-less bridles, Hackamores, snaffles, low ported Kimberwicks, low and high ported curbs, chains, no chains, short shanks, long shanks, double reins, tie downs, split reins, etc. I’ve ridden Hunter, reining, a little dressage (which I quickly took a dislike to) poles, barrels and such. My favorite has always been endurance and Hunter Paces. My QH was excellent at many disciplines but, came from a riding program where he’d become desensitized and as much as I hate the term tough mouthed. So, we started with stronger bits and over the years moved to much lighter ones as he learned that I would not yank him around but, move him forward with legs instead. While camping in the state forest, I once allowed a friend of my husband’s take him out while my husband was on my Thoroughbred. The jackass thought it would be fun to race my husband back to the campsite and when he reached us, gave my QH a nasty tug to stop him. He was wearing about a 1-1/4 inch port at the time and when the guy pulled him back he thought it was so “wild” as my horse fought him against the bit and did it again. He caused my horse to back away from the bit, rear up and fall over nearly injuring himself and bruising up the asshole real good. He tried blaming my horse! I never let another person on my QH...not even my daughters who were both good riders. I promised him that nothing like that would ever happen to him again. 😞

That was so cool learned a lot just now! I work on a ranch in CA little over 200 head. I’m new to roping so much to learn thanks for the video. How do you tie it off to your horn when you hop off to doctor something? Maybe show that’s in future video thanks!

MrDonnyboy420 I am glad you liked it and good luck with your roping. I am planning on making another couple videos soon and I will add how I tie off on one of them.

MrDonnyboy420 there’s a few different ways you can do it, some guys don’t tie they take their rope with them and pull or feed slack as needed, I know a good few that tie off like this guys does, myself I like a double half hitch and a set of hobbles around the neck but it’s comes down to what works best for you

50 foot Mexican rope is the longest I have used. Usually a 40 foot braided rope from Kings. The team ropes all stare at them as if it is a 2 headed rattler.

This rope is actually about 80 feet. If I take it to a branding it wares my arms out pretty fast.
