Oh wow. I was seventeen in 1979. I had forgotten some of these local long gone companies. Stewart N King and Stern GMC trucks. Veteran CKY announcer Ray Torgrud voice over at end of clip.

I didn't realise W5 did a Supertramp piece. Which is amusing because W5's theme music for years was an instrumental section of Supertramp's "Fool's Overture,"which can be heard in the ad.
Canada was Supertramp's most successful market. Canada was the only country where they had number one singles. "Dreamer" and "The Logical Song." Their albums Crime of the Century and Breakfast in America were both certified diamond for sales of more than one million albums each, 10 times Canadian platinum.

5:26 - "Circus" promo - The great Billy Van as the clown. For one season, he was a regular on the show.

Breaks from 13:50 up until the video ads aired on November 25, 1979 between 6:00 and 8:00 PM CT. Breaks from 0:00 to 10:40 of the video aired on September 20, 1979 between 7:00 and 8:00 PM CT. And I think this compilation has the oldest long-form commercial break compilation from Canada that isn't from a sporting event. It is a whopping 44 years young.

Out of curiousity, how did you nail down the exact dates? Old TV listings?

I have this from prior to September 20, 1979, but the taping didn't have much in terms of network or local TV promos. th-cam.com/video/P-x7jZo1bfY/w-d-xo.html

Similarly I have some 1977 stuff, but not much for local content in it.

I remember an Alia/Tan-Jay commercial I'd love to find

I know the one you are talking about. I'm looking for it as well. That commercial was basically burned into my brain. Was it a gal who wore the tight red slacks?

@@vancegosselin yeah I remember it kind of looking very 80s with some models walking around and a woman’s voice singing Alia. I mean it’s been like 43 years since I’ve seen it.
